What a boring exhibition of tosh boxing, how the hell did the giant not pound the midget in to the canvas? Last time I stay up just for that, I was knackered by 10pm, a good nights sleep would have been more lively than watching that tosh!

I was unaware this fight was on until Ant came and told me he had paid for it and it was on around 10pm. The only two plus points for me where, one I did not have to wait up until 4am to watch it and two, I got to see 12 rounds, but they could never be described as 12 rounds of action.
Its the big problem I feel with pay per view boxing, you pay your money, sit up half the night and the fight could all be over in the first round and then you feel a bit ripped off.
I have not been following boxing much lately, ever since Amir Khan's contract with ITV ended and his fights went to pay per view, not that I think he has had that many lately.
I could not believe my eyes when I saw Valuev for the first time and felt it had to be a biggest mis match ever in boxing and looking at them both you do have to ask just how can the much smaller man ever expect to win the fight against such a giant of a man.
I got a bit fed up with the commentators, they constantly went on about how Hayes was so negative and how he needed to get more punches in. To be fair to Hayes trying not to get hit himself and using his speed to step in and get a punch or two landed, before quickly getting back out of range, was all he could really do.
Saying that I do feel he should have tried to get many more punches in and I thought he had not done enough to take the title from the champion, maybe it was the last round where he had Valuev stunned and looking like he could be put down on the floor, that won it for him.
Hayes had to have a tactic that would work to beat such a big man, me I would have just ran between his legs and jumped while passing through, to head butt his bollocks in the hope he might lower his head as that would be the only way I was ever going to land a punch on his jaw.

What a load of old tosh indeed Aussie - not the fight but your dislike for it! If anyone stumped up their hard earned to watch it expecting a tear up they need their heads examining. It was always going to be exactly the kind of fight it turned out being, Haye running and avoiding the Russian Shrek's size XXXXXXL mitts.
For someone with the limited experience of pro boxing (less than half the amount of fights Valuev had) he and the rest of the country should be proud of it's latest heavyweight world champion - and it's David Haye as well to at least give him his proper name!
I'll fully admit I can't stand the obnoxious git (and yes I have had the privilege of meeting him) for some of his antics, but to finally end the reign of the Black Sea Monster yesterday evening was a real surprise to many in the boxing world, even though the bookmakers made him favourite and got it spot on with their prediction that he would win it on points.
It was never going to be pretty since it would have been stupid on Haye's part to keep it a close in fight and mix it up - he could quite possibly (and literally) have had his head separated from his shoulders. The way he and his coach game-planned was perfect and he got the reward he deserves. Next up more than likely will be one of the Klitschko brothers, and that quite possibly could be a real tear up given the war of words that family has had with the Haye camp already. If that fight is anything like last night's then yes, by all means, complain, but David Haye deserves all the credit in the world for overcoming the physical odds to become world champion, and to deride his achievement as tosh and boring, in my view, shows a blinkered view of boxing.
Anyway, everyone should really have been watching Zenyatta the wonder filly at the Breeders' Cup - that really was an achievement beating the best colts in the world of racing....but before I bore everyone or upset Aussie any further, I'll go back into my corner!

I wish to echo those views of Capitalgull. Although I grew tired of the ever increasing hype, insult to the intelligence promotion of fights and lionisation of quite minor characters in the scheme of things. I used to be a regular at the boxing venues of London and I can tell you one thing that will never change in the sport is the bottom line that the two protagonists are putting their lives, livlihood and health on the line each and every time they climb into the ring. So to make it clear that one takes pleasure and indeed expects a fighter to carry out a game plan that would clearly lead him into serious injury is as sick as the sickos who I can never get out of my head from when I watched Oliver McCall edited & corrected Gerald McClellan ~ fighting for his life at The London Arena whilst a clearly disturbed Nigel Benn contemplated what he had just done to an opponent for the second time in his career but the animals in the crowd bayed for blood, laughed and derided the American. I haven't been to a boxing match since and have no wish to. I have met and spoken to broken old fighters like Michael Watson, Kirkland Laing and Rod Douglas; and chat often to Ian Nappa who's son plays football with mine, and I would never disrespect them to the extent that I'd admit to staying up to watch "a midget being pounded into the canvas" anyone who does wants to take a quiet reflection and analyse what they have posted.

Anthony must be about as tall as Dappa Napa. He's definitely the Danny Stevens of the boxing world - all 5ft 3ins of him!

There is nothing wrong with midget boxers you know, why even I was asked to join the boxing club while in the Navy at HMS Ganges at Shotley Gate near Ipswich. You should have seen me dance around that ring, a left jab here followed by a sweet uppercut and then a great combination of left and right hand jabs. Then some one rang a bell and this guy who had been standing in the corner and watching me, came over and starting hitting me, some people always want to spoil your fun when your having it don't they .

Dave, believe me, this guy makes you look like Nikolai Valuev ;D
And as to my earlier post, Haye of course has to make a mandatory defence against John Ruiz (cunningly known by pundits as Johnny Louise since he is a little bit soft) before he can think about taking on the Klitschko's, plus of course he has to sort out the broken hand he suffered against Valuev.

He won't have to reach as far up, what with Wladimir and Vitali being modest 6'6" and 6'7". I can't get too excited about it, as I would concur that he is a bit of an arse. But a British arse nonetheless. A 6'3" midget!!

Anthony's got a little way to go yet, but Kia Napa is the smallest and cheekiest little scrapper at training. Mind you mum's a little 'un too so Kia was always going to be amongst the smallest of kids but he makes up a lot for his lack of size with an incredibly competitive attitude and determination to come out on top in his one to one battles...................and the cheekiest of "street attitudes"!

Rubbish fight but thoroughly enjoyed last 5 rounds which i watched in Winstons in Paignton. Big cheer for the result and I'm proud of the lad.
He is quite articulate for a boxer and very likable.
hopefully he can now go on to beat the other ruskies and show us what he is really about.
He had to fight the freak in a certain way that never was going to be entertaining but effective

What a crock of bollox putting their lively hood on the line, for the money they get paid you have to be kidding! 49 punches thrown all match, it`s boxing where one bloke tries beat shit out of another bloke, that what boxing is or do you think it`s more like chess? A gentlemans game, it is NOT, it`s about trying to damage someone else so that you may win, end of story!

Oh and you didn`t upset me at all Andy, I expect things like that from you now, you`ll have to do better next time mate!

Sorry Aus, I don't understand a single word of your posting - I guess we must have been watching a different fight because it certainly went longer than a round, maybe you just fell asleep and started dreaming of you fighting Dave with your fork? Now that would have been a mismatch, something the fight on Saturday night certainly was not.
