So, another campaign ends at Southend but without the promotion potential we had 18 years ago. Unfortunately going from a potential relegation battle to a promotion battle from just before Christmas was a bridge too far and we have fallen just short with the defeat at Grimsby the final nail in the coffin. It was an narrow win for Torquay early on in the season at Plainmoor and it would be good to get a double and show the progress we have made although with a weakened side that will be a difficult task but we shall see. In reality this game has very little meaning other than being professional on the day and making a game of it for the spectators. I personally don't see it as a game to judge our progress. As we all know another exodus of our better players looks to be in the offing so not back to square one but regressing none the less until we see who the manager replaces them with. You cannot judge progress when good players leave at the end of each season its just impossible to build a squad with so much change each season. If we losee CLE, AL and possibly JL with the likelihood of Hall and Wright hanging up their boots, at this level anyway we could well see yet another unpredictable rebuilding job. Only result I'm looking at now is who s going and who GJ brings in.

Oops - we play on Sunday and have changed date.
Pete - the good thing about COVID was we had a settled squad to mount a promotion challenge the following year with younger players adding to their National League experience.

Would be good to end the season with a win.
Will MacDonald be fit or will Halstead have the chance to put himself in the shop window? If Super Shaun is out, will we recall Brzozowski or put young Wonnacott on the bench?
Moxey played a charity game yesterday, so back three will be unchanged.
Will Lapslie and or Little be fit?
If both fit, either Johnson or Felix will miss out.
If neither, would expect either Duke-McKenna or Lemonheigh-Evans to take Little’s free role with either Edwards or O’Connell at wing back or Koszela replacing Lemon up front.
If Lapslie fit but not Little, Johnson could move to wing back to free up Duke-McKenna.

link - neither Little or Lapslie are fit with just four on the bench with Marcin back to cover the GK position so probably just as well that we didn’t make the playoffs… Lewis is captain interestingly….l.

Given its an end of season game with nothing to play for I would have liked to seen starts for Marcin, Olaf, Opi and Louis Slough.

Key to formation will be which side O’Connell is on.
If 4-4-2, he will be on the left in front of Martin.
If 3-5-2, he will be on the right with Duke-McKenna more central.
Funny to see someone kicking off about Moxey playing in the Adam Stansfield game yesterday.
Being fit for a stroll in a walking football legends match is hardly the same thing as being fit for a high intensity National League match.

Sounds like we started the better of the two teams and had a number of chances including hitting the post and having a CLE shot cleared off the line.

Are Lolos and Holman injured? I doubt it Phil. Pointless playing those who are probably seeking pastures new already.

Johnson gets his first goal for the team with a good finish on the stroke of half time.

Looking good for Stockport. Two up and Wrexham one down.
Chesterfield clinging to last play-off place by skin of their teeth. One Woking goal away from missing out.

Straight red for the Southend captain after a dangerous challenge on Wynter.
