Cliff me this is grim! My end of season points prediction calculation now stands at 53 points, according to this calculation we are about to enter a run of 5 unbeaten games, 4 draws and a home win against Oxford. If you believe that you will probably also believe there is only beef in lasagne!

I really shouldn't be posting so soon after yet another hopeless and inadequate display, full of effort no doubt, but sometimes this is the only way to vent your frustration and disappointment. I must admit I feel rather angry that this situation has seemingly been allowed to fester for far to long the signs have been there for months and months and absolutely nothing of any significance has been done to stop the slide back towards the Conference. If this club were a lame horse you would put it out of its misery and put it in a pie or similar. From all that's come out of our club its now glaringly obvious we cannot compete at this level and if it doesn't happen this season I fear for the coming seasons. It will eventually happen again I'm convinced of that. You reap what you sow in this game and the squad has been to far down the list of priorities for much to long.
In reality Simon Baker and the board will now have to spend more trying to save us than if they had invested a little more in the squad when it was obvious the squad was struggling. That's if they have the will that is, sometimes I think they are fed up with the whole thing, trying to keep it ticking over and solvent.
Simon Baker and the board, for all there hard work and effort to improve the infrastructure, have taken their eye off the ball and trusted the coach and manager to squeeze as much as they could from a squad bereft of quality in many areas. Well it hasn't worked out as they had hoped it would and we are stuck in a "death dive", tumbling out of control and lurching from one crisis to another with nobody with any tactical sense or enough know how at the controls. Sure we will bring somebody in to try and stop the rot but an ominous pattern has been set and it will take more than a switched on stand in to reverse this fall . We need some quality in the side pronto and some fresh ideas on how to be more effective going forward. I can honestly say that our forward play has been the worst I have seen for many years and it is that tactic, intentional or not that has finally caught up with us and our pretty decent central defense and keeper are finally cracking under the weight of endless attacks and lack of goals at the other end. Indeed we struggled for goals last season and scrapped so many results and that was with two high quality players in the side and we still expected to be competetive with out them here?
Sure, its nice to be positive all the time and I do try and resist the urge to be negative but now is the time for honesty, a fresh set of eyes on the whole set up which includes every player at the club and maybe the man who comes in will tell a few home truths to all . I sincerely hope so.

4 successive defeats is certainly not what the doctor ordered and we needed the fillip of hearing the tannoy man announce that Argyle had lost at home to cheer us up a bit. There was the usual effort but Rochdale were, in truth, the better side. They gave us a bit of a chasing in the first half and might well have won more comfortably had they not retreated into defence for the last half hour.
Havig said that, the Gulls should have taken an early lead when Rene's marker slipped and gave our top scorer a 1 on 1 situation with the goalkeeper. We expected a goal but Rene's attempt to chip the goalie was not great and Lillis was able to get his fingers to the ball and tip it out for a corner. We had a couple of corners after that but fell behind when Dale's Jason Kennedy slipped an exquisite pass into the area for right back Rhys Bennett to shoot. Pokey did well to block the youngster's first effort but Bennett made sure from the rebound.
For the rest of the first half Torquay turned in the worst performance I have seen from them this season, and Lee Mansell almsot got Poke sent off with a bad back pass which the goalkeeper had to smother outside his area. Had the ball touched Pokey's hand he would certainly have been red-carded.
The second half began the same way and Poke had to make a fine save from Donnelly's shot before the Yellows began to regain a toe-hold. Aaron Downes going off with a bloody head didn't help matters. Macklin came on for Craig but might as well not have bothered for all the effect he had, and MacDonald replaced the battered Downes. With Rochdale having lost their first half zip the momentum was with Torquay but sadly they just weren't incisive enough to look dangerous. There was a heart-in-mouth moment when Jarvis was felled in the box and the ref moved his whistle towards his mouth only to change his mind and wave play on. Elliot Benyon came on for Bodin with 10 minutes to go and was, in that 10 minutes, more dangerous than his team mates had managed to be in the previous 80, forcing Lillis into a save on his goal line with a last second header, but the truth is that, for all the side's effort, they didn't really play well enough to deserve a draw.
Arguably, the match against Aldershot would be a better one to win but we need a good shake-up at the moment. There is a rumour going around that the board are about to offer the manager's job to a man renowned for being a tough bastard, and maybe that would be a good thing just now.

Listening to the commentary it seems the Rochdale keeper only had 1 save to make all game - the 1-on-1 from Rene Howe after 7 minutes. This is absolutely dire and we are so incapable of scoring. Even listening to the commentary it seemed so predictable we would not score and as soon as Rochdale scored you knew we were in big trouble again. Sadly I remember the same problem all too well in our relegation season out of the football league.
Again I cannot believe that Craig is not used in central midfield as a creative source. It makes so much sense to so many supporters and yet every game he's stuck on the right wing. A left footed central midfielder on the right wing?? Use proper wingers there with proper pace who can dash down the wing. I see Thompson who frightens the opposition with his pace was not even on the bench again and Benyon, who we know can finish, was only used for 10 minutes. It's so frustating and my only hope is that an interim manager will see a bit of sense and use Craig in the middle and proper wingers on the wings. Otherwise if we persist with Lings / Taylor's bizarre and frustrating ideas, we are only going one way. Next time around however we are unlikely to get back into the football league again. It would be almost impossible considering the other teams, far bigger than us, now in the BSP.

I'm sure there's folk that would disagree with you Pete, but I feel you've caught the mood well. The time to have surgery was in late December/early January not wait for the condition to get worse or possibly terminal. There's none so blind as those that can't hear.

Totally agree with chelston gull. it has been very apparent for some time that the current squad is lightweight and just not good enough. A complete clear out in the summer is needed.Hopefully the new man brought in can bring in a couple of loan signings and keep us in the league. The last home attendance of 1,700 indicates what the fans think of what is going on at Plainmoor this season. We have got things horribly wrong.I am reminded of the the line from The Waste Land by TS Eliot...." This is the way the world ends. Not with a bang but a whimper. Torquay board please take note. It is not too late to shake things up and avoid relegation. Love and Light. stig.

i did a near 600 mile round journey yesterday,to see us battle for our life and league safety,i was disappointed yet again. It was woeful, and we look like relegation candidates for sure.Jarvis and particularly leadbitter were the only ones to come out of the game with any real credit imho, the rest forget it.All the rose tinters take note,if we dont do something drastically in the next few games we are done for.We played howe up front on his lonesome yet again and bought benyon on with 10 minutes to go,what was that all about?Taylor just spent the 90 minutes looking at his watch,we WILL plummet into the conference if this isnt sorted pronto.Nice training pitch, nice astro pitch non league, some of us took lots of critism for our earlier season concerns regarding this squad, the proof is in the pudding as they say
