link - this long-awaited tournament to now upon us and the England team are joint favourites along with Spain with both France and the Netherlands close behind them. A 5-1 win against the Netherlands in a warm up game will have given a lot of confidence to the squad - linkThese tournaments are getting bigger and bigger and with many of these games sold out and also featured live on the BBC then I can see quite a lot of interest this time. I have tickets myself for both the opening England v Austria game on Wednesday then again for the final at the end of the month so really hope England can go all the way. Think they have made the semifinals at the last three Euro/World Cup tournaments so hopefully the lionesses can break new ground.

So, a winning start for the lionesses but once all the pre match razzmatazz was out of the way it was a nervous start for them during the first 10 minutes or so before settling down and eventually getting a tight goal cleared as it went in which was given by the referee but then had to be verified for the first time in the competition by VAR. England went on to dominate the game but were not clinical enough to take the chances although the Austrian keeper made a very good save on the stroke of half-time. The Austrians had some chances towards the end and felt a bit like a Torquay game where we dominated but then unable to hold on to get the win. Very pleased to be part of a record attendance for the women’s game and hopefully the team can kick on from here - link

Absolutely fantastic game of football and just gutted I wasn’t there tonight! Certainly best game I ever seen the women play and if only the men could play like that?.
Eight nil to England and if you missed that game then you missed a treat and well worth tuning in for the highlights

link - crowd attendance record has been broken at this tournament for the women with 15 games still to go! Bit of a funny game for the women tonight which will be in a dead rubber, Northern Ireland are out and we are the group winners. Opportunity for those players on the bench to get some minutes into their legs in case they are needed later on in the tournament.

2-0 ht to England with 2 well hit strikes just before the break. A good defensive performance for Northern Ireland but you feel the floodgates could open.

Well, 5-0, could have been a lot more as well so not a flawless performance. You could say they were not quite “at it.”

After a very straightforward passage for the group stages, England are now in the knockout stages with a tough game against pre tournament favourites Spain, a team full of Champions League winners and they generally dominate possession in games but do not seem to be that strong upfront. This is possibly due to their record goalscorer Jennifer Hermosa getting injured before the tournament and also losing their Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and think this may make a difference.
England have been on fire so far with Beth Mead being the tournament‘s leading scorer with five goals and two assists and she will hope to add to that tonight. Ellen White is also just one goal behind Wayne Rooney England’s record as well. I think it will be a tough game but hopefully the women can edge it.

And edge it they did with a rocket from Stanway, - Link a goal Worthy of winning any match in extra time. Spain were the better side early on and we needed a Gary time equaliser to stay in the tournament.

As expected Sweden were the winners against Belgium but it took an injury time winner from a corner to score from close range to get through. On this showing England have a great chance but Sweden are the highest ranked side in the tournament and will be no pushovers. They are looking to come up with a cunning plan against England. link

There are no easy games after the group stages and after squeezing past Spain, we play against Sweden with whom we have a very poor record. Hopefully we can put that right and book a Wembley trip for Sunday. Looking forward to this game! link

An eagerly anticipated game tonight. As I’ve posted (somewhere - maybe on TFF?) before, the quality of women’s football is stellar compared to what it was about 10 years ago. That has to be down to the standard of coaching at girls level.
