Owers has also said: "everything will be done and dusted by Monday tea-time", by which he presumably means his wish list for players to be offered contracts.
I seriously doubt whether any of the current squad will want to commit to another season of failure, but I can't wait to see what will be announced on Monday tea-time.

Just wandered up to Homers Heath Buckland's ground this morning and couldn't help thinking where both clubs will be in ten or so years time.
A short ten minute walk for me to go and watch live football for a £6 entrance fee at a level of quality that in all honesty is little different from what I have witnessed at Plainmoor this season.
The shambles that TUFC now is both on and off the pitch will not be changeing anytime soon if at all and I can see a point where both clubs pass each other in opposite directions.
Time to re-access for many supporters I believe.

I was at the match the match last night and trust me the home supporters during the match made their feelings loud and clear during the match about the players. Lots of booing and angry shouting out at them. The only real applause at the end was reserved for the Guiseley players who fully deserved it. They played as a team and in the right spirit of the game. No time wasting, gamesmanship, feigning injury, dirty tackles. They played the game fairly and broke really well with pace. Our lumbering defenders had no answer to their slickness. It was just like watching Nicholson's last game against Borehamwood all over again. Our defenders were made to look like fools. Even their young keeper played with a smile on his face and exchanged some friendly banter with us behind the goal. He made some cracking saves and we gave him deserved applause at the end of the first half. What a refreshing change Guiseley were and I expect them to be challenging for promotion next season.
We on the other hand are just a bunch of individuals - no real team spirit, no leadership. When we were losing we just feebly fell apart and the manager had no answer either. Only Healey came out with any credit due to his finishing and that's not much consolation as we will never see him again. Even reliables Dorel and Romain had off nights.
Regarding the McGinty incident. My understanding is when Torquay went 4-2 down there was plenty of abuse from home fans shouted at the defenders, and quite rightly. McGinty went over to the Pop side and gave some verbal back. For the next few minutes every time McGinty touched the ball the Pop siders booed him. This clearly rattled McGinty and at one stage when he had the ball he appeared to just whack the ball out of touch deliberately in temper. The atmosphere around the ground really did get toxic and those not present suggesting that the players were given an easy ride are wide of the mark.
We could not really believe what we were seeing last night. My son at the end of the first half said it was like a comedy show, it was actually quite funny to watch! For most of the first half against 10 men we were well on top and at 1-1 I thought we would win comfortably. Yet their keeper kept them in it and 10 men Guiseley still created chances from smart moves and led 2-1 at half-tme.
Surely they would tire in the second half and we would still win? However a masterstroke by Owers at half-time making a double substitution and going 4 at the back. We were clueless in the second half, slow and having no ideas. Lots of sideway passing making no progress, passes going astray etc. Guiseley just then broke away and picked us off.
That was as bad as any of those embarrassing Hargreaves or Nicholson's performances of recent years. We have made absolutely no progress under Owers and last night proved that. At the finish the general opinion was that we need to get rid of the lot - the players and the manager! I for one don't want to see any of those players in a Torquay shirt again. As for the manager, I would love to get rid of him but realistically I don't expect him to go.

Don't agree it was like the Boreham Wood game that got Nico the sack. It was far worse.
Boreham Wood are an exceptionally quick and skilful team as their league position shows. They cut us to pieces.
Guisley were knackered after playing four games in a week. They are bottom of the league. They played almost the whole game with ten men.
Guiseley did not have to cut us to pieces. We just fell to pieces with no prompting.
How many times have we watched teams waltz through us as Owers refuses to deploy a holding midfielder?
If I have an issue with Owers' tactical nous, it is nothing compared to his total lack of ability to motivate.
Just listening to him on the radio makes you want to slit your wrists.
Downbeat, demotivated, demoralised. Imagine having to work for him! He has the same effect on the players as he has on me and you can see it clear as a bell.
Managers in any field have to lift, encourage and motivate people who work for them. Slag your staff off and tell them they are rubbish and it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
Is there a single player who has improved under Owers? Young has tried his best, but ridiculously denied any effective support in midfield muscle. Poor Keating looked like a player bubbling with energy and enthusiasm who needed a few rough edges polishing off. He now looks like he has had all his enthusiasm beaten out of him.
Will Owers be better if he can clear the decks and bring in his own men? I very much doubt it.
I do worry about season ticket sales and attendances next season.
Our fans have been exceptionally loyal through years of rubbish, but a lot are near the end of their tether.
We are crying out for a leader to rally the troops and whip up enthusiasm for an exciting promotion campaign. The Chairman is not going to do it. Geoff Harrop is not going to do it. We need a a manager who can do it. That man is not Gary Owers.

I just can't watch football at this level, as the refereeing is so poor. I cannot see how we got the penalty or why their defender got sent off. Straight forward push/nudge and sent off as Romain was clear on goal (last man and all that). Haven't seen the highlights but thought their 'keeper should have been sent off a bit later for clattering over one of our players. |

Thought something similar (Their 'keeper and the big sub (35) played well) but it was the set up by Owers which pressed the self destruct button. Fair play to Guiseley who knew we were crap and just kept their head. My biggest worry is that with Owers at the helm, supporter numbers will dwindle and dwindle. Get rid of now. |

When they went straight up from the missed pen to score, halfway towards our goal the linesman started waving his flag, like mad, I assume for the ball going out of play. My impression was that the linesman was flagging as the Guiseley player charging down the wing with the ball was being held back by a defender, but he shook him off and was then fouled inside the box but Guiseley scored anyway before the ref had time to award a penalty. |

There is no way that Dorel should be blamed for the second goal. McGinty and Balatoni just stood there and expected him to come rushing out to claim the ball from ten yards away, instead of clearing it themselves, even at the expense of a corner. Torquay's attacking play looked quite good most of the time, although many of the crosses from wide were poor (Davis excepted), but the front players were badly let down by some appalling defending. I have to say that I was very impressed by Lemonheigh-Evans, who I reckon has a big future ahead of him.
At this level, a formation of 3-5-2 will never work unless the back three understand it and the wing backs are equally switched on. On Tuesday, the back three were far too static and Barnes and Davis were frequently caught far upfield when an attack broke down. The only time I have ever seen it work was in 1997/98 under Kevin Hodges, because Andy Gurney and Paul Gibbs understood their roles to perfection.
As for the retained list, it will be very interesting to see what team is selected against Ebbsfleet. I would imagine that all of Tuesday's back three will be on their way out, and they have probably already got wind of that. Owers only has Efete as an alternative, so goodness knows how many goals will be conceded against a team which is vying for a top three position.
For me, only Dorel, Davis, Young and Williams should be on that list. I have not included Romain, who will surely not want to lower himself to NLS level.

What a horror show for the all four goals, especially the second - "after you Claude". We could so with some like their number 35 up front next season. |
