It was certainly an entertaining match with plenty of goalmouth action yellow cards and drama with the crowd of over 1800 getting behind the team with the fight against relegation still on. Initially, we tried to pass the ball a bit more than Woking who after 19 games without a win looked short of confidence. Our first real attack saw a goal with a deep and looping young corner being bizarrely clearly hand-balled by their captain to bring it down and probably was the easiest penalty decision the ref will have this season.
Both sides had a clear chance to score for the remainder of the half. After a lucky rebound Woking had a one-on-one with Dorel who stood strong as he deflected the ball away. Later on after the referee played advantage, Williams was only able to head a spot-on cross over the bar with the goal at his mercy.
In the second half, despite being under pressure we actually came close to scoring four times before Woking equalised. Young had a great strike running parallel to the edge of the area and his shotjust inside the left-hand post was very well parried away by their keeper which luckily for him was at a relatively nice height. Shortly after McGinty headed down into the near corner of the goal which again their young athletic keeper got down well to make a great save. Healey also had a similar one on one chance to that Which Dorel saved in the first half and again the position on the pitch, shot and outcome was virtually the same. Finally Reid in his first forey on the pitch crossed into the 6 yard box and the ball hit the defender on his shin at the near post and only just deflected over the top right hand corner of the goal which would’ve left their keeper with no chance.
Unfortunately, Football has a nasty habit of punishing you when you don’t take your chances and we conceded a very soft goal which was From a long ball and their attacker was able to get in between our defender and goalkeeper to slot the ball home into the empty net. However we were able to take the lead again very shortly after with Evans picking the ball up and tracking a similar route to Young parallel to the edge of the area to create the space to fire an absolute belter into the top hand left corner of the net to the rapture of most at Plainmoor .
It was not easy going though and we had to defend a frenetic goalmouth scramble where it seemed Impossible for the ball to keep out but somehow it did. Also the ball was cleared off the line on at least one maybe two occasions from corners as Woking tried to restore parity. Romaine had a chance to put the game beyond doubt as he raced clear as we went into injury time but his legs were gone and got no power or finesse behind his shot. No matter, we held on and live to fight on this season...

Well that was not one for the faint hearted! A win that keeps our hopes only slightly alive but nevertheless it was great to witness the win today. The pitch looked remarkably good but was heavy to play on and the ball at times was unpredictable how it would run or bounce. It turned out to be a right old battle in a game that had everything - good and bad. I was very impressed with our fighting spirit today as we gave everything. Crowd 1,837 with less than a hundred from Woking, sponsors MOTM going Lemonheigh-Evans for his wonder strike winning goal. My personal stand out performer today was Romain for his amazing work rate, chasing lost causes and often winning them, winning headers etc. It's just a shame Romain did not cap his fine performance by failing to convert his 1-on-1 in added time, sadly his shot went tamely along the ground into the keepers arms.
Torquay played well at times in the first half and got a vital breakthrough after 15 minutes. Torquay varied their corners today and looked dangerous. But they got a helping hand literally when from a corner a Woking player raised his hand and palmed the ball out the way. Williams dispatched the penalty placing the ball down the middle after the keeper had dived to his right. Woking should have made it 1-1 after Balatoni's lack of pace meant his clearance hit a nearby Woking player on the right and put Woking clear. Luckily Dorel spread himself and made a fine point blank save to save Balatoni's blushes.
The second half had loads of thrills as there was many chances at both ends. Torquay had a decent 5 minute spell when they create some clear chances. A shot from Young was palmed away by their young Chelsea loanee keeper Baxter and then Baxter saved well low down from a McGinty header from a corner. Reid replaced Williams who was not very effective today missing a clear header in the first half. Sadly Torquay still have the habit of defenders gifting the opposition goals. Balatoni got caught in two minds dealing with a through ball when he seem to wait for Dorel to collect. A Woking player nipped in and equalised. Was this the end of our season? Lemonheigh-Evans was already having a cracking match being effective with the ball. On 68 minutes he made room for himself outside the box and unleashed a powerful shot that hit the top corner of the net. There was still plenty of drama left. Gowling I believe made a hash of back pass that resulted on an almighty goalmouth scramble and Dorel again came to the rescue. Torquay cleared the ball off their line twice in quick succession as Woking gave their all. The game could have swung either way and the home crowd did their bit getting behind the team in a tense encounter. Torquay saw out 3 minutes of added time to get the vital 3 points.
It was a close, tense affair but Torquay showed plenty of fight today and at least it showed me they will give their all for the remaining 6 matches. We are still error prone at the back so I cannot see us realistically surviving but at least we are giving it a go.

Well that was not one for the faint hearted! Must have been one of the worst performances seen in the past few years.
