Some of my thoughts on the game…..
Wyatt and Crowe were poor tonight. Wyatt powder puff and waltzed past many a time. Not impressed by either on that showing.
Hanson occasionally looks alright and occasionally poor. Goodwin looks lively, but was isolated. Tomlinson properly got stuck in when he came on and I like the look of him.
We miss a safe cracker like an Armani Little or Lemonheigh-Evans. I’m not sure where that is in this side yet. And every side needs it. Had hoped Kieron Evans might add that, so was disappointed not to see him start. Looks sharp but we were devoid of anything half competent going forward for the entire second half, so hard to assess him.
What injury does Corey Andrews have or is it the usual media blackout? I’d like to see him up top with Goodwin. Thought Goodwin looked to have something about him.
Disallowed goal I was right in line with and was certainly offside. Didn’t stop me remarking on the linesman’s lack of hair, though.
We did create some chances and I thought two very good goalkeepers were on show for this level tonight. Moxey is looking very good and reading the game well as we’ve come to expect.
Marshall looks alright. Definite red, sadly. Omar’s judgment of aerial balls is shocking but he is a trier and did nothing wrong, which is a first for me watching him.
Not the finished article and unsure where the goals are going to come from. Probably not from anyone on show tonight bar Goodwin and Hall, on that showing. Hopefully, not the case as they progress as a group.

I remember Louis Walsh on the XFactor saying, “have you got another song?”
In our case it must say…have you got a plan B, because one goal in three games ain’t good enough.
Forget all this we’ll see where we are after ten games nonsense, because I’ll tell you where we’ll be, waving the league leaders goodbye as we watch their arses disappear over the horizon! 👋

I thought Crowe and Wyatt looked good signings on paper but was disappointed with them both against Oldham. If you are going to play 3-5-2, you need wing-backs who get up and down and provide real width going forward whilst not leaving you short at the back. Cue Dave Thomas style ramble about Gurney and Gibbs. Did not think Crowe or Wyatt did either part of the job well against Oldham - especially the attacking part - leaving us short of attacking options. Andrews and Goodwin looked a promising pairing for fifteen minutes or so against Oldham until Andrews pulled up injured. Seems that Goodwin has been lacking an effective partner ever since, so unfair to expect the youngster to carry the front line single-handed. Really need Andrews and Jarvis back to give us options up front. No idea when we will have all three fit to choose from.

Yeah, Goodwin seemed isolated at times, albeit promising. I don’t think Hughes offers much as part of a front two or a 10. Maybe just a poor game last night from him.

I think Hughes, Evans and McGavin would all be happier just behind the front two (if we are playing 3-5-2) than as one of the front two. The advantage of 3-5-2 is supposed to be that it does allow you to play two up front. You just need two actual strikers to be fit! One striker and wing-backs who won’t push up will inevitably leave you looking toothless.

Highlights are up and more than a little demoralised after watching. The part timers should have won by many more and looked capable and sharper on the ball where as we dwelled and lost possession in dangerous areas and generally looked second best. Without Halstead once again performing heroics it could have been four or five against. At this moment in time we're looking much weaker than the the second half of last season. Time will tell of course.

If you factor in the time out injured we are pretty much part-timers..

TUFC match report I was out and about for this game but heard quite a bit in the car and again we seemed to do a lot of defending and not much attacking with Halstead again keeping us in the game. May have been different if Goodwin had taken his opportunity and not hit the bat (again) but we cannot keep sneaking results against the run of play.
