We may well have only taken two points out of the last fifteen and some may feel that’s not the sort of form you need to take on Shrewsbury who have not lost at home so far this season. When we were at our best at the start of the season we were beating teams expected to be challenging near the top of the table so we have nothing to fear and I’m sure we can get back to winning ways and this is the sort of game where you feel our players will step up their game and show they are worthy to be in a play-off spot.
Ellis looks certain to start and that will mean Robertson going back to right back and I’m sure we will once again then be more solid at the back and won’t give away goals like we have in our last two games.
Bucks has indicated Wroe will be starting and I would like to see Carlisle start instead of Danny as I feel he has more to offer and he looked good as far as I was concerned when he came on against Aldershot.
Much has been said about Grits but he also played well when he came on as a sub and one thing I liked was his attitude when he came on as it was clear he was fired up and wanted to play his part to try and turn the result around. Therefore I would like to see him start with Benyon who is not strong enough to play the lone striker and needs someone like Grits to feed off up front.
Stevens and Kee can always come on later in the game and offer something different and my view is we need to take the game to Shrewsbury from the very start and be as attack minded as we can be.
Each and every game is winnable and this one is no different and a good result will play a big part in getting the confidence back and restore the fans hopes that this is going to be a good and enjoyable season

Was thinking of going to this one.
Having read the Travel Plan on the Shrewsbury web site it looks a bit of a nightmare to get to their new ground!!!
If anyone has been before and can offer advice I will be grateful.
Can't understand why clubs are allowed to build these out of town grounds with no facilities for away supporters.

I too had planned to go to this one~had even booked the hotel. Then I found out where the ground was and the distinct lack of parking so I cancelled it. Probably a good idea 'cause I think we're gonna get thumped!

Nothing to do with the recent run of results then register ~ where's that hotel you booked to stay in.................Colchester? The ground is two miles from the railway station, Plainmoor is further away from Torquay Station than that. I'm no fan of out of town grounds, and in the case of Shrewsbury I think the vacating of the riverside and town centre location of Gay Meadow and the local authority prevention of the club maximising that location's potential for ground development work scandalous; but I wouldn't even try to pretend that a ground being on the edge of such a small place as Shrewsbury was a realistic reason for cancelling my trip. Remember the terrace song: "Where were you when we were crap?" ~ perhaps they should now sing "where ARE you now we're crap?" ;D There are enterprising local pubs just a short walk from Greenhous Meadow who offer match day parking which is considerably redeemable at the bar, and this has become a feature at many such miserably located grounds. www.footballgroundguide.com/shrewsbury_town/Take advantage soon of a club we are visiting that has remained in the town centre with plenty of good pubs within walking distance of the ground and look forward to our match at Gillingham coming up shortly ~ Priestfield Stadium: a proper ground amongst the chimney pots!

I actually did book through the footballgroundguide merse. The problem being, all the distances shown in the guide are to the Gay Meadow stadium which threw me a bit. Parking seems to be the main problem expressed by the fans that posted on that site. Yes, our current form may have deterred me somewhat also. Another problem was the missus...she was happy when it was a few minutes walk to Gay Meadows, but the other one, no chance!

