Great win from the lads. As good a goal as you will see from skipper Luke Young. Any time he gets the ball within striking range you fancy him to score. As for Louis Briscoe, a simply superb performance. Looked the complete striker, strong, fast and very hard to knock off the ball A just reward with a lovely strike from about 20 yards.

In some competitions, it comes down to results between the teams (sometimes before goal difference, in some places). If they were to both be 1-1 draws, then I guess a play-off if it was deciding say, an automatic place.

A Luke Young stunner sealed the points for the Gulls, something he is making a habit of doing! Possibly the best Torquay goal I have ever seen? Well it is certainly up there with the best. Torquay showed great character today to come back strongly in the second half and claim 3 points after trailing at half-time. I was concerned our season was on the slide but this was a very important and deserved win. Crowd 2,350, 205 from Wrexham, sponsors MOTM Luke Young, twitter MOTM Briscoe.
Torquay started brightly today but they did not make the best of their chances. The best chance fell to Ajala after a Young shot found Ajala clear only a few yards out. Ajala screwed his shot wide. The opening 15 minutes was a decent spectacle and pretty end to end stuff. Wrexham had a strong header from a corner that crashed off the post. The game then went through a bit of a lull with neither side creating much. Then a calamity from Martin Rice on 29 minutes. It should have been a routine drop kick from Rice who had a Wrexham player close on him. However Rice's kick cannoned off the Wrexham player and back off Rice and the ball fell loose inn the penalty area. It was a mad rush who would get to the ball first and the Wrexham player slotted the ball into the net. There were appeals all around as many referees would blow up but the goal was given. Speaking to others at half-time, they believe the Wrexham player did not impede and it was Rice's fault. Right at the end of the first half Briscoe laid a beautiful through ball to put Bowman through, however Bowman shot weakly at their keeper. A big chance missed.
Briscoe and Ajala swapped in the second half with Briscoe joining Bowman up front and Ajala going on the wing. Briscoe throughout the game had a good game using his strength, good feet on the ball and eye for a pass. Before Torquay equalised on 62 minutes, they were building a good momentum and troubling Wrexham with some decent moves. But the question was, did we have anyone to finish off our good approach play? Briscoe came to our rescue by controlling and thumping an unstoppable low shot from inside the penalty area set up by Ajala. Later Torquay were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area at a difficult angle. There seemed little hope of scoring from there. Luke Young curled a beauty over the wall that crashed off the post. Then on 84 minutes Young went one better. About 30 yards out Young chested the ball across the field and then unleashed a volley that smashed off the inside of the post and went in. It was an unbelievable effort from a special player and as you can guess the players and fans went mad. It was one of those moments that as a fan you can boast that I was there to see this amazing goal. Torquay deserved the lead as they got stronger as the second half went on. Wreexham, who I thought were a solid, workmanlike team, had no answer.
This was a significant win and Torquay showed great character to come back and beat a resolute Wrexham team. After our last two blips our season is back on track. I thought Cameron and Briscoe were our main threat going forward today and we missed O'Archie today. But Briscoe came to our rescue and showed that he can finish. Wakefield had a steady game in midfield replacing the suspended Richards and Pearce calmly did a steady job in place of the suspended Downes. Luckily we have a gem in Luke Young, a bit like when we had Mark Loram, who can be our match winner and he again came up with trumps. What a goal!

In the end it was a game of two halves with a superb strike from Young worthy of winning any match but some sloppy play saw us down at half time when perhaps we could have been up or at least on parity with it looking like one of those days from last season.
We almost started with a bang. A swift counter-attack saw Ajala make a great surging run on the right but wasn't able to put the chance away from a narrowish angle. After that, there wasn't too much difference in the sides with Wrexham's best opportunities coming directly from corner kicks - a good header from Manny Smith hit the post and someone else ?hit a volley just over when perhaps should have done better!
However, the half took a turn for the worse when an act of stupidity came from Rice. With Moult standing in front of him and not backing down, he decided to kick the ball any way as opposed to moving round him and after hitting him, Moult was able to gather the loose ball and slot home the softest goal he will ever score! I have seen Benyon get a yellow in a similar instance but really poor from Rice and suspect that will be the last time he ever tries that!
Despite this, we should have equalised in the closing moments of the half. Winning possession just in their half Briscoe was able to draw the remaining defence towards him and squared the ball for Bowman who really should have buried the ball from well inside the area with only the keeper to beat but his shot was too weak and near the keeper enabling him to make a good save!
The second half started with shenanigans as Bowman tried to block their keeper from taking his goal kick, making a point no doubt but following their keeper round which Moult certainly didn't do! However, since the goal Wrexham were looking to protect their lead, slowing things down but in the process lost the initiative with a sharp momentum shift taking place as we started to crank up the pressure with Ajala just hitting a shot wide after the ball being well worked to him in the area.
Something Hargreaves did do was swap Briscoe on the wing with Ajala in the forward supporting role with both looking more comfortable in their new positions with Briscoe in particular full or tricks but with the brawn to hold his own. Anyway the goal when it came was made by these two. The ball was crossed from the right by either or a combination of Young and/or Tonge to Ajala about 15 yards out, but not facing the goal but a nice lay off to Briscoe just outside the area saw him shoot hard and low into the bottom left corner of the net.
Wrexham did then try to pick things up but the Torquay players now had the greater belief with the game opening up and more space being found at the back. Bowman was put through and pushed over just a fraction outside the area. From this free kick Chappell very nearly scored with the ball ricocheting back off the near post with their keeper well beaten. In the process, he smacked his knee against the post requiring prolonged treatment and ending any goal kicking as well as restricting his mobility. Not that it mattered when Young scored his stunning goal, which will be the best this season. A chest down and then a volley that smashed into the far post and thankfully this time bounced in.
For the last ten minutes, we held on pretty comfortably with Bowman having a couple of penalty shouts but after the shenanigans earlier over their goal and then blocking their keeper were unlikely to be given when on another day there would have been an outside chance! Still, a morale boosting win as least as important as that one st Lincoln!!!

Looks like Moult has a bit of history! - linkHe was being quite canny in appearing to have his back to Ricey, ignoring him, whilst moving parallel to the box. Ricey looked to take two steps diagonally before attempting to kick and strangely enough Moult still stayed in front of him. Good perspective from high up in the bench...

Are we now saying that the Welsh git cheated and that Ricey was hoodwinked and the poor ref was conned? I thought the ref was poor from start to finish and all stations in between. How did he (and dopey dick the lino) miss THAT push on Bowman in the area for a penalty? Still a nice pint of Devon Dumpling made it a great day!

Are we now saying that the Welsh git cheated and that Ricey was hoodwinked and the poor ref was conned? Ricey should never really have attempted to kick that close to Moult. However, when people are saying Moult wasnt moving, thats clearly wrong as can be seen in the highlights. Wrexham highlights here link
