I thought that Yeoman was a midfielder??? Think Bucks must put his hand up tonight, 1 nil up and under the cosh for the whole second half, live on tv. Hmmm, think I'll put the young kid on (out of position) and see how it goes, no pressure?? He didnt really look ready for it, but the way the game was going, cant place any blame on him. Hope it doesnt ruin his confidence as it could set him back a bit. Shame as the reports from the youth team games have been really positive. Wouldnt be happy if I was Thompson.

I may be wrong, but I got the feeling that he wanted to give Hodges some part Of the action, as he wants to keep everyone happy. The game was there to come out and kill Off in the second half and we just let Oxford have all the play.
Three up with ten Min's to go, then fine bring on the 16 year old, but while there was little time to do much once they scored, we couldn't have done much anyway with what we had up front. I was late home and did not see who was on the bench, was Thompson on the bench? surly bringing him on to sit behind Sills would have been a better move.
If he was not on the bench then, we really should have left Green on, still you can't get them all correct, but you really can't afford to start throwing point away.

Thompson was warming up at half time, so I presumed that meant he was on the bench.
Is Roscoe injured?

Strange substitutions which took away our already struggling attacking play, Hodges for Stevens and Yeoman (his debut at 16 years old) for Green. Oxford got a deserved late equaliser similiar to our goal from a corner. I refer you to my previous post ......................"first rule of football"I would say Hodges for Stevens because he wanted to protect Nicholson more effectively and Yeoman as a direct swap for a tired Green (he didn't have either Benyon or Dsane) to play "up on the shoulder of their back line" and thus stop them pressing forward too much and swamping our midfield. Managers didn't lose either side the win tonight, one off "dozy" defending from re-starts did - as it so often does at this level - and THAT is down to players!

Very disappointed to throw away two points in the circumstances and would like to know the reasoning behind the first two substitutions.
Should have Mustapha for either Stevens or Carlisle
Then possibly Thompson for Green
Defo need Benyon back as we lacked threat on the pitch and on the bench.
Anyone catch Bucks post match report?

Not to sure On Roscoe, but when you are one up to really need to keep the strongest team put on the pitch, the changes did not do that and we just got deeper and deeper, its alright changing the team when It needs to be, but not just for the sake Of It, as I felt was the case tonight.

Merse you may not have had the view from your spot in front of the TV but Trainer spent nearly the entire second half with no one picking him up. Not just the opportunity for the goal. This game was there to be won but my impression without the benefit of TV coverage was that whilst Carlisle did sterling work in a defensive mode he was rarely given the opportunity to have a positive influence. Like you I am not as critical of the substitutions as some. Whilst Stevens worked his socks off, I too was of the opinion that we needed a more physical presence down the left hand side. But by bringing on Hodges we could not afford the central midfield to drift too deep, which they did. Yeoman is one of those subs that if it works makes you look a tactical genius, but against Oxford I would have kept with Thompson to fill in alongside Sills. It can be perceived from your posts that when things go well PB gets the credit and when they don't work out it's the players fault. I am afraid I don't buy that. Not least because these are certainly PB's players. I would be surprised if PB did not look back on that game and think that he might also have done a slightly better job. Still it's another point gained. We remain in touch and continue the unbeaten run. My 11 year old son is not too displeased as the Oxford equaliser gave him another win in our score prediction competition. Thats £19 he has taken off us knowledgeable adults so far this season!

Only got to see 2nd half due to work. Disappointing. Agree Thompson for Green would have made more sense.

Watched the game on Setanta and ended up quite depressed by the performance. First half was reasonable enough, playing at a good tempo and taking the game to Oxford. However Oxford were playing poorly and I felt we were too wasteful with possession. Well done to Robertson for gambling and scoring at close range from a corner. Second half we looked solid but we were no attacking threat at all, our attackers looking very isolated. Oxford seized their chance and Bevan made some outstanding saves, particularly the one tipping the ball at full stretch against the up-right. Strange substitutions which took away our already struggling attacking play, Hodges for Stevens and Yeoman (his debut at 16 years old) for Green. Oxford got a deserved late equaliser similiar to our goal from a corner. Oh dear, I think you've got a point on that other thread, Dave. We don't do ourselves justice on Setanta In my opinion, a very fair assessment. I was delighted with the first 30 minutes or so, but after that I thought we were generally second best, particularly in the second half. Nobody could argue that Oxford were not worth a draw. Had their goal come ten minutes earlier, I think we'd have struggled to cling on. We offered nothing up front throughout the second half. .......other than Nicholson's long throws. It was possibly the most predictable equaliser I have ever seen and with twenty minutes to go I was more or less resigned to it. I could understand Hodges coming on, but it was a gamble to bring Yeoman on................which failed. He made one intelligent run and earned a corner, but other than that was not the man to bring on when we badly needed someone to hold the ball up to give the defence a breather. His day will hopefully come however. Not a disaster and at least the unbeaten run continues........but it still feels like a defeat. I like the way Wroe has developed and thought the defence held firm in the face of considerable pressure. There were some great last ditch tackles and one particularly good save from the keeper. The team looked united. We could have easily lost this one, but after twenty minutes Oxford were there for the taking and we completely failed to capitalise on this. It was a classic Setanta performance from us. Who knows why, but about 90% of our appearances on TV have been exactly the same.

