The latest news of Weymouth F.C. is that they cannot even afford the 40k it would cost them to go into administration and so are facing financial meltdown which of course means that they will disappear from the Conference altogether as is faced too by Northwich Victoria who have become the latest club to be thrown out by the Conference Board. How ironic then that Gary Calder is on the so called "short list" to become the latest C.E. of the Conference......................that's the same Gary Calder who presided over the farcical goings on at The Wessex Stadium last season yet still found it possible to pay himself when all others about him had to go without income, the same Gary Calder who presided over Hornchurch when they went bust and the same Gary Calder who also oversaw a right financial mess at Billericay F.C. Some people always come up smelling of roses don't they!

........................... they will disappear from the Conference altogether as is faced too by Northwich Victoria who have become the latest club to be thrown out by the Conference Board. Northwich immediately appealed to the Football Association who have now ruled the Conference Board decision to be unreasonable and have instructed them to re-instate Vics albeit with a ten point deduction of points from next season's total as the penalty for going into administration during May 09.

Weymouth have had the time they need to pay £50.000 to stay alive exstended by one week and they have over three quarters of that amount so far.
All being well they will find the rest and can then continue as a football club. We had another thread that had great posts on it about the right and wrongs of Weymouth town, but as someone who goes there twice a week and speaks to many who are true fans and love their club, I really hope they get the money by the required deadline.
We should never forget how we nearly lost our club due to a dreamer, Weymouths problems were caused by those who wanted to make money out of land and property deals, the club was never really a concern to them.
I know Aldershot lost their town club and it came back against all odds and that club deserves so much credit, but so many other clubs that fall by the wayside, just disappear for ever, or plays at a very lower level.
I wonder what happened to the man form Torquay who had a heart attack just before he was due to buy the club? we know he never had the money anyway and was probably used to buy the out going chairman and owner a bit of time.
Merse may well feel due to past events they should just fold up, but I always try and look at things through a supporters eyes and no true fan would ever want to see the end of their club. They will accept it dropping into a lower division, or even going part time, but for it never to be there ever again must be every fans worst nightmare.
If it is saved then Weymouth people will need to try and support it better, but I suspect its not a lot different there really as it is in Torbay and if we had not gone up last season, then our gates would have been even lower than they were last season.
It is a spiral effect as a club then gets even less money to keep it going, has to make cutbacks, pay less wages and have weaker teams as a result. Under those circumstances any club runs the real risk of dropping down the football ladder even further and never be able to rise up again.

Sorry to bring this back to the top. As I am now catching up on all things in the South was saddened (in some ways) to see the possible winding up of Weymouth FC on the local news tonight. The news stated that the board "may" be winding the Club up in the next few days with debts of half a mill!!! This really confirms the fine line that all lower league clubs tread and when you think we played them last year and the gap that now exists between us. It makes me so grateful for last seasons efforts and our Wembley win.

No need to be sorry for bringing the thread back up again, all threads can be added to at any time no matter how old they may be.
What this really shows is the danger any football club can be in, when it is taken over by a person who did so only to make money out of a land deal, as was the case sadly.
He also made the people who took it over to try and save it, take out a big loan to give him his money back. I talk to Weymouth fans when I'm there on a Monday and Thursday morning and I know how upset they are at losing their club.
Thats maybe why I get a bit mad when the club knockers start posting on forums about our club, because if one man had not been got rid off and our club was not taken over by the board we now have, this would have been us for sure.

The good news is that a mystery consortium may buy the club out of administration.
The bad news is that mystery consortium is an anagram of "m.Curtis money story".
There is one massive advantage to leasing our ground from the council - freeholds can attract unpleasant characters.

There is one massive advantage to leasing our ground from the council - freeholds can attract unpleasant characters. But they can attract dreamers who believe they can get a prime seaside location for free, build a hotel complex with a stadium in it, make themselves into a millionaire and get the whole thing rolling with five shillings in their pocket.

Combine this story with the Rangers story and it just goes to show there are too many greedy bastards in the game and that`s before you even start talking about players and their agents!

