Well this result wasn't unexpected bearing in mind our Curry Night and the appearance on the popside of Jonah Crooky! Talking of curry night.... On my way back towards the A303 after the game, I popped into Eastern Eye for an early evening curry with my good friend Mal and was disappointed to discover that the spinneys didn't spin. Pops and statics?

Lightweight in midfield where we we were particularly strong last term, both wide men didn't cover the ground defensively. I'd agree with everything you've written and especially this about the midfield. I thought our midfield was completely over-run all game. In theory, one of either Rogers or O'Connell might have been expected to help out inside at some point in the game. However I would suggest that any manager who tries to fight any National League team with only two central midfielders will get battered, which is essentially what happened to Little and Lapslie yesterday. Once Asa Hall came on it was like chalk and cheese and we certainly need his quickness of thought as well as his ability to win the ball in the air.

He clearly controlled it with his hand at one stage and I expected the goal to be disallowed. The referee or his assistant didn't spot it and the goal stood. I didn't spot any handball; I think I was unsighted as the Rooney's free cross floated over the defence to Dinanga. What I will say is that the handball law has been significantly changed this year so that a lot of last season's handball decisions will not be given this season. It could be that the ref and/or lino did see the contact and did not think it was an offence. That said, the new law does state: " It is an offence if a player [...] scores in the opponents’ goal [...] immediately after the ball has touched their hand/arm, even if accidental" which would suggest that if the ball made contact with Dinanga's arm and he scored then it should have been disallowed.

am sure Alty will be a handful, so anything less than 100% will see us getting found out. Well we were well below 100% and we certainly were found out. Alty very good value for their 3-1 win - could have won by more. They were "at it", we weren't. I don't think that a stroll in the park against Bournemouth under 12s followed by ten days without a game was the best preparation. We will need to be a lot better than that at Notts County to avoid a hammering. Hall injected some spark and we desperately need him to start next week. Could do with the Lemon to link things up. Two up top may be a luxury we cannot afford until we get some positive momentum. Would be nice to have a pacey bench option. Good to catch up with quite a few people again, to thank Timbo for his programme uploads and to badger Swanny in to posting one of his famous match reports. Shame he did not have better news to deliver. At least the curry was decent.
