You may well be right Joe but its maybe a little too early to write him off just yet. Make sure you give him you full support until it becomes evident to all that league football might be a bit too much for him. As PB said at the start of the season, he feels he owes it to the players who got us promotion to have a decent crack at Div 2 football. I'm sure there are contingency plans in place if those players don't make the step up. Hopefully if that day comes when PB has to be ruthless with the likes of Sills etc we won't be subjected to another thread lasting longer than War and Peace about another player who's received "heartless" treatment from PB or indeed win the player of the season. But are PB's statements just a euphamism for I can't get replacements? Sillsy has tried and failed in the league before with Hereford. He remains a valuable squad player, but he is definitely one of those "Conference players" with something to prove in Div 2. IMHO Nicholson and Stevens fall into the same category, as do Hargreaves' legs. Only time will tell. All of them had bad games at Dagenham. 3 of them then had excellent games on Tuesday night at Burton. Of Sills we'll see. But the last thing he needs is to have fans on his back or publicly voicing doubts. He suffered this at Hereford and subsequently failed. I think that seeing he's given absolutely everything for the club in the last couple of seasons he deserves to be afforded a bit more support.

Sills has been brilliant for us for 2 seasons. I hope he will continue to contribute, but he didn't play at Burton and that may be telling us something, albeit it is still too early yet to draw any firm conclusions. I just think Benyon adds a different (more mobile) option.

Benyon played at Burton because PB had a plan to use his pace to get in behind their back four and he played very well. I also thought he was brave playing Danny Stephens after the Dagenham game but he had a very good away game at Burton last season. I was very surprised to see him start but he was very good on Tuesday night. I guess thats why PB is a football manager and I have a thankless job in IT Support where nothing I do is appreciated!

I would like to see Benyon & Rendell start tomorrow, i think Elliot has earned the right to start again.
Hopefully Carlilse is fit as he is our most consistent player and one who's name must be among the first on the team sheet, however, as previously stated, i would also rather he missed tomorrow and was back next Saturday rather than risk an injury and miss 6 weeks.
After the Dagenham game i thought it Stevens had blown his chance and the improving Carayol might be given a run, however reports from the Burton game were all positive so i would think he would start, fade after half time and be replaced around the hour mark.
I would also like to see Mansell recalled to Right Back, whilst i appreciate the difficulty in changing a winning side, Robertson is not as good a Right Back as Manse so surely Manse gets the nod?
Having missed the Chesterfield game, but witnessing the Dagenham debacle, i am looking forward to tomorrows game and hopefully 3 points.

Mansell might have to play right midfield to replace Carlisle if he isn't fit to start.

Mansell might have to play right midfield to replace Carlisle if he isn't fit to start. Can't see that happening Chris, he only took over there when Carlisle got injured and it made sense as it gave Mansell a run out, without disturbing the back four. If Carlisle does not make it, then I would expect Muzzy will replace him and it will be a toss up between Todd or Robertson starting.

And as pointed out on the Ben Joyce thread I've just scanned it's all to do with horses for courses. Some players are more suited to certain situations and we, luckily, have a young manager who is learning to use his squad to the situations presented before him. Sometimes a 'Bolton' game will be needed and sometimes we can be West Ham. Does this make sense? At the end of the day I think that we are just a small seaside town club who will battle on to keep in the League and sometimes threaten something better. It could all go pear-shaped against Barnet and the short-termist mad-heads will go ape and blame all sorts of players/staff for the result and then get over-excited when we go and do a 'Burton'. Our club is doing mighty fine at the moment - enjoy it - enjoy watching them - groan at the bad times - but always know that the players and the staff are doing their all to get the Team to be the best position they can be! They're fighting all the way, they are well set up (in comparison to recent years) and they are damn well earning their money compared to other professionals in the game. Tim Sills will have his time in this league for us, be of no doubt of that - in two short years he has staked him claim to be a great servant of the club. Elliot is following his footsteps and doing his turn. Trust the Cllub, the Manager and the Players to do their all - if it goes 'tits-up' on occasion, accept it and know you're a Torquay fan - then you'll be a man my son! (to quote a famous poem).
For me if Sills gets 10 goals, Rendell 25 (i'm hoping!) and Benyon 15 I'll be one happy bunny - and you know why!? cos we'll still be in the League - we'll be safe and the Club won't have disappeared into Administration - cos that could happen and has happened to others! It's early in the season and it could all go wrong - we're in a strong position to deal with it - but always look on the bright side of life and be YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW!
Chill boys and girls - remember our past and keep looking to the future - could WE do any better!? Keep the Derek Dawkins spirit alive (think about it)!
I'll cope if we're 18th at the end of the season - would you? Bet you would!
Love you all, cheers, Scott.

it seems like the first game of season today. A combination of being away, a broken computer (iphone surfing is just not the same) and a general desire to forget all about footie in the summer means this is my first game.
Really looking forward to league football, it still doesn't seem real. So if you do see me today I need you all to pretend the season is kicking off today.
ps-my radio jinx is holding strong for this season. I listened to the daggers game but not burton. Don't tell me it is nonsense ; )

Hi jamie, if its only half as good as our first home game, you will have a ball, great game, everyone happy in the ground and not one moaner to be heard.
Don't forget to get your programme mate, it will be the quickest way to catch up with "The Views From The Forum"

Not a great deal of football hosted in London this weekend. QPR V Notts Forest? Too expensive. It's a toss up between Hayes and Yeading V York City or Staines Town V Welling. I learned this morning that David Woozely plays for Staines! It's a shame that Rushden is a little too far away to justify watching Mark Ellis and The Ghost play for Forest Green though.

I would heartily recommend going to Staines Chris...........great little ground and wonderful facilities. Hayes is a dustbin of a ground, a veritable "Ebbsfleet"; and although one where I have particularly unique memories of attending a game there (eh Crooky?) not one I would readily return to.

But it might be the last season a Mr Hayes could watch a football match in Hayes! It's supposed to be demolished soon. They are moving to The Warren, which is Yeading's former ground! Staines looks like a very nice little stadium. I'll decide nearer kick off!
