Never been so happy with not losing, thank god for that. What a game that was, my heart was in my throat at the end just hoping that we didn't concede a stupid goal and to be honest was glad when the whistle went. Completely in shock at the referee, what a complete joke he was, penalty that wasn't although I could not see in the melee, Buckle said it did not hit Robertsons hand. Blatant time wasting from Aldershot, can't blame them really if they could get away with it, and as for Sillsy, would like to see it on the telly again but it was a penalty, when he pulled his card out I thought it would be for their defender, I was completely flabbered when he sent Tim off. The team played well and their attitude was spot on, the team line up was what I wanted, apart from Benyon, I think we should start with Sills and Rendell and when Rendell came on it made a difference in my opinion. I hope Sillsys appeal goes well as it should, and he starts with these two on Saturday. you can't appeal a booking!! but we can start with those two on saturday as he will miss the southampton game

I didn't know that but surely if a yellow card is the wrong decision and leads to a red card you should be able to appeal it, at least he will start on Saturday. It will be the next league game he will miss though wont it not Southampton as it is a JP game?

This was without a doubt the best I have seen us play at home this season (given that Aldershot were an improvement upon Chesterfield as a team). It was a dramatic improvement on both the Barnet and Grimsby defeats - and probably better than the Bournemouth game as well - certainly there was more fight and solidity about our performance.
We saw Mansell return to the starting line-up and Robertson partnered Ellis in the middle at the expense of Todd. It certainly gave the team more balance having a right-back playing at right back.
Aldershot seemed to pack the midfield with Blackburn playing just in front of their defenders. He really helped break-up our attacks and helped launch their counter attacks. Aside from Aldershot hitting the bar and forcing a save out of Poke in the first half, it really was us in the driving seat - Carlisle, Stevens, Benyon and Sills looked threatening and although we could well have scored on a number of occaisions, but that feeling that we would get hit by a sucker punch was always there - it's what happens when you're struggling at the bottom of the league. Their centre-half Charles was very niggly all evening, although he was a very tough opponent. The rest of their team broke well with pace, but often their entire 11 were back defending for corners. They seemed to start the timewasting tactics in the first half - in the second half they displayed shocking gamesmanship at its very worst.
The ref had a very good game up until the second half, although to be honest I would have to see a replay of the penalty incident and the Sills sending-off. I think the abuse aimed towards him was more from frustration as we so clearly should have been winning, but his mangement of the timewasting was not good enough.
Sills will not be able to appeal as it is a second booking, not a straight red. It was shame as he seemed to play with more freedom and determination tonight and looked more like the Sills of old.
Ellis gave the sort of performance that makes it very difficult to drop him, another MOTM display in my opinion. He dominated Morgan in the air, kept holding the shape of the back four, was aggressive in the tackle and was never flustered on the ball. He was a big bonus tonight.
Aldershot rode their luck so often - their keeper made some top-class saves and he certainly earned his money, even if his kicking looked a little wayward and some of the saves had the touch of "hollywood" about them.
The supporters although low in numbers really kept behind the team all the way to the final whistle and as they trotted-off. There was never a time when I heard anyone getting on the backs of the players. For those that weren't there and heard Bucks and thought "here we go again - he's bigging-up a performance and bemoaning his luck" I can honestly say that he got it spot-on.
I felt encouraged at the display - it indictates that we might turn things around. It is a shame we couldn't get the win we so desperately need, but if we can build on tonight's performance against Bury then I still believe that we can do it.

I agree with everything you say except and I mean except in a hugely stupendous way about the Ref, what are you on? He had an absolute shocker, I ask the question " Is there a policy at the F.A. now to employ the disabled ( and in this instance I mean mentally retarded ) or do we have to line the officials pockets " because this guy was either given a brown envolope by Aldershot or he was recruited by Mencap! The reporters and camera men I spoke to were still in shock and seemed to have to get their heads around what they saw before reporting back and this was 20 mins after the game, these are the guys that had the close ups through their lenses of nearly everything through out the game and do you know what? Most of them are nuetrals and they were shocked at alot of descisions tonight, the match day Refs assesor walked away very unhappy, the players are pissed off, the manager did well not too lose it and the ball that they scrambled of the line actually crossed the, their pen was dubious to say the least, Tim was absolutlely perplexed and mortified that he got sent off when in FACT it was a pen! AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!! Thats better, sorry if I offended anyone but I had too let that out!

How do you equate the two red highlights? Very silly talk in my opinion! I was only trying to say that alan at game we are playing well but cant find the net Buckle has made his point tonight with not adding toddy to the squad, The ref has been a disgrace wth his decisions with what Alan has told me. I for one do not want to be bottom of the table and if buckle doesn't sort the squad out then he and we will be in trouble ? Why is Toddy not good enough tonight then? I know long way to go and we can still do it but not after the last 6 games am not happy! If you watch the goals we conceeded at Maccesfield I think you will get your answer. Of course he could always look past the players performance, stick with Todd and be accused of persisting with his mates? As soon as Buck decided to go with Ellis and Robbo at the back it was a case who gets the spot on the Bench and as Charnock offers us cover at both CB and LB positions I feel Bucks got this one right. The back 4 looked as solid as I have seen since the playoff final

Sitting in the family stand 10 yards from the Sills sending off I can confirm that as Sills turned around to chase what may or may not have been a lost cause, the defender most certainly did clip his heels and it was a stone wall penalty. Sills didn't even go down easily - it was a straight forward trip. Full marks to Tim for not nutting the referee. ;D His first yellow was for an unnecessary late challenge on the keeper though. A complete contrast in performance from the last home game against Grimsby and maybe we have turned the corner.

This was indeed a good performance and the least that we deserved was a point.
The overall Man of the Match was probably the Aldershot keeper (and that tends to prove something) but surely our Man of the Match was Mark Ellis - a magnificant performance against a very difficult opponent.
Aldershot were a good side and were probably better as a "unit" but we showed a lot of character and fighting spirit. Rendell was excellent when he came on and deserves to play more.
Yet again, we have been subjected to an abject performance from the Referee that bordered not only on incompetence but something much worse - but we can't go there!
So - onwards and upwards and, on this showing, the three points that we so desperately need should come on Saturday!
