I feel for any true fan and the demise of their club. However, some clubs don't seem to help themselves by getting players in on 'Billy Big Bollocks' wages on gates they know can't support them. While our players were brought in with gates expected to be much higher, can we expect to see players released soon? I only ask as gates of 1500 and 1700 can't support a 22 man squad, even more so when it is believed many are on top money for BSP players.

We have had the additional benefits of the parachute payment (1st year) and the Trophy and FA Cup run last year which has put some extra cash into the coffers. Hopefully this years cup run will also help us next year. I would expect that with dropping gates, no cup runs etc we would cut our cloth accordingly unlike Weymouth!!

and you answered - "All because ONE OWNER tried to buy success", which IS rubbish and if you read Ian Ridley's excellent book "Floodlit Dreams" (you can get it on amazon.com for a little over a fiver) you will be better educated to make informed comment on their current situation. Certainly better comment than "All because one owner tried to buy success" and then insinuate that the "one owner" was Martyn Harrison. I have read “Floodlit Dreams” albeit a few years ago and what I recall of it seems to more or less support what Dave says. Before Ridley got involved the club was surviving o.k. by “cutting its cloth” but was not really going anywhere and would have been accused by some of “lacking ambition”. The parallel to our club would possibly be the Bateson regime. Ridley came in with plans to shake the club up and reinvigorate it. He was accused by some of spending silly money and jeopardising the club’s finances, but the book explains the reasoning behind the plan. The money paid out was not as excessive as some believed. In the short-term, the club was operating at a fairly substantial loss but this was planned and covered by inward investment – new shares issued broadly covered the losses. The plan was that giving the club a kick-start would improve revenue to the point that a higher level of expenditure would be sustainable in the medium term without further investment. The parallel to our club would possibly be the current consortium who seem to have a plan that involves pumping money in initially, hoping that the club will become self-sustainable at a higher level of income and expenditure but with a fallback position of a managed retrenchment. There was a power battle between Ridley and Martyn Harrison because Harrison had a bigger dream of pumping in much larger sums of money but did not really have a sustainable plan – although I assume Dave is suggesting that the fallback plan was to recover losses from the sale of land. I can’t remember how the politics unfolded, but Harrison’s vision – which would be far more appealing to those who don’t think these things through – won the day. I don’t think Harrison’s good intentions are questioned, but Ridley did warn that it would all end in tears. He was right. I’m glad to see that it seems that the Terras have been saved. Of course they will now be a weaker team having lost a number of key players, but they should still be competitive and the fact that sometimes you meet a team on a high and sometimes one on a low is part of life. Fortunately, Rushden are unlikely to be involved in promotion or relegation issues so there has been no harm done where it matters. If one 9-0 drubbing is the price of Weymouth’s survival, it is a price worth paying. If nothing had been sorted out, Weymouth could not have been allowed to continue taking 9-0 drubbings to the end of the season. A deal would have had to be done that they could have a place in Southern League SW Division (where Taunton and Truro currently operate) next season if they agreed to withdraw from the BSP now. That could have kept the club alive and allowed it to regroup without distorting relegation and promotion issues in the BSP.

I see that the take over of the Weymouth club by a Devon businessman has not yet been completed, but it is hoped it will happen on Monday. Weymouth are also hopeful that they will be able to put out a stronger side today. Lets hope the deal is done on Monday, so they can strengthen the side further and make things a bit more fairer for the teams who have already played Weymouth this season. www.dorsetecho.co.uk/sport/4160739.Seniors_could_bolster_Terras/

Good to see that Weymouth only lost by two gaols away today and if they can get things sorted out on Monday, then not only will they be saved from going under, but will be able to have a team that will be more completive and should stop those moaning about them and shut them up for a while.

I resemble that remark I think you are saying you agree ;D bloody college people using words I do not know Fonda was right to say that Bucks should not have been talking about Weymouth, it is down to our team and manager to win games and then no matter what happens with Weymouth, or the results of any of their games, we will be in the play-offs.

It gives all/most of the clubs left to play Weymouth a better chance of three points than those poor buggers who have already played them (some twice!).
No one likes to see a footie club go out of business but it is unfair for them to continue and they should (if finances permit) take their place in the Conference South next season.

stuartb, those long lonely nights on the hills of wales has made you a hard and heartless man no they will not be fielding a side that will be looking to get in the play-offs, but if the club is saved and they can bring in a some loan players, who might just get the team more completive, then they will have the close season to rebuild a proper team and the fans of the club will rejoice.
