The toxic atmosphere at and before the final whistle was totally justified and it will continue to deteriorate. The clueless, hapless and forlorn figure on the sidelines, Gary Owers simply has no answer to the continuing problems. In all honesty I expected little again today even though we played with a back four for the first time. The extra man, Jason Banton made little or no difference to our goal threat with Williams again trying to play the role of target man and once again failing miserably.. Jamie Reid for some unknown reason gets the nod over Ruauri Keating. Despite plenty of huff and puff from the local man I completely fail to see what he brings to the table and believe it or not he was on the pitch for the full ninety plus minutes. Work that one out if you will. Make no mistake this is a league devoid of quality and noticeably a huge step down from the National league above. Despite having a core of some quality the peripheral players outside of that small group are pretty poor. Its a waste of time trying to explain the match somebody will do that for sure for what its worth but in summary not a single threatening shot on goal and two sloppy goals conceded from set pieces. Bloody awful to watch from start to finish with only one or two positives once again. Davis, Hall, Keating and Cameron for me were the only players to look like they were above this dire standard. Dickson for all his pedigree looks like a spent force. Wright what the hell has happened to this guy since he was here last - totally off the pace and looked unfit and uninterested and hes being paid a decent wage no doubt. Bloody shameful for a professional footballer. How long have we been short of a decent target man? No doubt the "chosen one and fountain of all football knowledge" on BTPR will be defending "his" manager the one he wholeheartedly endorsed and continues to defend whilst continuing to blame Kevin Nicholson for all our ills. This is far worse than when Nicholson was in charge.
Fortunately I don't have a season ticket that would make me feel obliged to attend and watch the most dismal and boring games I can remember in recent history. - thank god.....

I promised Jon a nice positive post so after racking my brain I’ve managed to look on the bright side of today. The weather was great, and the pitch looks good. We did not pick up any new injuries and no red cards so no further depletion to our squad. Oh, Keating came on and hit the post and almost scrambled in another effort which just went wide.
But basically that was one of the worst games of football that I have ever seen Torquay play with very little goal threat and three goals in six games is relegation form not a team looking to get promoted! Sod the 10 games, the team is going backwards and in normal circumstances the manager would find himself in an unsustainable position.
Too depressed to give a match report but just a few points to make. Our defending was poor today. For the first goal, we had a chance to clear the ball but it was scuffed for a corner and then from that corner it should’ve been headed away but this was missed and hit the next defender to bounce back into the corner of the goal leaving Bass no chance. The second goal was also from a corner and the free header was so so easy to direct the ball into the net. Our passing was poor generally. Williams is a shadow of his former self and for the second home game contributed very little. One of the few good moves in the first half saw Banton pull out of a challenge from their number 5 in a promising position on the side-of the area and summed up the lack of energy and intensity in the first 45 minutes. Marginally better in the second half but very little for the crowd to get behind apart from the “We want Owers out!” chant......

Painful, humiliating, disjointed - a horrible performance from start to finish. There were serious chants of "we want Owers out" in the second half after we conceded the second goal. I sat in the Bristow Bench behind Owers in the second half. He says very little and at the final whistle with head down he made a sharpish exit to the changing rooms. It was a dreadful performance, Harrop was nowhere to be seen, and I just wish Owers would do the honorable thing and resign. This season is going nowhere under him and don't pretend things will get better. Owers could not turn things around last season and he won't this season either. His record as a manager over the years is average at best and he is clearly not the man to take our club forward. If anything, I felt pity for him today as whatever he tries seem to fail. Today we went four at the back and we were worse. Crowd today 1,571 with 52 away fans, sponsors MOTM Davis who has been one of our best players this season.
Our play was totally disjointed with players quick to argue and blame other team mates. It was quite an eye opener sat in the Bristow Bench in the front row observing the total shambles as pass after pass went astray. Keating provided the only bright spark of the game running on to a through ball on our right and hitting the far post with a decent effort. That was it excitement wise, there was no cohesion, little movement off the ball. Apart from the Keating's effort we never looked like scoring.
What is just as worrying is that with two decent defenders injured for some time, we were error prone in defence. Wynter and Essuman look weak links and we conceded 2 soft goals from corners. Their first goal was simply comical defending with the near post defender missing the ball and I believe the ball went straight in from the corner. Their second goal was a free header from a corner. The longer the game went on the more ragged we got with players frequently not taking responsibility with their poor decision making and instead were blaming others. I have time for Cameron at the back and Hall in midfield as they are both vocal and show leadership qualities. Williams, who was substituted in the second half, is no captain and should be relieved of his duties. None of our attackers anticipate and get into scoring positions. So many of our crosses floated over with no-one there.
There is no team spirit there, we are so slow and lumbering in our build ups. Owers has to take responsibility and in my opinion do the honourable thing and resign before this season is another disaster. We have had nearly a season of Owers in charge now and I see no sign of him improving our club. I have nothing personally against him and he played the game at a high level and is a football man. But he is clearly no leader or motivator and need to move on for everyones benefit, including his!

No doubt the "chosen one and fountain of all football knowledge" on BTPR will be defending "his" manager the one he wholeheartedly endorsed and continues to defend whilst continuing to blame Kevin Nicholson for all our ills. This is far worse than when Nicholson was in charge. What he thinks is irrelevant. He no more goes to matches than I do, so he can't spout any opinion worthy of consideration or debate. Of more concern is a match report from someone who does attend, which paints such a dire picture. 6 games in and already people are talking of a season of struggle. That doesn't bode well or inspire any confidence, but I don't get the feeling there is any immediate solution to the problem(s) out there. What was the attendance today? Total bollocks which isn't surprising from that side of the pond. Pete F hasn't read what he thinks the person he refers to may have said so he knows bugger all just a biased character assassination for no good reason; you compound it by showing total ignorance of the true position. The person you refer to watches about 10 live football games a week (yes it is possible to see more than one game in a day). Torquay United wise he has supported the team since he was 8 but as he lives in London and is no longer able to drive finds it difficult to get to Plainmoor. However he does go to any away games within striking distance of the capital and given the league we are in now that is a lot of them - for somebody to be slagging off a loyal Torquay supporter when they have chosen to live in a foreign country just so they have an excuse not to attend is just totally ridiculous. Mind you I can remember you regularly posting on the site he runs as the admin and how sycophantic you were towards merse. However your posts were often disagreed with by a few and after one really ridiculous rant you had you deleted it (although many had already seen it) and then deleted your account. So you are bright enough to register on that site if you wish to do so and if you want to slag him off I would suggest you do just that and tell him - not quite face to face but as near as you are going to get from that swamp on the other side of a big ocean.

Steve what you say may be true but it doesn't change the fact that Alan is the consummate, complete prick! he's beyond arrogant and so self righteous that most people naturally hate the bloke! He makes it easy for you too want to hate him, he's his own worse enemy!

Some people who were in attendance at today's match have said that the players apparently don't want to play for the manager.
That's a very weird situation, given that he signed all but three or four of them. Were they unaware of his record and personality before they put pen to paper?

Can't really add much to what Pete and Swanny have written.
For me it was game which must rank as one of the worst in our history and I'm sure with Gary 'I haven't got a clue' Owers in charge there's worse to come.
Hampton like Bath and to a certain extent East Thurrock played the ball well and had an idea of how to pass the ball, good tactics etc.and if they could shoot better we would be winless.
Hampton had a barndoor of a CF which surely proves that's the sort of player required.
We still haven't got a clue what to do, full stop.
