thanks dave, see you there. Sadly I will not be there due to car problems(having to use the works van to get to work at this time) but look out for Barton Downs, tufc01, and paulr, who I know will be there tonight.

Well that was a bit of a farce. Match postponed due to 'divots on the pitch'! I'm only glad the ground is less than 15 minutes walk from my front door!

We spoke to the Ref, who said it was called off due to a rock hard pitch, that was dangerous to the players. The Torquay players/management were also unhappy with the state of the pitch. You have to think that Elmore dropped a big bollock there. They have a game against a BSP team that is going to play a strong side with several first teamers. In other words a possible money spinner (in terms of their usual gate receipts etc). What made it worse is that even though I work in Tiverton at the moment, i drove home first and then went back. I wasn't that surprised though. In fact, when we drove home earlier this afternoon we popped in to have a quick look (when i say we, i mean myself and someone who is a groundsman himself) and barely 3 hours from kick off no one was around, no lines marked, no watering and it looked harder than a dogs knob. Whilst I appreciate teams at their level of football rely on volunteers to prepare the pitch. However, i know that the guy i was with puts a massive amount of time, effort and planning into every game and i know that he would have been planning the watering etc for days, to make sure it was near perfect conditions for the game. With a game as big as this was to Ellmore you think a bit more foresight might have gone into it? I know my opinion is slighted by a waste of an evening and over an hour round trip, and no MacDonald's thick shake. A costly mistake on the part of Ellmore me thinks and i would have to think twice before returning back to that ground. I knew i should have gone to the Buckland vs Saltash game instead. Perhaps a bye for us into the next round now beckons.

[glow=yellow,2,300]What made it worse[/glow] is that even though I work in Tiverton at the moment, i drove home first and then went back. What made it even worse was tonights results. Stevenage & Histon BOTH winning comfortably. And the final kick in the nuts, Exeter winning, with 10 men. Come on give us a break. So the only Devon (league) Derby next season is going to be Exeter vs Plymouth.

I knew i should have gone to the Buckland vs Saltash game instead. There's always Buckland v Bodmin on the Tuesday immediately after Easter... I strolled up the hill tonight to be reminded of the continuing progress at Exeter City and of the sorry decline of Port Vale. Their spell as top dogs in the Potteries must seem a distant memory now. I'd imagine their supporters - a 100 of them there tonight - must be in complete denial over the whole existence of Stoke City these days. Bring back John Rudge - Port Vale's best ever manager and the best one we never had?

Their groundsman, who was meeting people as they arrived to give them the news, told me that he had rolled the pitch on Tuesday, but the Ref had deemed it not fit for "the professional players"! Oh well, better luck next time but a shame as I saw a number of Gulls fans in the ground.

I guess Elmore have been struggling along for some time now amongst all those Bristol and Somerset teams towards the foot of the lower of the Western League's two divisions. They had the chance of joining the SW Peninsula Premier when it was established but decided to stick with heading up the M5 rather than down the peninsula. It'll be interesting to see which way the club jumps in future.
Elmore had one good season in the mid 1990s when they challenged Tiverton all the way for the Western League title - I'm led to believe the home game against Tivvy was all-ticket! It appears somebody bankrolled the club and appointed Eamonn Collins (ex-Exeter, etc) as player-manager who flashed the cash and attracted many of the players who would have otherwise been at Taunton or Bideford. Apparently Collins himself was something of a loose cannon - he's now an agent in Ireland - and, with the likes of Mark Loram on board, the whole episode ended in tears and bans all round for various misdemeanours. I think I'm right in saying this led to Lors - plus a few others - playing in SW League for Penzance until the Western League allowed them to return. The story I heard involved bodily fluids and a league official's car but, naturally, I can't vouch for its accuracy.

Anyone going to this one tonight?
I would really like to have gone but will instead torture myself by enduring the Barrow "commentary" on Radio Devon.
I see Brough and Adams are in the squad along with Robbie Herrera - who is so old that I will put a thread about him on the history room.