Weymouth's current board have today rejected an attempt by discredited ex Chairman of Cambridge United George Rolls to grab control of the club by paying off their £140,000 debt. The same George Rolls who only got so "heavy handed" in his dealings with various managers because of his "love affair" with United. Wasn't it Rolls who a year ago was supposedly luring Weymouth's C.E. Gary Calder to The Shabby Stadium and who would have been back at the Wessex if Rolls had got his way this time? We can only guess can't we

Reading the post by Stuart McGowan he made it sound like Weymouth were not going to survive, while in Weymouth this morning I was talking to a few fans and said to them I was sorry their team looked like it was about to fold.
They said it was about to have a new owner and the story was in the local paper.
Below is the article
On course for club take-over 8:30am Saturday 21st November 2009
CHRIS Ryan’s consortium remains on course to meet its Monday lunchtime deadline to complete a take-over of Weymouth Football Club.
The local financier has promised to pump enough cash into the club to help it break even this season and dipped his hand into his own pocket to pay staff at least part of their wages this week – they had not received a penny from the club for six weeks.
Advisor Steve Beasant, who has been helping Ryan complete his due diligence, said a full statement will be made on Monday.
“We are on course to fulfil our due diligence and will make a full statement on Monday on our decision, which is to carry on and take the club on,” said Beasant.
The former property developer, who has made no secret of the fact that he was made bankrupt in the past, addressed a packed public meeting at the Wessex Stadium on Sunday night, outlining Ryan’s plans for the club.
The board of directors agreed to take those plans forward as long as the legal conditions were met by noon this coming Monday.
A statement, made by the club’s board earlier this week, read: “The board of Weymouth Football Club have agreed to pursue the offer made by Chris Ryan and Steve Beasant, subject to certain conditions being met in order to safeguard the club’s future.”

They said it was about to have a new owner and the story was in the local paper. Surprise surprise. The unveiling of the bankrupt property developer as the new saviour did not go to plan in another day of farce and intrigue in Weymouth. There are some very dark forces working behind the scenes - oh the joys of owning a freehold on some land. I feel desperately sorry for all the true supporters of this club who are constantly being shafted. I feel particularly sorry for the two supporters' reps (one Trust, one SC) on the board. They are in an impossible position. Thank God things never got to that stage at Torquay.

Surely someone needs stringing up over this! Here is the lattest update from their local newspaper. Weymouth Football Club’s future remained unclear last night after yet another dramatic day of twists and turns at the Wessex Stadium. Echosport understands that former Cambridge United chairman George Rolls had an offer accepted yesterday afternoon while the Chris Ryan and Steve Beasant bid was kicked into touch. However, it appears the position may have changed yet again after a proposed Press conference, arranged for 7.30pm last night, was called off less than an hour before it was due to start. “The board of directors have offered for me to take control of the club,” said Rolls. “Obviously a Press conference was called and then cancelled, and I’m waiting to see what the next move is. “As far as I’m concerned it’s been offered to me and the paperwork is being sorted out and will be signed if all directors are still agreeable.” He added: “Everyone knows what a circus act Weymouth Football Club has been over the last few weeks, so it’s no surprise to me.” Ian Winsor, who has resigned as a director of the club but remains as company secretary, said: “I felt I couldn’t be associated with Mr Beasant in particular so I felt I could no longer stay as a director. I was not present in any board meeting held yesterday but I did receive a call telling me that the board had accepted George Rolls’ offer and as company secretary I was requested to prepare the necessary paperwork.” Meanwhile, ex-chairman Malcolm Curtis is believed to have sent an email to club directors prior to yesterday’s midday deadline, which was set for Ryan’s takeover to be completed. In it he states that Ryan and Beasant do not have his support and should they take over the running of the club, he would demand immediate repayment of his £221,000 loan. Curtis appears to favour Rolls, who has negotiated terms of repayment with him, but insisted that liquidation should be given “full consideration” and could be the best option for the club’s creditors – of which he is one. When contacted by the Echo last night, Curtis said: “I understand it’s incredibly difficult for the board of Weymouth FC to make a decision and I wish them well in their endeavours.” Hennessy has been unavailable for comment since he called the Press conference at 4.15pm. Ryan did not wish to make a comment but hopes to clarify his position today, while the club itself is expected to release a statement this morning.

A further update has now been added.
11:51am Tuesday 24th November 2009
CHRIS Ryan is out of the running to take-over the ownership of Weymouth Football Club.
The proposed buyer, who has been working closely with Steve Beasant, believes that former Cambridge United chairman George Rolls will now assume control of the club.
A statement from Ryan said: "Yesterday the board of directors of Weymouth Football Club rejected our offer in favour of George Rolls.
"The directors placed certain conditions on our offer and Steve and I were unable to reach agreement with them.
"Consequently our offer was rejected in favour of George's and we can see no point in continuing negotiations."
