Just remember that England have only ever won a major trophy under a Labour Government! 1908 and 1912 were under Asquith’s Liberal government. And 1900 was under Salisbury's Tory administration.

More beef upfront required.
Left early to avoid the rush, cars on the road for miles

Nice to be back watching football again after what happened at the end of last season and with more prolonged and heavier rain than forecast it had the authentic feel of the football season. Nice to meet up with Chelston as I am normally in a different part of the ground to him. As expected played in a 3–5–2 formation and with Crosbie rested as rumoured to be coming back from a niggle meant we had two similar strikers in Seymour and Ash upfront. Carson and Craske were the wing backs and midfield three of Threlkeld, Hasani and Hayfield. Tomlinson was in the center of defense with Moxey on his left and Booth on the right with Hamon of course in goal. Early days, as players get match time in their legs, but it was apparent how we were solid in defence and in control of the game. Possibly could have been a few goals to the good by half time particularly if the players were a bit sharper but as it was, we hit the woodwork twice in the first 10 minutes, good overhead kick from Hasani coming off the post and either a Booth or Tomlinson header hitting the crossbar from a corner. Threlkeld was captain in the defensive midfield position doing the simple things very well, but Hassani probably stood out the most for me making some good runs, showing some good quality on the ball and unlucky not to score. Tomlinson fresh from re-signing did not have too much to do but his distribution going forward was very good. Bit more disjointed in the second half due to a combination of rain, trialists and youth players reducing the overall quality. The back three of Palmer, Dreyer and Dyer looked very solid as well and lots of options for Wooton and decisions to make in this area. Dyer clashed heads and sustained a nasty cut later on though which may put him out next week. Booth switched to central midfield in the second half and did well there, suspect this is where he will more likely provide cover. Collins came on in central midfield and with his shirt tucked in reminded me a bit of Lapslie. Big Trialist striker up front providing the beef Chelston is looking for and rumoured to be Harry Lodvika. Good attendance of 1781! - link

A comfortable and entertaining 4-1 win on a balmy mid summer evening 🤣🤣. Hardly but thats what many expected. Just like the British weather, performances and results at such an early stage are unpredictable and human nature dictates a percentage of supporters will inevitably be griping online and on a downer today. The game itself panned out more or less as I expected and it was no surprise Buckland were solid and uncompromising in all areas. Player identification for half of the starting eleven was an issue for me and even worse after half time with all of the changes. However a few caught the eye for various reason. Ben Seymour looked fit sharpe and a proper handful. Similar in build and playing style to Brad Ash but up a notch or two. Cant see them both starting as a front pair and glaringly obvious we needed a more physical target man in the first 45. Booth, Tomlinson and Moxey looked comfortable and well in control but were never really tested as was keeper Hammond..Plenty of energy and a high work rate as promised though with little end product in the final third but solid enough. With six changes at half time and a new back three and skipper in Collins who looks and performs like a typical midfielder of older times. Upright, vocal and committed with his shirt tucked in hos shorts and elegantly upright -he impressed. The second keeper had little to do but looked reasonably accomplished. No idea who he was but the number 5 at the back looked the part. Tall, slim and looks athletic and looked confident with the ball at his feet playing out from the back. From my perspective none of the forward replacements impressed enough but that maybe a little unfair on one showing. The tall black guy really looked the part, tall strong and athletic before he touched the ball but it soon became apparent this was just a younger version of Dwain Offori A Crucial we get the front players in that can hold the ball and offer some pace and threat out wide. I thought that was our weakness last night, reflected in the score line and not gone unnoticed by the manager. These will be the toughest squad positions to fill without doubt and will dictate how strong our challenge will be this coming season. Note. Hats off to the 10 stone overweight Buckland trainer who showed off some great football skills at half time.🤣
