Jusr sat in the Histon stand digesting it all - great that we did this part of the job - great that we have gone one better than last season as well. They pushed us all the way but in the second half the defense answered all the Hoton questions. Apparently the shot that hit the bar at the end was saved by Poke - even though I was just a few metres away I missed that - saw the flag go-up but I think that was for an incident after the shot and we could have faced an agonising 30 more minutes!
The pitch was very poor - 'a disgrace' as Bucks said. Still, we held firm and that's what counts! Only just got here aw they kicked-off but I bet the journey back doesn’t feel so long!

otobe Poke did make a great save pushing the ball up onto the crossbar, the flag went up for off side, I think it was for the Histon player standing in front of Poke, so it may not have counted had it not been saved.

Don`t worry," Womble Land" won`t be that fixed and Poke actually saved that one that came off the cross bar, I think Scott might have prevented the first goal of theirs going in but that is all by the by now! I thought our over watering efforts took the piss but that ground out there today PLEASE someone tell me the last time you saw a ground presented for the T.V. that was that BAD!

It was a disgrace aussie and it worked against them later in the game, so if they had done it to gain any advantaged , it sure back fired on them. With 15 minutes to go their forwards in our box could not keep their own feet and slipped all over the place. Not saying they tried to cheat or anything, but the saying goes that cheats never prosper

Of course they tried to cheat, with a ground like that and a crap stadium how could they qualify for the league, then saying that I went to A-cringe-ton Stanley!

That pitch wasn't good enough to grow carrots on let alone extract some football from that bunch of Scarecrows that Fallon and the Mad professor Beck turn out. Every throw from Gwillim is a foul throw as it corkscrews from him having one hand behind the ball, Village Idiot Mitchell - King's sole worth is to foul the keeper by obstructing or backing into him at every restart and half of them couldn't trap a beetroot. what a dreadful, dreadful side and shite pitch, what a horrible little "ground" where the best vantage point is the free view from the railway embankment....................some advert for the BSP they are, fecking dreadful and I've no time for them whatsoever; no sympathy towards them as losers and pure contempt for their greed in trying to screw eighteen bloody quid for kids to sit and watch that rubbish. I thought our professional and measured reaction after told a million tales about us and Cambridge and hopefully we can stay focused, have a rub of the green for once at Wembley and leave Cambridge solely "celebrating" their great achievement in overcoming a Stevenage side that didn't show ten per cent of the resolve and courage that our lads did tonight. The right two sides won through today, the best two sets of fans got what they deserved and the small time uninspiring fans of Stevenage and Histon got what they deserved............... NOTHING! ;D

While we still were not able to get the ball down and play much football, Benyon did trouble them at times. do you think so Dave, do really, really think Benyon "troubled" them? I thought tonight showed just why him and Stevens struggle to hold down a first team place, they gave the ball away endlessly with their poor body strength and careless passing without thought. They were boys against men trouble is they are not boy's ages are they? I know and appreciate it was a night for resolve, strength of body and mind and focus and once the game became "stretched" it became obvious that Histon didn't have an ounce of football common sense in them nor one iota of skill and very little technique. The sad thing is that Mad Professor Beck has always produced sides like this when he was such a talented player himself and what one needs to ask oneself is just what levels and minimum standards of technique and football appreciation do Histon expect from their much vaunted youth policy, because as far as I can see anyone who tried to play football in that set up would sink without trace!

Have just got in from the game and although I don't usually feel the need to comment on this occasion I need to pass on my thoughts.
Firstly the fans were incredible tonight. There was non stop singing accompanied by the super drummer. The Yellow Army chant was almost continuous. Well done to everyone there.
Secondly the referee was the worst I have seen for many a year. He gave us nothing and failed to protect any of our players against the continual foul play from Histon. If he is ever put in charge of a football game again it will be a tragedy.
As far as the game was concerned we all knew the kind of tactics Histon would employ. I really feel sorry for their supporters if they have to watch this kind of football every week, no wonder they were so quiet, probably brain dead at the end of a season of up and under football.
The first half was awful. We conceded so early on there was no time to settle. From then on it was a continual bombardment.
The second half was much better and we seemed to be more composed. Many of us felt we had a good shout for a handball in the penalty area, but didn't have the benefit of a replay.
The last few minutes were nail biting, but we held on.
We must look at this over the whole season and I say well done to Paul Buckle and every player in the squad.
Looking forward to Wembley which will be a totally different match.

Hi all Just got in and agree with most of Geddington Gulls points. Just a few bits to add: It was a very strange day all-in-all. As I am sure most fans in the pub and at the ground will agree it was quite surreal with not only Histon and Torquay supporters but also Cambridge fans everywhere. They were more vocal than the Histon fans I think. Supporters were fantastic throughout. Had a great afternoon of Company with Teddgull and his son but far more exciting was being so close to Helles Belles. My lad was more excited cos the guy she was with is Pro Darts player..James Wade (sorry if I am behind with gossip). He had his piccie taken at the end with the pair of them and when I wrap my head round technology will post.
Anyway great day and the right result. Hey Dave R--are we gonna have a WFM-----Wembley Forum Meet??
Cheers guys sleep well!!!!!!!!!

Well done to Bucks and the team for getting to the final under very trying circumstances. Also our support came across great on Setanta. I think today's game, more than any, showed why this is such a difficult league to get out of. I wonder how a team like Man. Utd. would have coped on that pitch, and playing against those direct tactics of Histons ? I seem to remember the pitch was even worse when Histon dumped Leeds out of the FA Cup earlier this season.
I wonder what Luton would have made of that ? I think someone needs to send them a DVD of today's match titled "welcome to the BSP". As Merse has said quite correctly many times, it takes a lot more than just football skills to get out of this league. Our guts and determination just about did it for us, but it was too close for comfort and not pleasant viewing !

I refer to my post for the the first game. Fear not Gulls fans because I just know we are going all the way. This is the season where we will cruise to League 2. It will culminate in a comfortable victory at Wembley. I have never felt so comfortable, I have good karma. I suppose in relative Torquay terms , that was quite a comfortable win - never lost our lead etc etc. Quite refreshing really

NOTHING! ;D ...completely right Merse, never a truer word spoken. Histon don't deserve plaudits.......a hefty fine for outright cheating would be more in order. Fallon's laughable interview afterwards was unbelievable. He had the audacity to say that their was only one team hoofing it long and that was.....Torquay , the mans delusional . I also thought the Ref was poor....such a shame that we didnt have the excellent Jock guy from the 1st leg, this one today gave Poke no protection at all, when he was buffeted at every set piece by one of the Histon bouncers, he gave them far too many cheap free kicks around our box......Fallon bemoaned that they didnt get much from the ref.....!!! Thankfully the tie was settled...in the end, on our excellent surface on Friday night.....football won in the end. Can you imagine how we would have felt if Histon had got a couple of lucky breaks........ .....no, neither can I
