Rob
Sounds like a very level headed and eminently sensible assessment of things by Rob. If the final league table doesn't lie, then both Aldershot and Tranmere were among the very best in the National League, while we could be counted among the very worst. Tranmere seem to have taken some impressive steps to further strengthen over the Summer, and Rob gives examples of the type of quality that Aldershot have also brought in. For our part, most reckon we've made modest improvements, given a slight increase in the playing budget. Therefore, after 3 hours play against what might well be the cream of what the National League has to offer, we're a bit unfortunate not to have come out level, trading these big two goal for goal.....and with many saying if it hadn't been for some dubious refereeing we'd be looking back on these trickiest of opening fixtures proudly undefeated.
With the season half a week old, it does seem a little early to justify doom, gloom and impending disaster. Unless some had a pre-written script and they're now working hard to make our opening performances sound appropriate to it, even though they're not an ideal fit.
Plenty of time to prove we've got what's needed to show a marked improvement on last season, as long as we don't demand that all the proof has to be put on the table before the end of August. It's a marathon not a sprint .
There are plenty of positives from that showing last night and the Manager called it right that those two decisions swung it. Aldershot looked the better side, because imo they are the better side and will finish above us. I expect the same of Tranmere as well. Might not be the case, but I would expect so.
