I have put this thread up nice and early, as this is the game we have waited and prayed would happen. Our first game back in the football league, a place our history says we truly belong.
Not sure if the club is doing anything special for the match, I think a marching band and other entertainment should be considered, this game really should be one big party for all TUFC fans.
I would start with this team
Bevan Mansell Todd Robertson Nicholson Carlisle Thompson Wroe Stevens Rendell Benyon or Sills.
I think the first half display by these lads against Brighton, was one of the best I have seen for some time at Plainmoor, I know it was only a PSF, but the game was played in a very competitive fashion and it was a good side from a higher league we played.
I put Benyon or Sills as I would not want to be the manager who has to make the decision, Benyon many feel should start the game and he would be a bit unlucky if he did not. I have not seen enough of how Tim Sills and Rendell would play together and if the style of play would suit the two playing together. If we are going to get our wingers to put in good crosses into the box, then I know Tim is the best to get those headers in on goal.
The TFF will be having a good get together, sharing a meal, good chat and a few drinks before the game. I know I’m really looking forward to the whole day and meeting members like bbcgull, to name but one. Lest hope for a super size gate, our club and team deserve to see the place full in full recognition of what they have achieved for us in two short years.
PS nearly forgot, a win would make the day even more special.

Hopefully it will be a great day out, with a large and vocal crowd and we can return to the league with a bang as opposed to a whimper.
The defence is pretty well set. In midfield, the question remains whether Hargreaves will be ready and Stevens or Carayol. Very marginal but would initially go with Stevens myself due to his better end product and bring on Muzzy around the hour mark.
Up front, I would like to see Benyon start. On the train to Wembley I spoke to some Aldershot supporters describing league two as full of seven foot defenders and needing to get behind them. Watching him against Brighton I would suggest that he can do this and his time is NOW! I would initially play Sills just because he has played with Benyon more and offers a good outlet in a nervy first match.

rjd, I can understand why you would start Sills and Benyon together, I just feel if we play as we have been playing, then it might be better suited to have Rendell and Benyon start.
I love Chris Hargreaves, but would still go with Wroe and Thompson, they both will get stuck in, can pass the ball well and will have more energy and pace about them.

The sun is due to shine, and League football is about to return to Plainmoor. I’m quite looking forward to tomorrow!
The summer has dragged even more than usual – with no International tournament, and my only pre-season game being the reserve run-out at Tivvy, I’m about ready for it!
Decent opposition for the return too. I reckon Chesterfield will be up and around the Play-Offs at the end of the season, so it’s a good gauge for our own prospects (well, as much as you can ever tell from 1 game). It’ll be great to see some fans behind the goal at the Babbacombe end for the first time in 2 years as well. I just hope there are plenty in the home ends too – everyone connected to the club deserves a huge turn-out.
I imagine we’ll use our tried and trusted 4-4-2, with the only really contentious selections involving the new boys. I’d hope Bucks will give first bite of the cherry to the players that got us up, but Rendell and Charnock didn’t come here to sit on the bench so we will see.
I don’t think it’d be a great surprise to see Bucks opt for a 3-5-2 formation though. I don’t see us starting the season in gung-ho fashion, and I imagine Bucks’ first objective will be to make us tough to beat. Something along the lines of..
--------------------------Bevan -------------Robbo----Toddy----Charnock Manse--------------Greavsie-------------------Nicho -------------Carlisle-------------Wroe -----------------Sills-----------Benyon
And even more importantly, just one more day until we get to see this season’s most important fashion. Is yellow the new (old) orange…?

According to .com, Manse is injured which will likely mean Robbo filling in at right-back. Bit unfortunate that. For both of them.

Its going to be a long day for me at Plainmoor tomorrow. Will be there before 12pm to greet our members who are having the carvery. bbcgull will now not becoming, so there will be no picture of Dave R in the land of the giants I'm afraid I also expect to be in the Gulls nest after the game, so my report won't be up till much later in the evening. tufc01 is away and we won't have his report for this game, but I do hope we will get plenty of good match reports from those that will be at the game. Lets make our first league match day thread the best one to date on the TFF, we have had some great ones last season and if I get the news I'm hoping for, it might just be that much better.

Tough start to the season so a 1-0 win will do me. Wish i was on the Popside this afternoon.
Icing on the cake would be a 10-0 thrashing of the Scum and the Gaws losing to whoever it is they're playing. Should know i suppose but just can't be arsed about the cornish.
I'm envious of all of you able to go. Dunno if we'll have any commo on the net thro our pirates so might just head down the pub instead and annoy the lads with text messages! Good luck to the Boys and hoping for 3 points.

Scott Rendell scored after good work by Stevens and Wroe. Tqy now working harder to break down the Chesterfield play, so according to the .com commentary it's not such a 'flowing' game - but Tqy are more effective.
Mansell has played first half despite injury - but just jarred his back - in distress. Don't know if he'll return today.
1-0 half time. I'll take that - but watch out for Chesterfield second half.
Notts County - sven sven sven = 3.0 half time
Hope the carvery's going well! Teddgull

Sounds a bit like you at the bar, Longeaton Summarisers very surprised that Hargreaves just got man of the match - they thought Stevens should have got it for a while, but they've changed their mind since Bevan has 'been a rock' in the second half. Gritts is now on for Chesterfield Hodges on now for Stevens 'to keep it tight' - let's hope that's not famous last words. Good support for Stevens. 3 mins to go TeddGull
