Why don't we ban pasties? i remember in recent seasons a lino get hit on the shoulder with a pastie. we were reported to the FA but no action taken, just put on the bad boys list.

Let's face facts: if someone wants to throw something, they will throw something with or without a lid/top.

Bloody nanny state. Next they will be proposing minimum charges for a unit of alcohol!! oh shit, they have ;D

btw i enjoyed your fleet-footed swift dash up the touchline when the lino flagged (incorrectly) for an offside for Green's goal, when you thought a rather older gentleman was making his way towards the lino. i think he was going for a piss but you can't be too careful, can you?

As a regular bucket shaker on behalf of the TORQUAY UNITED SUPPORTERS' TRUST, I might be able to cast some light on this.

There is a popular misconception that it is ILLEGAL to shake a bucket when collecting for a charity. A supporter, NOT a steward, once said so to me as I was shaking away at the Popside exit after a match. I checked this out and found that it is NOT illegal to shake a bucket. It IS illegal to solicit donations in an aggressive way that might upset or annoy the people being solicited.

As long as collectors are just shaking buckets to alert people that they are in the vicinity and not pestering or badgering people into donating, they are doing nothing wrong.

Perhaps Steve might want to check the truth of what I am saying and then brief his stewards as to what the law is. It may well be that some stewards are attempting to enforce what they genuinely believe the laws of the land to be but are mistaken in their understanding.

I heard about the tin and bucket shaking story before Christmas and yes you guessed correctly, it was on the J.Vine show.It was on there because the Salvation Army had been told they were no longer allowed to shake their collection tins and the reasons given were much the same as Jon has put in his post.

I do feel that a football match I have never felt I had to put money in a bucket if I did not want too and I think we all except that collections will often take place at a match.

Out in the street you can always give a wide berth to anyone collecting, or who wants to stop you for some survey and so I never feel again that I have to do anything I don't want to.

I will put in most collections in the ground and the ones in the street will depend on what the collection is for. As you would expect Cancer charities will always be ones I will give money too, but there are some collections that I feel maybe not so worthy.

The one real problem I do have with collections and people trying to talk with me, is in supermarkets, I was talking about this with my bosses wife today, after I saw the post on here. She felt the same as me and I know I feel under more pressure to give, when my exit from the supermarket is almost blocked by someone with a collecting tin or bucket.

Talking about supermarket collections, I was told today that in Asda at Newton Abbot, there are collection buckets or tins by the checkouts that have Toddy's pictures on them, I have not seen any in the supermarkets here in Paignton.

Not only did the female steward complain about them shaking their buckets but she complained that my mate had stopped to put money in, on the way to the bar at half-time, because it was causing an obstruction!!!

No excuse if he has hit a young boy at the ground, but I would expect things may not have been very good with the Weymouth fans and emotions must have been running very high.
