Got it! 3- Kingsway, Bishop Auckland FC. 4- Belle Vue, Doncaster Rovers once had the main stand from it's former ground at The Intake in situ behind the goal here having moved it on rollers down the Bawtry Road!. 5- Queens Park, Chesterfield. Did the football club use this "out ground" of Derbyshire CCC?

Yep... Belle Vue, the end nearest the racecourse entrance and the terrace on top of which stood their old stand from the Intake Ground which came with them when they moved here in 1922. And a ground that Merse has discussed in some detail in my previous post on this derelict ground.
Only two to go...

Yep, Bishop Auckland's Kingsway is correct..
One to go... and the most local!

I meant 6, not 5 for Queens Park, but as you say "most local" I guess it's not that one. By the way, much has been made of the antiquity of the recently closed Saltergate home of Chesterfield FC but did you know that when they first played there in 1871 they played to "Sheffield Association" rules that allowed for fourteen a side and catching of the ball? Now to that no 6.................. Queens Park ,Paignton?

The full list:
1.. The Mount, Catford; Charlton Athletic.
2.. Manor Ground, Plumstead; Arsenal.
3.. Kingsway, Durham; Bishop Auckland.
4.. Belle Vue; Doncaster Rovers.
5.. Redheugh Park, Gateshead.
6.. Maer Park, Devon. Exmouth Town until 1964.
7.. Trent Bridge, Nottingham; Notts County & Notingham Forest.
8.. Wolverton, Milton Keynes; Railway Works Team, then Wolverton Town and local cycle and athletics events. *
9.. Invicta Ground, Plumstead, North Kent; Woolwich Arsenal (pre-league)
10.. Peel Park, Accrington; Accrington Stanley.
11.. Roker Park, Sunderland; the balcony facia now in the car park at The Stadium of Light.
* Re Wolverton: One of the great losses. Why, oh why were they allowed to demolish this ground, or even the historic grandstand, and build on it? With the promise of a replacement stand as a 'memorial' to go where the wonderful original was and to be used as a seated picnic area? What did they get, a plastic bus shelter with some pointy bits on the top. An absolute disgrace...

..........Sheffield Association" rules that allowed for fourteen a side and catching of the ball....... SHEFFIELD RULES ~ 18581~ The kick off from the middle must be a place kick 2~ Kick out must not be more than 25 yards out of goal 3~ A fair catch is a catch from any player provided the ball has not touched the ground or has not been thrown from touch and is entitled to a free kick 4~ Charging is fair in place of a place kick (with the exception of a kick off as soon as a player offers to kick) but he may always draw back unless he has already touched the ball with his foot 5~ Pushing with the hands is allowed but no hacking or tripping up is fair under any circumstances whatsoever 6~ No player maybe held or pulled over 7~ It is not lawful to take the ball off the ground (except in touch) for any purpose whatsoever 8~ The ball maybe pushed or hit with the hand, but holding the ball ecept in the case of a free kick is altogether disallowed 9~ A goal must be kicked, but not from touch nor nor by a free kick from a catch 10~ A ball in touch is dead, consequently the side that touches it down must must bring it to the edge of the touch and throw it straight out from touch 11~ Each player must provide himself with a red and dark blue flannelled cap, one colour must be worn by each side. So there you have it! ;D

I couldn't agree more Bud, the attitude towards old football buildings in this country is tantamount to scandal. There is a famous old ground near my home ( Tufnell Park FC) where all the fixtures and fittings were dismantled and carted away yet the ground remains in situ. That (in my opinion) is a bigger crime than when a ground disappears completely for redevelopment. One of my favourite spots is the old Edwardian stand that still sits on the former Lincoln Racecourse, even though a road separates it from the rest of the site. There is also the former stand of Manchester Racecourse being used as a reception building for the university campus that now uses the site beside the River Irwell and The Cliff (Manchester United's legendary former training ground and now Development Centre) and the old stand of Northampton Racecourse is still clearly recognisable in it's present day use as a cafeteria in the public park that now stands on the site.

Another great abandoned racecourse is Oswestry, one that has a history as colourful as any (worth Googling). Just off Offa's d**e it stands 1000 feet up on Common land and is often thought of as the peak between "the Kingdom and the Principality” as it overlooks England one side and Wales the other. There are still visible remains of the original stand & buildings and it is possible to walk the whole of the course which was last used in 1848. A small part of the main stand. The finishing straight How ridiculous is that? I can't put in an historical reference to Offa's d**e without the *** taking over!

Highbury Stadium is a much developed ground since your visit (assuming you took that pic) and there are extensive images of it on the Fleetwood Town website. To tell the truth I can barely remember my visit to Fleetwood but, delving into the programme box, I see it was for a game against Hyde United in September 1988 (my last game before moving from Lancashire to Somerset). It's not my picture but that's how I vaguely recall it - ramshackle and past its best. As you say - look at it now. Fleetwood are Moneybags Town at the moment - it's not the proceeds from Fisherman's Friends is it? - and last weekend's Non League Paper argued that the four Conference clubs with the "most to spend" are Crawley, Luton, Fleetwood and Grimsby (all conjecture of course).

6.. Maer Park, Devon. Exmouth Town until 1964. I was at the Maer recently looking at that structure - which appears to serve no purpose whatsoever at the Sea End of the ground - and wondering what the bloody hell it was there for! Now I know. I probably pass the site of Redheugh Park, Gateshead once-a-year and knew it was now one of those floodlit complexes. Didn't know Bishop Auckland but did look through the gates many years ago. Friends in Newcastle keep on talking about setting up a commune in Bishop when they retire - but I guess the hermitage at Warkworth would be more to my liking as a north east bolthole.

I was so disappointed to arrive at Bishop Auckland to find that the wonderful stand and terracing had disappeared and wasn't going to look like the picture in Groundtastic. As we turned into the gateway at the cricket ground end I let out a couple of expletives and held my head in my hands. Now this was not a good thing to do because I had travelled up to Sunderland the day before to see a client and Mrs E-to-be decided to come with me and make it a couple of days break 'as long as we don't go chasing bloody effing football grounds'. As if!?
So we had already 'taken a wrong turn' and ended up at the Stadium of Light, parked in a sports centre car park (Redheugh Park, Gateshead) so I could 'read the map properly and see where we had gone wrong', popped into Darlington to find a Sainsbury's to get water & provisions etc for the days journey, the car park of which 'just happened to overlook Feethams', and now it was obvious that I wasn't looking for 'a pub for lunch in Bishop Auckland that someone had recommended', but a football ground.
I thought at this point my cover had been blown. But no... She had already worked out that we had visited the sites of five ex-grounds on the journey up and back due to the fact that 'you keep getting out of the car at these stops and taking pictures', but had decided to say nothing and just enjoy the ride around the countryside.
What an understanding fiancee she must've been. Really, she must've been because she married me after all this!
