Just got back and feel like I kicked every ball. I did have the pleasure of giving some "pies" a lift and the same story of how they are ready for world domination on the way to the match was not repeated on the journey home ;D Think everybody saw the game and those at home probably had the benefit of replays as well so no need for match report. Thoughts though: 1/ After the first half an hour and fearing the worst...every player came through in the end-defence really was solid (most of the time). Once again I think PB got it about right with no subs and letting the 11 battle till the end. I hope a few on this board noticed what Nico did today!! 2/ Also take my hat off to OUR drummer...really kept the atmos going. 3/ I know its another thread but I didnt realise until kick off that County had given 5,000 free tickets to students, schools, social clubs etc. Appeared a wasted exercise because crowd (according to locals) was normal level. 4/Delighted to see Wigstongull again and keep our succesful run going however he must stop having a cherry and umbrella in his pint ;D. However his 2-2 prediction came romping home...well done Brian!!
Lets hope this is the start of our run......roll on saturday and see you at Lincoln in a few weeks. Have a good week (I will now!!)

Thanks longeatongull, glad you enjoyed being at the match and I fully agree about the drummer, when he was last at plainmoor he was really great and played such a big part in creating a top atmosphere, also glad you spent some time with you mate who became so because of your membership on the TFF.

With a back 5 it gives him license to get forward

It aint gonna send Ladbrokes shares into free fall Not been on these boards long enough to gauge opinion on here but it was encouraging to see 2 of the current players deemed on other sites [glow=red,2,300] "not good enough for league 2 football"[/glow] contribute today. A special well done to Nicho & Sillsy

Like longeaton gull an amazing game which there is no need for a match report as many will have watched on Sky.
These are my own thoughts which might not be the same as others but watching live does give you a different perspextive on the game.
During the first half the linesman nearest us and the referee were appalling, Both the County goals should never have been, I don't know where the FA find them but let's hope we never come across them again.
I appreciate comments about how much County were on top and 'deserved' their lead. But that not distract us from two officials who were so biased they ought to have worn black and white shirts. I must admit they must have been spoken to at half time as they were decidedly fairer in the second half.
The defence played really well tonight against some very experienced players at this level, despite what we think about Hughes he was a handful.
The midfield does worry me at times as we were losing the ball too often and putting the defence under more pressure.
Both Sills and Benyon battled well, but we need a quality League 2 experienced player up front.
The second half was terrific I really did feel we could win this as County were very jittery in defence.
My man of the match goes to Poke for at least TWO world class saves. He also seems to shout at the defenders all the time.
We will make the 500 mile round trip next Saturday!
Good to talk with some old faces tonight and a special thank you to Chris Robertson's Mum !

Great photos as usual. Nice to see Janet Street-Porter "getting down with the yoof" by dancing along to the "Birdie Song" on her iPod (other MP3 players are available) as hughes earns his £3k per week!
Still, at least that was all smiles this time - not so when there the County player slammed the ball into the crowd in frustration hitting a female fan and required first-aid..... Great to see their 5000 tickets given away helped to bump-up the crowd to nearly 9,000 - good work guys!

Glad I wasn't the only one who thought that BOTH free kicks were soft to say the least and the ref seemed to be a homer (well more like Homer Simpson). A season League 2 pro is required as we have/are a little limp up front. Poke pulled off some world class saves, but for me its that man Ellis.

Admit it was difficult to decide between Ellis and Poke but I thought Poke just shaved it.
Interested to read your bit about the Haywain, it used to be my drinking hole when I lived in Chelston all those years ago! Ron used to be the landlord and a right miserable bloke he was. Happy days spent with a certain Jack Critchlow, now there's a name to conjure with.

Absolutely tremendous. I love a good shot of the crowd when something important's going on in the game. EDIT: McParland interview here: news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/notts_county/8302180.stm Could he sound any more like a man about to lose his job?!

