Sounded like a great performance. Benyon taking his chance with a hat-trick. If Smith is injured, I guess Nicholson and Zebroski will be on the left hand side on Saturday. If not, Buckle has a nice selection headache on his hands with the forward players, contrasting nicely with where we were a couple of months ago. Rendell seems to be quietly going about scoring every time he plays as well. We are a team on the up. Lets keep this momentum going at Crewe on Saturday. Plenty of confidence around the place and good that some of what now makes up our fringe player contingent got a run out tonight, namely Thompson, Nicholson and late appearances for Stevens and Sills. Gulls 2 Seagulls 1....you heard it here first.

Wow......If its been 18 years since we scored 5, what about 9 goals none conceded? When was the last time we did that? I`m glad the goal machine that is Mr Benyon is proving me completely wrong at the moment. Any info on the smith substitution was it just to give Nicho a run out? Well done once again to the players, coaches & PB buster ....Its actually 10 goals scored without conceeding, counting the consolation goal at Accy Really impressive win and a big well done to Benyon for his 1st senior hat-trick, i've always been a bit sceptical about him being a starter for us.......as he hasn't always looked effective against the better defences we come up against but he's certainly come up with the goods tonight. No selection issues for Bucks though......i expect to see Zeb and Rendell back together for saturday, with an in form Benyon ready to come on later if we need him. This season improves by the week at the moment

Only four? Bah! Seriously a cracking result - confidence must now be sky-high. A win at Crewe would make you start to believe we can go on one of those runs. I'm particularly pleased that we managed to do this with Hargreaves on the bench. We can't expect him to keep playing twice a week and it is very encouraging to see that Thompson seems a very capable deputy. Also good to hear Bevan seemed to be more confident than when I have seen him this season.

All we need now is a match report from someone who was actually at the game.

Another superb result and performance by the sound of things and when PB's tactics work they work big time and I must admit hes doing it the correct way - always going for the win!

I know of at least one person in Thailand who will disagree. Well done PB and the lads. A cracking win. I'll be at Crewe on Saturday, if the snow doesn't make the roads a bit dicey!

This is another massive, massive boost to the club - the £27k will come in handy - not to mention the gate receipts for another "South Coast Humdinger"! However, I think that it goes well beyond the pure hard cash and immediately tangible benefits that this thrashing (I read a lot of hubris on their messageboard a few weeks ago salivating at round 3 when they drew us so it feels nice to say "thrashed"!!!) has brought us.
I notice that every single player that finished the match tonight other than Charnock (although yes, 3 other loanees started the match!) was with us in the BSP. I think that shows that although there wasn't the sufficient strength in the team without the additions, a slight augmentation (especially pace and acceleration) has really brought things along so well for us in the last few weeks. This again vindicates Bucks (as if it were needed with the way things are going) and the players that have stayed and also shows how vastly things improve with the right sprinkling of additions.
I'm trying to remind myself not to get too excited (just a little bit!) but to score 9 goals in two games like this is really encouraging and I believe that we will take this form forward. Like Dave, I believe that we have a real chance to put one over on Brighton after their win here two years ago. I wouldn't bet against us.

did not expect us to win by such a high score, I thought we might win by one goal so pleased for Elliot getting his first hat trick for the club. He came on in the game on Saturday and scored a good goal and to get three in this game will do him the power of good. He has always known where the goal is and what is pleasing is to see him get a reward for all the hard work he has put into his game when he has played.

Too tired to post a match report, as I need to turn in before getting an early train back to London tomorrow.
The whole team played well tonight, but these were the main points for me:
Benyon was superb tonight. A constant menace, harrying, chasing everything, setting up balls for others and some excellent finishing. Thoroughly deserved his hat-trick, but might consider himself unlucky to have not bagged a fourth. Won't get in the side ahead of Zebs though.
Thomson - pushed Benyon for MOTM, sliced Stockport up almost every time he got the ball. Ended up roaming into the middle of the park, and even swapping with Carlisle for a brief period in the second half. Played with the swagger of a man enjoying his football, but overruled by Nicho when attempting to take on corner duties!
Thompson – excellent performance. Good tackling, intelligent balls and some tricky play in the middle. Brings something different to the midfield from Hargreaves, but the weakness of the tonight’s opposition should be considered when touting him over Hargreaves for future games.
Bevan – good kicking, solid handling and one or two good saves. Not a huge amount of stuff for him to do though really.
Adam Smith - played well in the first half before limping off at HT and replaced by Nicholson, who also played well.
Stockport – a club and side in crisis. Whilst we didn’t give them an inch tonight, they were truly awful. A terrible performance from their keeper and a side who put on such a feeble show that you almost thought they never expected to get anything from the game before it started. Hatters fans will be in despair after seeing that.
Crowd - about 1,600, with about 100 Torquay fans swelled by about 30-50 Macclesfield fans. A strange atmosphere, but you have to feel sorry for Stockport’s fans who really will be wondering how much lower things are likely to get.

Some revealing stupidity/naivety/arrogance? on the Stockport County Official website, I quote: "Gary Ablett's cause wasn't helped by the absence of several key players. Carl Baker, Christian Ribeiro, Mayy McNeill, Michael Rose, Michael Raynes and Nicholas Bignall were all missing.
But the starting eleven looked good enough to beat an ordinary looking Gulls side that had managed just one one win on their travels in League 2 this season." Do you think they had just watched us at Accrington then and ignored other recent developments? Perhaps they go into all their (they've now lost seven on the trot) games with that attitude. Further research reveals a club in rapid meltdown under administration and as day follows night more than likely to plummet straight through into the Northern Premier League for the start of next season ~ IF they manage even to start, for the administrator hasn't even managed to pay himself one penny since taking over their affairs at the end of last April! Oh, and their last visit to Moss Rose? They managed to lose that one six nil on Boxing Day 2005! Every season there are a club or two in serious disintegration (God we should all still be familiar enough with the sense to sniff them out) and seemingly hell bent on crashing out of the Football League. I think we have just played this years two such clubs and whilst it is nice to hit nine goals in a matter of days without reply, those clubs and their states of decline MUST be taken into consideration before we get carried away. However, it's time at last to take pleasure in a little bit of smiling and enjoyment and look forward to the next game which will come all too quickly now at Crewe on Saturday. A more realistic test I think!

Stockport may have been poor in recent games but they gave an in-form Charlton side a real go last weekend.
Crewe will prove a real test for the team but their away form is better than their home form. They recently won at Chesterfield and Barnet but drew 0-0 at home against Lincoln City.

Two fantastic results for us in the last week with all the forwards scoring. However as mentioned Crewe will be a far different opposition. They are on a reasonable run of late and are one of the higher scorers in the league. Zola and Donaldson have pace and power so we will have to be guarded against that but they do concede a few too so could be an enjoyable game. The win last night was vital with the £27k really needed by the club after wasted trips/hotel stays of late. Will also go a bit towards Zebs fee. Now if we can just get by Brighton...
