HMS Dryad for a couple of years and also Mercury and had a couple of ships based there. For some reason it was never called Portsmouth, or even Pompey, I've always known it as Dog Shit City, and I'm not even sure why?? Southsea, now thats a different kettle of fish. Joanna's (as it was then), the pier, pyramids..... Best thing about Pompey was the sports facilities which, at the time, were some of the best around.

I have only lived In two places, the first was Newquay and I have not long moved to Dawlish, so I can see more Of the gulls.