Like others I won't post a match report, partly because most of you will have seen the game, but mostly because I can't write a decent match report for toffee ;D
Suffice to say though that until we scored the goal we were appalling and just couldn't cope with the pace at which County launched attack after attack (you can see they have some decent players!). However after we'd scored (against the run of play) it seemed to give the team some confidence, and they upped their game. Normally I don't think that would have been enough against the pace of the opposition, however it seemed to knock the stuffing out of them - perhaps the weight of expectation from board to supporters weighs heavy! Still, a solid defence, some fantastic goalkeeping and a host of created (but missed) chances from us could have seen us sneak it. From not being able to wait for the first half to end, I really didn't want the second half to finish!
Outside of the game, the County fans I spoke to were to notch, and despite being the only yellow-shirted chap in their social club before the game, I was made to feel very welcome and at one stage there was almost a queue of people waiting to shake me by the hand and congratualte me for travelling up (I did admit to only having come an hour or so up the motorway)
Disturbingly, and despite normal plans which would have taken me to Lincoln (birthday weekend), Shrewsbury (family party in Devon) and Port Vale (tickets to see Lily Allen in Birmingham) I may not get to see the boys play again until just before Christmas. Must get to Devon for a weekend of a home game to get my next 'fix'!!!

Slightly biased but what a really enjoyable game of football.
thank you Ellis, robertson & charnock for showing the bloated & disinterested premiersh**te excuses for defenders of Johnson Ferdinand & Cole how it should be done.
Yes the Torquay players have limitations Yes we lacked energy for 30 mins and gave county far too much room & time on the ball. but what a final 55 minutes.
At 0-2 I thought we were in for a hammering. Wroe & Thompson lacked the essential ingredients of a midfielder. Energy & desire for a battle.
Superb:
Poke - How much did county pay for Casper? He certainly played like a ghost. We had by far the most commanding keeper.
Ellis - If he could just put away those "sitters". enjoy his time with us while you can. If he carries on producing performances like that I can`t see him being here all season.
Bucks - for his half time. Ok he was helped by the goal, but what an impact he and the players had on the game. Credit must go to bucks and the players for stepping it up. This was no lucky point. I felt apart from the header that hit the post & pokes save we created the clearer chances in the final 55 mins.
Nicho - for his supply in the box, an excellent cross for Ellis to score.
On this showing we do not look relegation fodder. if we can keep everyone fit and available I feel mid table by christmas is achievable.
That must surely have answered a few critics that Bucks and the players are out of their depth.
Slightly puzzling
bucks use of subs or lack of it. difficult one to call as we got a great point and a disruption to the formation and understanding may have cost the game. But i thought the game was calling out for Rendell up front instead of Benyon. There were so many challenges in the air that Benyon lost which Rendell may have won. county clearly struggled with balls in the box so Carlisle may have been an option. so a positive change may have brought another 2 pts but may have cost the 1 we had. don`t want to appear critical as it was a great result in the circumstances.

The first 35-40mins we looked lost as we tried too work the new formation, when it clicked, wow what a difference! A few times after a draw I`ve felt like we actually won something, well I think we won back some pride, some spirit and some bottle! Well played everyone and well managed Paul, now lets go get `em and push our way up the league!

