The point I was trying to get across was the ridiculous assertion that we weren't entertaining, more to say just what do some fans expect in the way of entertainment? Please tell me Merse when the assertion was made, was it after we played good attractive football against Blackpool. NO Why, because we played football, a mixture of good general passing, some long balls and not one ball just hoofed up front in hope and nothing else. I think you will find that the so called assertion was being made after the first few games at the start of the season, you must remember them Merse, they generated many Buckle out posts and even one thread called, Relegation Battle?? and also polls asking do you have confidence in Paul BuckleNow why was that merse? I'll tell you because we were playing very poor and unentertaining football, thats why, it was right to say at that time that the team and football was not entertaining, because it simply was not. You went to Weymouth and came to the last home game and I know you have been to a few away games, but how many of the early season games did you watch? Its no good trying to make an argument and asking what do fans expect, well if you don't know,its good entertaining games like the one against Blackpool and not the rubbish dished up at the start of the season, that did not entertain anyone. |

 Don't get off your trolley Dave and READ carefully my posts of Saturday night and tonight. The assertion was STILL being made right up to lunch time on Saturday. Ridiculous and obviously with some sort of "agenda" being followed. I have only missed seeing the games at Wrexham and York, so am well acquainted with the performances on the road and am quite aware of the formative games at home this season whilst players were bedding in. The accusation of "not entertaining" goes back to his arrival here and that is rubbish. The first half of last season was full of goals, attacking football and a positive approach to every game. No, some people just cannot stop whingeing and whining. We've seen OUR club at or almost at the top of the BSP for a season and a half now discounting the very start of this season. Even after the ninth game of the season (away to Cambridge) I saw enough to convince me to put a decent bet on the club to win the League at 25/1. That bet may not come home, but I bet there isn't another club Burton fear more than us. People take issue with the fact that January is the month when existing contracted players who's agreements run out at the end of the season need to be in possession of a contract offer for next season or they are entitled to talk to other clubs during the window. Some players may not be in that possession because of the uncertainty of just what league we will be in next season. That's no reflection on them or their worth to the club, more of the difficulty of the club and management in looking forward with any certainty. People learn of other clubs interest in a couple of players, so what? This is just normal football life, yet those "Jonas" are just looking at it and revelling in their negativity and chipping away at the moral of the club. All I'm saying is for Christ's sake, enjoy OUR club for what it is................a small club doing well at the top of it's league and on a cup adventure. Why keep worrying about the "finer" points of the game, the ins and outs of who's happy and who's not and who speaks to who and who doesn't!

Merse your last line makes it clear where you are coming from and I fully agree with those views, I must admit I thought you were coming from a different angle and was just using the Blackpool game as a claim that anyone who has said we had not been entertaining just had to be wrong, because there has been games when we have not.
The ins and outs are really not our concern I agree, but forums are places of discussions and talking about the finer points is just fine in my book.

The reason for Nicholsons (and the other defenders) delivery seeming so much improved is due to having someone in the side who knows how to run the channels. Yes. I think Wroe and Green have a lot in common in that they are both exceptionally gifted players who looked to me as if they were used to getting away with doing half a job at their previous clubs - York and Oxford, the BSP's two biggest underachievers. The talk early season was of Buckle telling defenders to play hoofball, but defenders will hoof aimlessly if they have no other options available. Wroe used to stand around and expect the ball to find him, Green looked too easily dispirited. Both have had to find a new level of commitment and aggression to fit into the TUFC work ethic. With Wroe searching out space to receive a shorter ball and with Green running the channels tirelessly, our defenders now have options available to them - it makes them look far better and it makes the "tactics" look a lot better. |
