How did that happen? 🤔
Would have preferred to lose to be honest, because that area on a cold wet almost winter midweek night is pretty grim (having worked around there) and the return journey after the almost inevitable loss will not be pleasant.
The only positive that can be taken from this replay, is that we have managed to at least win (one game?) away from home!

I can’t believe the amount of applause heard at the end of a dire game.
We matched Hampton in being poor 🤔

Have to have some sympathy for GJ having lost Little,Lemon,Wright, Lewis and Wynter, all proven players at the level. Add them to Cameron,Whitfied, Nemane from the previous year and most clubs would struggle. Some of the new recruits will mature into decent performers but others are far below the required standard. We definitely seem to be shopping at Lidl lately so tough times ahead unfortunately. the crux of our on pitch problems but you have to ask what the real reasons are and why we are continually losing the best players with little effort to retain and build. To me its obvious and a blatant tactic to run the club down to a level thats more financially sustainable. The manager who has to agree or walk away is attempting the impossible with young inexperienced low earners. We all have to accept that the club can no longer compete financially with the bigger ex league clubs at this level a situation that will get worse for us as more established FL clubs drop down. We will eventually be squeezed out of this division at the wrong end. The football club is showing no ambition to get out at the right end and in massive debt to the owners. GJ had his initial flurry of success and us four years older. He knows its likely his last management job so no point in rocking the boat and has nothin to prove to anyone. Blame the manager, sack him if you like but nothing now will stop the rot

Hate to depress you stig but we all should be looking a bit deeper than the front man for our decline and deficiencies. GJ is the easy target and my opinion is its all down to budget restrictions. Not sure how long he will put up with being abused by a minority who cant see past their noses at the end of their face. Been supporting the club as long as you if not longer stig but still realise how fortunate we are to have the man though cant see him hanging around if the situation continues to deteriorate with his hands tied.

Thanks petef. ..I did not mean to infer criticism of GJ....total respect for him for everything he has done for the club. Was thinking more in the line of wealthy owners to try and carry the club forwards. Probably a pipe dream.... PS.. have been a supporter since I was 11....59 years. Such fond memories...which no doubt is why we both find the current situation so painful.

Still just about surviving on the fumes of those thrilling and entertaining times. The gj comment was just a general one who believe that a simple fix change of manager is the cure-all answer and not directed at anyone in particular. Not wanting to depress you in any way but the chances of seeing our club return to its former status as a FL club are extremely slim.

The opponents corner at 4.45 and the huge midfield gaps and space in midfield as they attacked us through the middle sums it all up. Completely lost our defensive shape in midfield and at the back on so many occasion sand should have conceded more. Truly shocking. Not sure we can afford to play a slow and ponderous Asa Hall without young pacey legs around him. We don't to have players like a Whitfield or Nemane to disguise his shortcomings any more. Yes we need his knowhow but at what cost?

...and H&R's version here.
I think their commentator was just explaining how his Sunday League team would never have defended a corner as badly as Torquay did to gift them a free shot at goal inside the box when he was interrupted by Hampton going 2-0 up.

You could see the gulf in quality between National League and National League South.
Yet we were very lucky to come out with a draw.
Slow in movement and even more importantly slow in thought.
A decent National League side would have helped themselves to a hatful.
Oh dear.
One bright spark was De Silva - at last a glimpse of speed and energy. Expect he will be off to Mongolia on International duty soon.
Team looked stronger on paper, but Lapslie and Hall clearly not fit. Will be lucky if they can manage to share ninety minutes on Tuesday. And what if it goes to extra time?

GJ had his initial flurry of success and us four years older. He knows its likely his last management job so no point in rocking the boat and has nothin to prove to anyone. Blame the manager, sack him if you like but nothing now will stop the rot It's been quite some time since I last posted anything on here, because I have quite simply lost interest in a club which was once one of my main interests in life. I look back and realise that the years between 1954 to 1969 were the halcyon days as far as I am concerned. John Bond applied for the vacant managerial position, but was rejected! What could the club have achieved under his leadership and with his contacts? Instead, all the best players followed him to Bournemouth in the next two years, and that was the end of the glory days. There have been the odd years, under Knowles, Hodges, Rosenior, Buckle and now Johnson, when hopes were raised that better times were ahead, but invariably the better players in those teams were allowed to move on and the club has once again sunk to a low ebb. Whether or not this constant outward movement of good players has been due to geography, poor remuneration or lack of ambition on the part of the club, who knows? I just wanted to say that I agree with every word that PeteF has said, particularly the point about running the club down to a financially sustainable level. The club is now exactly where it belongs, and nobody should be surprised if tomorrow's match is lost. For me, though, the most sobering thought is the extent to which Jon has gradually become depressed with the obvious decline of everything within the club.
