Our 5-0 win at Hartlepool was probably one of the best results of the season but our opponents will want to have some measure of revenge so this will be a tough top of the table clash.
I get the feeling that we are now starting to play better and with players returning from injury will continue to improve and when we are near our best I think we have the beating of any side in this league which is important as where teams finish will more than usual come down to how they fare against the other top teams.
Selection wise, only a few choices now, Boden or Waters to start? Andrews or Buse on the other wing to Whitfield? If Moxey and Lewis are back then the defence is pretty nailed on and actually the best it has been for months. Think Little if fit will be on the bench, he could start in midfield by putting Randell on the right wing but doubt Johnson will break up what has been a very successful unit.
Hartlepool have more or less the same side from when we played them with the important addition of Luke Armstrong, a striker on loan from Salford and scoring some important goals for them. They do seem to be picking up a few injuries now and will not relish the long journey on the back of a tough away midweek game against Halifax. Their away form is not great.

Big game and so important to get things back on track. The injury list has been horrendous but looks to be improving, and although our down turn in January and February with 9 points out of a possible 24 has been agonising to watch, 4 of those dropped points were against strong promotion rivals Sutton United and Notts County. In both of those drawn goalless games we looked at least equal to our opponents and could with the bounce of the ball have ended up winning both.
The opening game of that two month sequence was agonising leading Yeovil Town 1-0 until throwing it away towards the end with two late Yeovil goals. However Yeovil have now gone on a run and I would expect them to reach the play-offs. Their form makes our 6-1 win against them only just over two months ago look something special, as indeed does our 5-0 win at Hartlepool earlier in the season.
Sutton United look to be the main threat to winning the league and they have now had 5 wins in a row. Good on them but can they sustain form and stay free of injuries and suspensions for another 3 months? Unlikely I would think. Only 4 of Sutton's next 13 games are at home, and all 4 of the home games are against promotion rivals including ourselves.
Despite a two month down turn we are still top of the table. We have to concentrate on ourselves and what better way to kick start the recovery than a convincing performance and win against one of the promotion rivals.
I am confident we will do it! ⚽️

This one is big and an indicator to our true credentials. The big win we had up at their place was totally unexpected. A day when everything we did turned to gold. A different set of players will face a much revived Hartlepool who will be desperate for some revenge after that humiliating defeat in front of the BT cameras. Our form of late particularly at home has been poor and I will be watching with some trepidation. Would have liked to see a few more back from injury but it doesn't look like that will be the case and if we are to be top dogs come the final day we need now to find some winning form and put a decent run together.
* Note Aldershot match off on Tuesday due to Covid in their camp.*

The risk Sutton have is that most of their first XI have played most of their games which is a very similar situation to our promotion push under Ling when we ran out of steam in April. I am hoping we have had our “crisis” or iceberg and will be able to finish stronger. Not as if Sutton are blowing teams away like we were pre Christmas and getting a succession of scrappy wins which won’t last forever. I am still very optimistic about our title chances or even winning the play offs if it comes down to it but know particularly with our team nothing is ever guaranteed. Just enjoying watching every game of the best team in the division and we will see where that takes us.... Exciting times 😊

Just noticed the footnote in petef post that the Aldershot game on Tuesday is off. Could work in our favour with the restricted squad options we have. Mr Johnson has some flexibility to give some players a bit more game time without a fixture coming up on Tuesday, and any niggles will have a week to clear up before the important visit to Boreham Wood. ⚽️

Goalkeeper selection will be interesting tomorrow. Newcomer Brzozowski who did ok last week, MacDonald whose loss of control towards the end of the previous game led to the arrival of the newcomer, or Hanlon who again is ok. 4 goalkeepers at the club at the moment a bit ironic when we are struggling to score! 😉

Nervous already and it is not even lunch time ⚽️. With Exeter Chiefs being pushed down to 3rd after a win for Sale Sharks last evening and away to Bath it could be a nail biting afternoon! 🏉
I suppose I should count my blessings that I do not follow cricket as last I heard we were not doing too well at that today! 🏏
Forecast: Torquay United 3 Hartlepool United 1 ⚽️ Bath 15 Exeter Chiefs 26 🏉 India lots England not so many (may still be a draw 😂) 🏏

Our team should be announced shortly. Hartlepool look like they are at full strength with Sterry and Johnson who were doubts being fit enough to play.
Just seen our 5 goals against Hartlepool on the stream.

link - Little, Lewis and Boden start. Maybe Randell on the right?

link - Little, Lewis and Boden start. Maybe Randell on the right? First home game for Boden? Could do with him doing an Eiffion Williams ⚽️

link - Little, Lewis and Boden start. Maybe Randell on the right? Still only three fit defenders. Assuming Andrews left back, that leaves Randell, Lemonheigh-Evans and Little to cover centre mid, wide right and the hole. Lemon could play any of the three roles, but I would like to see him in the hole.

If I was a betting man, I’d have £5 each way on Hartlepool and Sutton wins ☹️

Pity as started the better. Not sure MacDonald needed to come out for that.
