Any reason why the Maquire grapple wasn’t even looked by VAR and the Iran penalty was given. We’ll see that Ref here next season 😀

A comfortable 6-2 win for England to get their tournament going! We made it look easy. Very pleasing and I don’t remember us with too many first match dominant performances in World Cups over the years. Usually fairly hesitant affairs, aren’t they? Created plenty today. Agree with chelstongull that VAR usage and interpretation already seems inconsistent. Although Stones certainly fouls the bloke (who finished superbly for their first), grabbing a fistful of shirt. Maguire may now be out under concussion protocol as he looked a bit groggy when he went off, but Kyle Walker should hopefully be available for the USA game. Looking forward to the Welsh game this evening.

It was refreshing to sit through an England match without actually falling asleep.

Kieffer on the bench, so just one Devon boy in the starting eleven.
One more than in England’s.

Think Kane should have worn the One Love armband.Alternatively would like to see England players wearing rainbow socks in next game...or replace the National Anthem ( complete dirge) with Village People's YMCA...a classic.

His presence and drawing of defenders enabled a few to bomb on to assist and Wales looked so much better after looking way off the pace against a quick USA side in the first half. Thought Wales might have ended up winning in the end. Very pleased they got their equaliser.

Was very surprised that Wales left Moore out. They handed the initiative to USA by sitting back and inviting them to attack them. When they went on the front foot - led by Chelston’s scouting recommend - they looked the better team.
Was pleased to see England go on the front foot from the off using my favourite 4-2-3-1 formation. That was ideally suited to messrs Nemane, Lemonheigh-Evans and Whitfield but Saka, Mount and Sterling fitted the job description with Rashford, Foden and Grealish making up a decent B team.

Judging by the reaction in the local cafes Morocco pretty happy with the 0-0 against Croatia.

I am preparing to get over it.

If Canada hadn’t been even more woeful than Torquay in front of goal, then there might have been a further shock result.
