After the setback last week this will be a good test before the local Derbys against a team sat just below us in the table that have underperformed over the last few years but have the potential to be right up there and I wouldn't be surprised to see them in the play offs come May.
It could be a good time to play them as they have a lot of injuries to some key players and have lost their last three matches, including surrendering a two goal lead at home against Cheltenham last time out. They have three Torquay old boys that perhaps sums up their side at the moment with injury, quality and mediocre. Luke Gutteridge has a broken metatarsal and is out until the new year. Also on the injury list are defenders Artell and Johnson, striker Alex Nicholls who is the preferred strike partner to another old boy Akinfenwa.
No matter, what is said about him, Akinfenwa scores goals at this level and has 13 so far this term and will be their major threat. He has had a variety of partners including the third old boy Jake Robinson who has disappointed in his 18 month stint since he left us but I still wouldn't mind looking at him again in yellow. Northampton also have a suspension after midfielder Ishmel Demontagnac picked up his fifth yellow last time out so they will have at least one change. Like us, Northampton have had to rely on youth a bit more and Lewis Hornby seems to have taken his chance in midfield and will be interesting to compare him to say Thompson who is of a similar age.
Torquay welcome back Manse and Oastler from suspension although this is tempered with Saah going the other way to the sin bin which could see a few changes from the Bradford game. MacDonald will no doubt start (will need to watch out for Akinfenwa ) and I suspect Manse and Oastler will also slot straight back in the formation used since Manse was suspended. Rene and Bodin are doubts but hopefully should start although their absence could trigger some telling changes.
A home win will once again get things moving in the right direction and will be a welcome boost for the first visit of Exeter in the league since we were in the conference together and you know when.
