Jumped the gun as it's been so quiet on here of late here's a few words to ponder, agree with or criticise.
Its sad to say it but can anyone honestly see us getting any points at all over the Xmas/New Year period?
Three very difficult games ahead of the holiday and on one of the worst loseing runs in recent history.
After last seasons club record of consecutive victories we now face the possibility of breaking the most unwanted record of all.
How things can flip and turn on their head in just a few short weeks.
GJ has a mammoth task of lifting a group of players who have lost belief in themselves and the system after the recent desperate additions have failed miserably to halt the slide. Its no wonder that the dreadful loss of form of Robbie Cundy has coincided with those loses particualrly in midfield. Kyle Cameron who always looked so capable now looks to be following suite. Ben Wynter will be the next to suffer. Arguably our most consistent player this season is now showing signs of the pressure and lack of quality in front of him. I Personally dont blame the back line for all our defensive failings.
Tactically we have stayed the same but without the high energy young midfield that can get up and down the pitch for fun and produce the goods going forward it was inevitable that something was going to give.
Injuries to key and quality players, the ones that can genuinely influence games are undoubtedly the true cause of this dreadful decline don't let anyone else tell you any different that is a fact.
Continuity has been completely lost withe so many quality players ruled out week after week.
Liam Davis, Armani Little, Asa Hall, Connor Evans, Frankie Vincent to name but a few who would have made a difference if "match" fit.
Matt Buse, lets face it is a squad player and would only have featured occasionally if the first choice midfield had stayed fit
A hard worker and has shown signs of promise but sadly promise isn't enough in these circumstances.
The various players who have come in have not been able to make a mark or influence games as we all would have hoped and we now face a period without our top scorer Jamie Reid.
One positive Is the return of Connor Evans who did everything in his power to influence the game on Saturday In very difficult and trying conditions. At 0-3 I would have taken him off to protect him the game was dead and buried.
The loanees? As of yet not up to speed I'm afraid and, other than James far to inexperienced to cope or really influence things in these dire circumstances. James not match fit but has some qualities that would shine in different circumstances and undoubtedly needs young high energy players around him to compensate for his lack of mobility.
Medford Smith, Namanee, Bansal McNulty, are just not what we need at this time and have failed to make any impact. I'm a Ben Whitfield fan but again his defensive qualities are wanting in many respects and flatters to deceive on occasion, work rate is unquestionable though.
That midfield on Saturday was so lightweight when compared with the experienced "struggling" Chesterfield bruisers who came to us and did a job on us with hard work and solidity.
Would like to think Reid, Andrews and Evans were fit and available but if there's an doubt it would be pointless to throw them in and cause greater damage. If fit Ryan Dickson should be recalled even if its for a few games to help steady the ship. Not quite sure whats going on there but maybe GJ is trying to create some wages "wriggle" room along with one or two others.
Its looking bleak but hey ho never say never.
