For once technology could be the saviour though I do wonder just how many supporters will be paying to view a league game. This opener, just like a normal start to a season will attract a few extra and depending on how we perform may hang around and continue to pay if the entertainment value and results are up to scratch. My guess is there will be under a thousand £9's spent with a percentage sure to share the cost and watch together. Would love to believe many more would pay to view but there are sure to be a number of supporters who may not be up speed with modern technology and cannot be bothered with making the effort and will choose to listen to matches on the "wireless" for free rather than stand around on a cold terrace. Its possible I could be completely wrong, in fact I hope I am and maybe this could open a up a massive revenue stream particularly if exiled supporters tune in. Surely if streaming proves to be even a minor success and when supporters are allowed back into grounds must be looked at as a possible extra income to gate takings though I do see a danger of attendances being affected when the weather is poor with some may even be quite happy to continue watching at home if they have a choice. All unknowns of course but if revenues can be gleaned from the large number of exiles around the globe then it surely has to be researched. I think people may be disappointed at how many people will stream these games. For example Colchester only had about 450 home fans paying for their stream the other day (I assume this is on top of the season ticket holders who get it for free). Can't see huge numbers of non-regulars (a large perecentage of regulars will surely have a season ticket) paying to watch a sterile streaming picture every week. Let's face it football at this level is generally awful and you wouldn't choose to watch it for entertainment if you didn't support a club down here. I fear many will think that without the match day atmosphere and the chance to meet friends it just isn't that appealing. I expect the numbers to drop off very sharply if we don't start really well. Incidentally, in the league the home club gets the revenue from all the home fans but only from the first 500 away fans. Any more than 500 and the excess money goes to the away club. Not seen anywhere official how it's actually going to work down here, just some conjecture about the home side keeping it all.

Gut feeling and based on nothing rather than optimism, but I reckon more than 1000 will stream the opening game. Confident it will be a good package from reports of PSF coverage and swelled by a well supported side in Stockport County, of course. We’ve been starved of watching our team playing a competitive fixture for a while. It’s a novel thing. I’m well up for it, personally, and suspect many others will be. Certainly those who spend a bit of time on TUFC related social media anyway. Be they political animal wind up merchants retracting into a ‘not me guv’ shell or not.

link – Confirmation of how funds are to be split with our club being in the top tier of £95,000 which will be initially received from October to December. Adding season ticket holders and live stream income then maybe, just maybe we’re not too far off where we would’ve been pre-Covid?

Good news to hear about the 95 000 quid funding. A good FA Cup run would also be timely. Haven't had one of those for a while.

I have just read that Premier League and EFL games will be played during the second lockdown. Will National League games also be played during lockdown?

All elite sports in England will continue. Rumour has it that the game at step 3 and below will be halted but there is the problem of 9 non-elite clubs still being left in the FA Cup.

See how it pans out but would suggest first round is different with a combination of prize money, streaming and TV making it economical to play the matches with no crowds.

Thinking "outside the box"..in order to reduce the number of teams travelling in these Covid stricken times...National League teams play each other once...either home or away. 22 games total. All teams play 11 at home and 11 away. Clubs would, of course, require additional funding. We have already seen a number of NL games postponed. ...if we continue with a 44 game schedule it could be a very long season.

We have already seen a number of NL games postponed. ...if we continue with a 44 game schedule it could be a very long season. It is a worry and with the principle of the season being curtailed this is why Johnson wanted and got a good start because there feasibly could be less time to catch up a runaway leader for example. All the better if it was us of course but think we would need to complete well over half the season. to be considered for promotion. The ray of sunshine is that the season finishes much later than normal with more spring weather and less Covid around and better pitches so some potential to catch up. 11 games scheduled over April and May which includes 2 bank holidays and one Tuesday match and gives a bit of space to play with. We know a lot more about Covid now and how it is spread, so with no crowds at stadia, hopefully “elite football” is an activity that won’t be disrupted too much.

Thanks rjdgull...hope you are right. I was just imagining s worst case scenario where games are routinely being postponed because of Covid, with the possibility of hardest hit clubs not being able to complete their season. The 22 game option would obviously go out of the window if any teams complete home and away fixtures against the same opposition.
