We needed that one and a win by two clear goals , a rare occurrence indeed but demonstrates that if you take your chances you win games and that is what we have been missing. Macullum seems like he has the quality we have been crying out for and has given us a more balanced front line. Still in the mire mind you and the mad scramble to get away from the foot of the table has already begun with BR and Accy scrambling vital points yet Northampton losing yet again. Boothroyd must now be in imminent danger of losing his job the pressure there must be way above what Knilly has experienced.. Odd how things can just change around so swiftly.

Odd how things can just change around so swiftly. You could say that about Ling two years ago! I think the difference between winning and losing is small and improvement can be measured by degrees and everything clicking can take time. Having said that, McCallum seems to be the final piece of the jigsaw for us and we have taken a good performance from last week and translated that into three points today and think we will now slowly better our league position.

.....and for those of you who have written off Nico he assisted in both goals. To be fair Pete, they were both corners... Listening to the commentary it sounded a good battling performance with Downes and O'Connor seemingly outstanding in the middle.

The most important signing of last summer Aron Downes inspires a decent and winning performance.
Just imagine what we would be facing he had followed Saah out of the door. He has his moments admittedly as all defenders do but he is without doubt genuine quality. Lets hope he can drag a few others along for the ride which will see us climb out of crap.

Five simple thoughts from yesterday:
1. Warts and all I'd have Downes in the team. The purist in me says Pearce and O'Connor but it's not possible to be a purist all the time. Hard on Pearce yesterday but not an excuse for the wailing and gnashing of teeth. The team changes never appeared as outrageous as was suggested elsewhere.
2. A musing on how fate ventures into football. I wasn't entirely adverse to Callum Ball but a combination of circumstances now means we have Paul McCallum. He's different but also better.
3. There seems, in some quarters, to be antipathy and opposition to having any loan players at the club at all. They didn't look a bad bunch at all yesterday. It'll be interesting to see where they'll be in a season or two compared to some of our own contracted players.
4. Time, just like fate, imposes itself on football. Our third goal was exquisitely timed yesterday of course. The Tempest, as unwelcome as it was, came at the time of maximum effort for Bury. A nightmare for defenders but hardly conducive for controlled football. And, make no mistake, another two or three minutes of the deluge and we'd have been under water. I suspect the day was saved by the storm taking a line slightly away from Bury. Another few miles and the lightening would have been a severe risk.
5. A good day for appreciating Gigg Lane: autumnal skies; a seasonal line of trees swaying at the Cemetery End and we kept dry (no "singing in the rain" heroics I'm afraid). A friendly place to visit too. It just amazes me how fools and malcontents have the temerity to moan about and abuse everywhere they visit. The service in the Art Picture House was also mightily impressive. Jon would have had but a short wait if he'd been partaking of the Mega Breakfast with locally-sourced black pudding.

Well, I must admit I was wrong about the results over the last two weekends. It seems that Knill has finally put all the pieces of the jigsaw together and ground out some results. Wait a minute though, what's the common denominator in the last two games? Maybe it was taking a player out of the jigsaw that has proved an upturn in our fortunes! Now who could that be...

TUFC's league record in games that I have suffered this season (either in person or via Radio Devon):
P13 W1 D5 L7 F10 A22 Pts 8
TUFC's league record in games of which I have been blissfully unaware due to a weekend away:
P2 W2 D0 L0 F7 A3 Pts 6
For the good of the club, I am prepared to listen to sponsorship offers. For a fee of £500, I am prepared to have a weekend away and leave the mighty TUFC in peace to storm to another victory.

Then we might be in the play offs by then
