Nice to hear that the squad is travelling up today to maximize the chances of getting a result. They should be confident mood after Tuesday night and while Foulston is described as no more than 50-50 at best, Moxey is a more than able deputy and suspect that Wotton will rest him up to get him back to 100% for the following Saturday like he did for Craske on Tuesday. Hemel visit Slough tomorrow so could be an opportunity to go top before FA Cup duties next weekend. Looks like this game is to be streamed as well - link

A sharp reality check today. Not enough threat up top IMHO just didnt trouble the keeper enough which jas been a general pattern so far i would say. Did most things right in a poor game and thought it was ours to win if we showed more intent in the last third. Didnt see much wrong withe the disallowed goal and missed our best chances hitting the woodwork twice. Both of their late goals came from our left side the second caused by a real howler from Deano who looked out on his feet and stood still while an opponent took the ball from him. Its up top where the issues are IMHO simply not threatening enough intent or energy in the last third though would also say a few of todays starting line up would likely be second choice . Welling were as poor as ive seen this season and should have been dead and buried early. Work to do for the manager and we need to start turning possession into many more attempts on target.... Onwards and upwards as they say...👍

Yes, should have put the game to bed much earlier and not sure how we contrived to lose by two goals. Good point about Moxey as first start for him this term. Bad day at the office but need to move on to the next one….

Guessing we may see loan players at Plainmoor soon. Wotton has already said he doesn't like loan players. We may need some to replace the injured/banned but I very much doubt he will get loan players in as an improvement. He knows he has a work-in-progress squad, he knows they are young and will make mistakes. It is his job to build them into a better team that wins games like today's. Getting new players in now will be an acknowledgement that his recruitment was wrong and he doesn't have the ability to "coach" them into being better players. That was the last bloke; Wotton is a big improvement on him and I really do believe we will see much better performances from this team in the new year. We just have to be patient. Not one of the Pop Side's strengths I agree... PS - And I still cannot believe we are 5th! I've only seen the Dorking and Avely games this season, but had you told me we were mid-table I would have been pleasantly surprised...

link - 0-0 HT but Cooke wrongly had a goal disallowed as ball came off the defender. That's right. The ref blundered big time and his telling off from the adjudicator after the match won't give us any points. The lino was correct to flag that Cooke was in an offside position BUT, and this is the important bit, it is not an offence to be in an offside position. The lino is saying to the ref: "Torquay 19 is in an offside position, its up to you to spot who played the ball last". The ref can't see that Seymour has played the ball (because he hasn't), so he has simply guessed that Seymour did. That's rank bad refereeing: you can only give what you see and you shouldn't guess what has happened. Actually, I think the lino is in a good position to see that the ball has gone past Seymour before coming back to Cooke, so he must realise that the ball has hit the Welling defender. To clarify any other scenarios: the ball came from a throw-in so Cooke cannot be offside when he heads it, and Seymour was behind Cooke so he cannot be offside. Bleddy NLS officials!

I never liked the way Johnson relied on loanees, I felt he was trying to find a way to compensate for his lazy and inept recruitment, unless it is done to cover for long term injuries then it is an admission of failure. I also cannot understand the willingness from fans to have loanees because there is no guarantee of quality, it is all very well looking back and feeling a warm glow from memories of Sinclair Armstrong, but for every promising QPR starlet we got there were at least half a dozen Rob Streets. You are quite correct in saying that it is Wotton's job to mould what he has got into a fit for purpose team, and that will show more integrity than Johnson ever had.

I listened to the BBC Radio Devon commentary and saw the Torquay Talk video of the perfectly good goal that was disallowed. Interestingly the lino officiated at Ashton Gate. I hate VAR and wouldn’t want to see it at this level (or at any level come to that) but surely it’s not too much to ask for match officials to be up to the job.
It sounded as if we were poor and as others have said, the team is a work in progress. I like to remind myself at the final whistle at matches like this that we very nearly didn’t have a team playing at all.
It was interesting to hear Rave Thomas on the commentary describing the posters of the video as “our friends at Torquay Talk”! How times are changing. Would someone like to point out to him how firmly he nailed his colours to the mast of the previous regime? It would seem that even Rave is having to accept that those collectively calling for wholesale change last season might have been right all along.
I miss Dom Mee’s commentary when listening on a rainy Saturday afternoon by the radio. His enthusiasm filled the airwaves with a constant stream rather than the dead airtime and babble of others. Particularly when we were on the ball there’d be a fervent repetition of the players name e.g. Moxey, Moxey, Moxey, still Moxey. The BBC would do well to give him a go.

Think I will go with the flow in respect of loan players. We are still ahead of where our expectations were in a young and still improving side, that is looking to gell together in a below par away performance which we could still have won on another day. By all means bring in a short term loan to cover for injury but still more to come I hope.
Been a tough start and most sides seem to have picked up injuries to a lessor or greater extent. Our forward line is fine due to rotation. Hayfield and Foulston have been more or less constants and both picked up injuries- hopefully not too bad in the case of the former but could be weeks out. FA Cup probably has come at a good time for us, would like to see Mussa start and show some of his PSF magic and help him get up to speed.