Well, I wasn't going to go but at 11am yesterday I felt that I should. I managed to get to Meadow Lane from West London in a little over two hours despite Hanger Lane gyratory being clogged, the approach to IKEA being rammed and some dozy pillock in a Mercedes Estate who had managed to wrap his car around a bus shelter on the approach to the M1. I also seemed to be speaking Finnish when I asked some guy in the petrol station at Leicester Forest East for "Cashback". So I got to Meadow Lane after passing the nearby Trent Bridge Cricket Ground which looked far more impressive than it did on my last visit to Nottingham back in 1995 and then past the City Ground where in the same year I was witness to a Forest v Man City match where the woeful city (Kinkladze excepted) managed to lose 3-0 to a Forest side which had Jason Lee and Andrea Silenzi up front. I parked for 3 quid in the cattle market and made my way down the road to the Jimmy Sirrel stand. 20 quid to get in was a bit steep. Considering the cash they have in reserve it’s a bit of a cheek to charge fans so much. Contrary to the Meadow Lane guide on the usually excellent www.footballgroundguide.com I found that the stewards were quite relaxed and very friendly. Apparently they'd had Port Vale there recently and they caused a bit of bother and some damage. Their fans, were reasonably vocal, housed to our right, and sang a few rousing songs, plus that song Liverpool nicked from Celtic and then included a few rallying cries of "You Pies!", to which I instantly thought "bugger off, I haven't eaten any for ages!". They got behind their side in a big way from kick off and soon looked dangerous. The referee set the tone after a couple of minutes by giving a foul on Lee Hughes after Hughes flung himself to the floor like he'd trodden on a mine. Both he and Luke Rodgers (another vile little toe-rag) looked dangerous and there were a few danger signs before Hughes stole in and had a free header to which Poke made an excellent reflex save. Poke had gone spare twice before as both attackers looked to exploit the space in between our three centre halves. We can argue about both their goals. The Linesman seemed not to be giving Notts County forwards offside unless the ball made it though to them. All he was doing was to keep not giving offside when they were and for us to half volley it clear straight back to them. The first goal was offside. There were two of them in an offside position. You have to say that Westcarr took his chance superbly though. Nothing Poke could do about that. I had a horrible sinking feeling. Usually when you play at a bigger club and they 1-0 up it becomes a little reminiscent of throwing Christians to the lions but I thought we weathered the storm quite well and started to create a couple of half chances, nothing clear-cut, though just enough to suggest that Schmeichel junior might be a bit iffy against crosses and their centre halves might be a bit on the ponderous side. The second goal came from a free kick which should never have been awarded. Lovely free kick mind you but it’s a bit annoying to think that Notts County needed any more help. After they scored we looked quite threatening and we deservedly pulled one back. As the half time whistle blew it was like that scene in Rocky 4 when Rocky Balboa had just managed to belt Ivan Drago one in the chops for the first time in the fight and realised he could hurt him! The second half there was only one team in it. Everybody stepped him their game. Thompson had a fine second half as did Hargreaves which in turn afforded Nicky Wroe a bit more time to run things a little bit more. The front two looked cohesive and the back 3 were solid with Charnock getting the measure of Hughes. Nicholson, barracked for being a "County reject" by the home fans, put in a string of dangerous free kicks, crosses and throw-ins into the box. Schmeichel junior flapped at everything, with Mark Ellis looking like he would score almost every time. He should have done from the cross of the match from Thompson. He headed wide. I groaned and wondered if we'd get a better chance. I needn't have worried. A few minutes later a Nicholson corner made Schmeichel flap again and Sills benefited from the mayhem caused by Ellis. Their fans then started to walk out in disgust. Buckle continued to gesture from the touchlines for all the big men to get in the box for any subsequent throw in or set piece. There was a brief moment or two down the other end. A cross cum shot hit the post and Poke saved well from a Hughes shot towards the end. So 2-2. Honours even. Would I have taken 2-2 before the game? Yes. 2-2 at half time? Probably yes. But at full time there was a slight tinge of disappointment that we didn't sneak a richly deserved winner. But its another step in right direction. If the boys keep playing with the effort show in the second half with our new formation I think we'll be moving up the table sooner rather than later. MOTM? I thought they were all splendid in the second half. I wouldn't argue if anyone said Mark Ellis deserved it, although Charnock and Thompson were also excellent. Fair play also to Sills for failing to react to intense provocation from that Scumbag Hughes who tried to get the yellow carded Sills sent off by falling to the ground and looking like he'd just been gang raped in the prison showers. Serving 3 years out of the 6 given to him by the judge doesn't seem right to me when causing death and serious injury by being drunk and then fleeing from the scene. Here's some photos. I haven't got the Pinnacle bloke's setup but here goes… Ratcliffe on Soar Power station. Remember the opening from Get Carter.
