What a fascinating document Gullone; the sketch map of the ground alone is an absolute gem.
None of this impersonal and faceless Merseyside-wide policing in those days; this was the constabulary of the County Borough of Wallasey which was just part of the Wirral. But, hey, have Torquay United ever caused such a stir in those parts? And, as we were to discover to our cost, it was a day for giantkilling.
Excitement must have all but boiled over in that specially-constructed paddock. You trust those new-fangled walkie-talkies proved their worth and that PC12 Lyon on his bicycle was a fine escort for the motor coaches from South Devon. I'm sure he was.