Roscoe unavailable through injury according to official site.
Game of two halves for sure, Oxford should definitely have had one penalty and probably two, so I'll take the point thank you very much.
Oxford were very mobile going forward but Woods and Robertson defended manfully until the equaliser, although some of their distribution, as well as Mansell's, was dreadful. For the last 30 minutes, neither Carlisle or Hodges was an attacking threat and that was our main problem - we cannot play counter-attack football very well, if at all.
MOTM - Close for me but I'd agree with the sponsors and give it to Nicky Wroe, who now looks to be a gem of a signing.
Shame for Yeoman to have to suffer this on his debut - I'd have preferred Thompson as well, and I thought hold up play, and making life tough for defenders was his speciality up front. I found the substitution baffling to say the least, but not the Hodges one. Oxford's manager just made a better one by bringing on the right winger whose free-kick led to the goal and negated Hodges'arrival.
Moving on....

Just had another look at their goal and to be fair, merse, Woods gets straight back to his position - committed and concentrated - for the corner and would not have been the player to go for that ball. Hodges' position :-
1 facing goal with the ball flashing in front of his face and him seemingly getting out of the way 2 - mindset suggestion of "own goal possible or thereabouts if I touch it" as opposed to "I'll attack it as I know where opposition players are" ; seems the main culprit. Robertson appears at full stretch as the ball just goes over him beforehand.

No-one picked Robertson up for our goal and no-one picked Traynor up for theirs..................just before the re-start Woods has his concentration interrupted by being spoken to by the ref (the ref's entitled to do that) and the next thing we know is that the marking is disorganised and the "spare"man has put the ball in our net. Rob, I wasn't "implicating" Woods for the Oxford goal, read my post again.................I recalled the order of events leading up to it. Indeed I would add that Woods made one magnificent block to deny Oxford a clear shot on an unprotected Bevan before that. With respect also to my view of the substitutions, I didn't profer an opinion as to whether or not the Yeomans one had worked; merely suggested why I thought he had gone for that one over a possible use of Thompson. It's easy to comment with hindsight on substitutions, so I try to avoid that and limit my comment to the situation at the time of the change and attempt to read into the manager's mind from that. I wouldn't pull Bucks up over bringing Green off, if any player is feeling the pace he is more likely to pull a hamstring in the closing stages and incur an injury that would render him unavailable for at least three weeks. He was already without strikers Benyon and Dsane last night and we have to travel within 40 hours of the final whistle for an important game this weekend. Had Yeomans got his toe to any ball in the six yard box and scored, we would not be having this conversation. Not a case of me "absolving" the manager of anything Andygulls, merely pointing out that BOTH goals came about through defensive slackness and a collective team failure to sort the marking out. The manager can't call a "timeout" if he sees such scenarios developing, so how can he be held culpable? I agree with your highlighting of Trainer's getting forward (that's the correct spelling!) and really last night's game was a reverse image of last season's at the Kassam. A fair result to a fiercely competed game and if we were offered four points out of six before last Saturday, that surely would have been our minimum target and in the circumstances; better to deny Stevenage equal returns than Oxford at this stage of the season. However, I suspect that Oxford will haul themselves up amongst the play off spots before too long although I also thought that once again Constable showed his game limitation to be one of aggression and agitation rather than anything sharper and such lack of vision and awareness of others as displayed by him last night would have been frustrating had he been playing for us as some on here in the close season had expressed a wish.

I still don't know if I should be happy or dissapointed with this result. We controlled the game in the first half, Oxford's passing was abysmal, (almost) everytime they played up front it was collected by one of our players. We were lucky with the goal, not the run but the tap in. Robertson almost missed the ball completely, but a goal is a goal and we deserved it.
Second half starts and I was hoping we could push on for the second goal and kill the game. Credit to Oxford, they got back into the game and deserved a point. We dropped too deep and couldn't counter properly. I was thinking about the Cambridge game, maybe we should have gone to 4-5-1 with Thompson on for Green.
In hindsight this was not the perfect game for Yeoman to make his debut? However it filled me with joy to see another young, local player make an appearance (and many more without a doubt) for our club. Something we haven't witnessed for far too long.
Thel final whistle approached and you could just feel an equaliser was coming. Defence was excellent throughout the game with some great last ditch tackles and some good saves from Bevan (sign him!), too bad we couldn't do it for 90 minutes...
7 games unbeaten, won 5 and drawn 2. Next up are Rushden (A), Ebbsfleet (A), Mansfield (H) and York (A). All 4 are tough games, 6 or 7 points out of these games would be decent and should keep us up with the rest.

Probably agree with most of the analysis above. A 1 - 1 draw was probably a fair result due to sitting back and inviting the pressure on.
In respect of the substitutions agreed that Stevens was not looking good defensively when taken off. Also both Sills and Green were tiring towards the end and not pressuring the defenders and in this respect having Benyon on the bench would have been a big plus.
Agree with the MoM decision. Wroe was everywhere, full of running and generally looked calm and assured on the ball.
Five points against Wrexham, Stevenage and Oxford is still not a bad return and our seven games unbeaten run also includes away games against Cambridge and Forest Green. In conclusion, a mediocre day at the office but we still look well set!

The other thing that needs mentioning is the fact that Darren Patterson obviously laid in to his players at half-time. First-half I cannot remember another opponent this season making so many basic passing errors...second half was a completely different story and for that 45 minutes they were the best team Torquay has faced at home.
Of course we didn't help things by repeatedly sitting back but as most seem to agree, a draw was a fair result for us at the end of the day - Oxford can probably feel a little aggrieved.
