According to Dave Thomas in yesterday's 'Torbay Weekly' Gary Johnson confirmed Josh Umerah was fit for Tuesday's match against Altrincham and is in today's squad. Johnson is also looking for an experienced striker - maybe in time for Wealdstone?? Glad he is looking for someone experienced. I think Street can and will come good in that role for us as he can lay off to to others well and Umerah is another work in progress and shades the ‘good physical presence’ aspect of the two, but if we have someone who can do Wright’s job - combination of the two qualities mentioned with added nous - it will improve our recent showings. Today I am really keen that bit part players/returners of recent such as Umerah, Warren, Sheaf, Wynter, Andrews, Waters, Street all get some good game time. Maybe Buse if Chippenham are giving up on their season to give another midfielder a rest? And the youngsters, Slough, Price and Koszela. Or young Olaf as Merse likes to call him.

Daniel Sturridge looking for a club. Short spell at Torquay might suit both parties. Bigger clubs look unwilling to take a chance on him.

I totally understand this is a little out of left field. However Sturridge is obviously keen to get back into the game and I thought a short spell with us...to prove his fitness and as a stepping stone to a bigger club...might suit both parties. Geographic location probably a bigger obstacle than money I would guess.

May have been a possibility 30 or 40 years ago not this day and age I'm afraid Stig. Sturridge was probably on £100k plus a week ay Liverpool and doesn't need the work or to be kicked to touch in non league. Reading his net worth at £20 million he could afford buy the bloody club! His last club in Turkey, Trabzonspor this was his earnings. Salary Daniel Sturridge Footballer - Trabzonspor - Turkey Annual: £1,404,000.00 Monthly: £117,000.00 Weekly: £27,000.00 Daily: £5,400.00 The days have long gone when we could attract former internationals to the lower reaches of the football pyramid and had to stack deckchairs on the seafront in the summer months..., they simply have no need to lower themselves to our level.. I do have fond memories of the ones we did get down to finish their careers, Tony Brown, Tony Currie, Eddie Kelly, Bruce Rioch come to mind, when they had to find a club to earn a living. Was always good to be able to witness a few glimpses of how good they were when they were at their best. Also remember Frank Worthington playing for Stockport County in the mid eighties. Fantastic to watch all silky skills on display and stood out like sore thumb. Never to be seen again I'm afraid Stig...

Maidstone’s recent announcement of fielding youth players likely to see Scott Rendell a ‘free agent’. Older, never blessed with pace, but a line leader with nous. Hmmmn.

Talking about strikers, maybe some writing off Nelson for the remainder of the season is a tad premature - link

It would be good news to have another striker fit but in Nelson we have a player who hasn't kicked a ball in anger for at least six months.
He would need to build up muscle and get match fit (to GJ's hi tempo pressing game standards) and that could take a long time so realistically I don't see it happening.
Also Nelson is an unknown quantity but saw him as the nearest match to the departed Jamie Reid when he signed back in the summer and believe Billy Waters was signed when it was realised he would be out for a long period.

I was hoping we would bring in a new player this week. Hopefully some of our injured players will be fit for Saturday.
