Looks like we won 3-2.Is that the first home win of the season? Not quite. That 6-1 victory over Aldershot in November was NOT a dream!

What's to celebrate? Conceding two early goals against one of the worst sides a division below.
At least we know what we will be facing next season.

A crowd of 768 with 15 away fans apparently.
That must be the smallest home crowd for a competitive first team match for many, many years.
I remember 601 v Swansea in the LDV Trophy in 86/87 season (during which I remember a bit of crowd trouble among home fans, as away fans had just been banned in the aftermath of the Wolves match) but I don’t remember many games since being as low as less than 800.

How could I forget 6-1? Claiming a " senior moment". Unfortunately had another senior moment on Saturday...gave policeman a ride to the security booth near the golf course...totally zoned out and drove off while he was getting out of the car. Dragged him for about 20 yards before I realised. True story.

link - and slightly, surprisingly, a home tie against Taunton is our reward for that comeback win.

Doubting that anyone would have understood the above ☝️ let me explain. Mrs Pew remembers the occasion as she was from the area: lots of banners, flags and a real party atmosphere. This is what/who these types of competitions are aimed at, teams that have zero chance of ever getting into the league (or getting back into the league) so gives their supporters/players a great day out at Wembley, and win or lose everyone has a great time. This is not a competition for teams that have any aspirations of returning to main line football. Although some people still refuse to accept it, this competition cost us promotion two seasons back. We had a good team and would have walked over the line. Now we have a crap team and relegation is assured! This is not just relegation from the NL, but the beginning of relegation from football itself, because I’m quite sure someone is getting highly pissed off that every season we go after an amount of money which the equivalent is to be found down the back of his settee! The dreamers will be along shortly to extol the virtues of this competition…I do hope though that the twopence we earned from winning this game is spent wisely!

There was a guy near me who kept on singing about Wemberly, nowt and strange as folk eh.

A good chance for quite a few players who have looked barely National League South standard so far this season to step up to the plate and prove that they really are National League South standard. Don’t think Chippenham will be putting Crowe, Hanson or McGavin on their shopping list for next season. McGavin’s sloppiness gave them their first goal. The only mark Hanson left on the game was a clumsy challenge that looked like getting a red before the ref changed his mind to show yellow instead. He was hauled off at half-time. Injury to Crowe was a mixed blessing. On the plus side we could bring on Tomlinson who understands the basics of defending. On the minus side, Moxey had to play ninety minutes. A good assist from Andrews but he did little else. In his defence, he is still short of match-fitness. The Popside jury was unanimous that he was well offside in the build up to the goal, but video evidence suggests he timed his run just right. 4-4-2 throughout, but in the first half you could almost see why people wrongly talk of a back three. Only three defenders, because Crowe cannot defend. He pushes up more than Moxey. Whereas we need Moxey back defending, we lose little defensively by Crowe pushing up. Evans often tucked in to the centre from wide right in the first half. With Hanson off, De Silva was far more of an outright wide man - with Evans now in the centre with McGavin. Wearne was wide left throughout - but always a wide midfielder never a ŵing-back. We got away with playing Evans and McGavin as a central two against a poor Chippenham team. If we tried it in a league game, we would be ripped to shreds. Wemberley, Wemberley.
