What a good post Dave.
There have been several occasions this season when I have been almost ashamed of the actions of fellow fans, such as the use of explicit and abusive language in the family stand with many young children close by (not to mention a completely useless steward), I would not use some of the words in adult company, and then there was a vitriolic attack on Ian Morris in the Plymouth home game (I personally think we have missed his steadiness, but this "fan" clearly wouldn't agree. Strangely I haven't seen this particularly smug chap at Plainmoor since, maybe the pies weren't to his liking).
On both these occasions I spoke out against what I felt was unacceptable behaviour. As far as I am concerned, you pay your money, and you can abide by the rules of common decency. No one deserves the abuse our players sometimes receive for underperforming. I'm suprised that Manse, who wears his heart on his sleeve hasn't cracked more often.
Anyway, to the game. Good side Bradford. Mobile. Played to their strengths and exposed our weaknesses. We went out with a wimper. Cruise has been a positive since he deposed Nico, but for Gillingham next up I would suggest Oastler has lost his form and should be dropped as well. Not that I think Leadbitter offers much more, but he deserves the chance at least.
Chappell for poor old Billy B, persist with Jarvis,he has "quality" despite the lack of pace. Yeoman for Benyon perhaps? Anything to shake things up.

i agree vitriolic verbal attacks on players are wrong, but mansell is a professional and our club captain, and should be able to rise above, two wrongs dont make a right as they say.Regarding fans and swearing they should be ejected for it,but very rarely are

Yes, as Club Captain he has to take a look at himself and his behaviour.

mind you mansell is feeling the pressure a bit at present,he does usually give it all as a player and as it is i bet he is hurting inside for sure

Yes, he should probably think a little longer before answering back. However, some of the abuse the players get when leaving the pitch is an absolute disgrace. If someone said half of what they get shouted at them to me outside the ground, they would get battered. They've got bloody thick skins to tolerate it as well as they do without saying anything back (usually), and its about time the stewards took a more proactive approach (fat chance of that though) in the vicinity of the tunnel. If these @#ckwits (that no doubt think they're clever being out of reach) feel that strongly about using language like that to people, try it to their faces sometime.

familystander I'd agree with familystander that I'd far rather see the person who instigates the abuse being dealt with rather than blame his target for responding. Some of these loudmouths only behave in the atrocious way they do because they believe that players will stand there silently and take it, and of course they are safely protected behind the stewards as they scream their obscenities at the players. This in turn can lead to conflict between supporters, as I witnessed recently, when a fan speaks up in defence of an abused player who had himself kept schtum. Far better that the stewards clear a path to give Mansell easy access to stand toe to toe with his abuser (although we shouldn't jump to conclusions as Budleigh makes no mention that Mansell was reacting to something firstly shouted at him) as I think this would result in virtually eradicating the swearing and obscenities directed at our own players as they leave the pitch. Then again, it could result in the only player anyone dares swear at is poor little Danny Stevens

But Mansell isn't usually the one getting the criticism as he's quite a popular figure at the club. And heis the captain and leader of the team, and thus surely should realise that he's going to be the focal point of some of the criticism if the team isn't playing well
As I said earlier in the thread, this isn't the first time it has happened - some of the things I've read in a couple of different places suggests to me that he doesn't like being criticised by fans and is struggling to cope with it. As a professional footballer surely you should know you are going to get criticised if you're not playing well, so I don't have an awful lot of sympathy, especially considering that from watching him play this year he hasn't played as well since he had the new contract (or has at best been erratic)
I suppose that's the problem with League Two-level players, though, and perhaps explains the variations in performance in clubs - one good season and they think they're brilliant and, in some cases, above criticism, and it takes a demotion to set their heads straight. Problem is in this case, I'm not sure where this demotion is going to come from - it won't happen until a strong manager takes the armband off him. He might not like that but I think it's for the greater good, for him and for the team
