If you can't get to the game or would rather be on the beach I'm told there will be Sand Art on Abbey Sands at 4.00 p.m. celebrating Torquay United.

The squad is not complete yet and think there may be the odd new face, particularly as Bowman was very quickly shifted out. The result is not important as against league opposition with key players still to come in and many players getting to know each other we are going to come up short but these matches are very important to get up to speed.

I didn't get back in time to see this so will be very interested to hear the thoughts of those who went. Score was 1-3 to Newport.
Initial starting XI was Simpson,go, Butler, Richards, Hurst, Geohaghon and MacDonald in defence, Young, Richards in midfield and Briscoe in the hole behind Marsh and Yeoman up front.
At half time Lavercombe, Arlando Lewis, Jide Moake, Fairhurst and Murombedzi replaced Simpson, Hurst, JRichards, Marsh and Yeoman respectively.

Impressed with the gate, thought about 350-400 would be about right given last season and all that's happened since. By all accounts we didn't play well against a rather average team. Will be interested to hear the managers take on it.

Thought the 'new' 'keeper Homer Simpson was at fault for both goals and hopes that he wont be back on Wednesday. Yeoman was very poor with I think only touching theball on 1/2 dozen times Both our full backs in the first half were excellent. Roots man of jah people, average Weak in midfield (Young at fault for the second goal with a misplaced telegraph pass) Our goal came from a wicked deflection and must be given as an own goal Seemed to not create anything positive in front of goal Based on todays performance we will struggle and big time.

Thanks Phil, sounds like the match could be summed up with a D'oh!
I wasn't expecting much with lots of trialists but all those negatives Don't look good! Roll on Yeovil...

Please note Rob, just my opinion! I was not there to see it yesterday but I don't think we can read too much into PSFs. I am sure Cox will be learning valuable lessons about the squad, its gaps and deficiencies. That is what these games are all about. Hoping we will be better equipped and ready to improve performance come the real thing on August 8th.

First I have heard of that Stu? I hope the assessment is over pessimistic, was it a bad challenge?

Quote from the Messiah ~
"Ryan Bowman leaving will hopefully allow us to strengthen in certain positions, and it doesn't need a rocket scientist to tell where."
Bloody well hope so.

Hurst's injury is a blow. Does that open a door for loyalgull's mate Topliss?
I can't say that I am anywhere near as miserable as Chelston about Saturday. Mind you not many people can say that they are as miserable as Chelston full stop.
Interesting to see the three centre back formation. The first time we have played it, first game of the season for MacDonald - and for Geohaghon barring a stroll at Galmpton. You can hardly expect the finished article!
Building a competitive unit on a much reduced budget will not be an easy task, but there were enough positive signs that we can be a competitive unit in that shape.
Not so convinced by the 4-2-4 we played in the second half. I would imagine that would be our "plan B" when chasing the game. If so, Murombedzi can expect to rack up a lot more sub appearances than starts.
Lavercombe by far the most confident and assured of the three keepers seen so far. It will be interesting to see what other keeper we bring in. Veysey staying on probably reduces the chances of a senior keeper coming in. We may struggle to get better than Lavercombe - I wonder if we may be tempted to see how he handles it. His attitude seems good.
How about a cheap but experienced locally based keeper who would be happy to play second fiddle and work with Dan and Kenny as a team - and be able to step into the breach if Dan needs a spell out of the firing line? I don't suppose there are many of those around though. Maybe we will spin the wheel with another trialist on Wednesday.