I actually did book through the footballgroundguide merse. The problem being, all the distances shown in the guide are to the Gay Meadow stadium which threw me a bit. Parking seems to be the main problem expressed by the fans that posted on that site. I must stress to anyone else reading this forum that the distances on the link I posted earlier are for the present ground however, and not Gay Meadow. Perhaps anyone with my own "sad" tendencies will do as I did once, and visit the site of a far older football venue in Shrewsbury than Gay Meadow, but one which sadly now shows no hint of it's former uses. That site is of the old Shrewsbury Racecourse which is now almost entirely covered by housing but can be located on ordnance survey maps ref: S150601200 north east of the town centre and including one "Racecourse Crescent" amongst it's roads. The first such racecourse in the town was located at Copthorne in the late 18th century and this one at Monkmoor opened in 1832 provided by the Earl Tankerville on his Whitehall estate and purchased from him for £10,000 by the Shrewsbury Racecourse Company in 1838. By the end of that century the company sadly went into liquidation and the land was sold for £12,000. It was first used for football in 1874 by Shropshire Wanderers and later Shrewsbury Town , and amazingly the Welsh FA used it to host their game with Ireland in 1890 when an estimated 3,000 people attended..............this being the second such ground in England utilised by the Welsh ~ The Alexandra Ground, Crewe being the other when Wales "hosted" England in 1888. The magnificent old grandstand can be viewed on the website of Bridgeman Art and then utilsing the search facility on that site by typing in "Shrewsbury Racecourse" www.bridgemanartondemand.comTypically for such venues of the age, the stand was too far from the pitch to render an optimum view, and so marquees and tents were erected around the playing area with only flat, standing areas available around the touchlines. The site was subsequently used for agricultural shows and it was not until the 1920s that it became absorbed into urban Shrewsbury. I always regarded Gay Meadow as my very favourite away trip what with it's beautiful setting on the banks of the Severn beneath the old hospital and adjoining Wakeman School with it's statue's head peeking invitingly over the wall behind the goal ready for a stray shot to knock it off! With those elegant church spires (which can also be seen in that illustration of the racecourse) in the backdrop too, it was a lovely setting. The neighbouring Telepost Club located on the other side of the railway embankment behind the main stand and it's pristine and floodlit bowling greens was always our first post of call and the way into it down a little back alley opposite the Shrewsbury Abbey and the Dun Cow public house simply atmospheric. Shrewsbury always demanded at least a Friday night to properly socialise before a Saturday game, Saturday for match day and another night out; and then Sunday in order to sleep off the beer and be in a fit state to drive home. On such things do marriages flounder and divorce lawyers get rich, but hey, who gives a shit!

What I hadn't realised was when they moved to the new ground, they also moved The Lion Hotel...which CLEARLY states, the distance from the ground is 0:1 kilometres. Strangely enough, the same distance it was from the old ground!

Probably a good idea 'cause I think we're gonna get thumped! Welcome to TFF register although I do not share your pessimism about the game tomorrow. I am expecting us to explode into October with a 2-0 win and to be in the top six at the end of the year. Although the points haven't been gained in September these things happen to all clubs and it hasn't been a complete disaster. After four straight wins we were due a defeat at Southend but after a poor start nearly snatched a point. Accrington are a tough team so a 0-0 draw will probably be seen as a good point later in the season. 0-0 away to Stevenage is creditable but according to all reports we were the better team and should have won. The Macclesfield 3-1 home reverese was abysmal and definitely a bad day at the office as described by some, but the 1-0 reverse to Aldershot a few days later was an undeserved defeat. The conditions were appalling. Very wet ground, rain throughout, and a strong wind constantly changing direction. It was never going to be a classic but for most of the game we were the better side, created loads of chances, and forced the Shots keeper into two brilliant saves. We did fade right at the end, but it is a shame that many then forget the performance in the previous 80 minutes. Even the Aldershot manager described Torquay as "magnificent". Ellis back I hope, and maybe a revitalised Wroe. Somebody strong alongside Benyon, maybe Gritton? .... and perhaps Nicholson taking the odd short throw in to surprise the opposition!! I'm sure Buckle will have sorted it by tomorrow and look forward to 6 points from Shrewsbury and Crewe before our next home game against Bury ;D

Was hoping for some as well if anyone can advise where best to park within 15 minutes walk of the ground if possible (by the way - how do they know if you're not a "home fan" when you go to park in their carpark?!!).
Gipsygull - you and Mrs G heading along to this one tomorrow? See you there for a dissection of the match and and analysis of the latest public sector reform!!

Gipsygull - you and Mrs G heading along to this one tomorrow? See you there for a dissection of the match and and analysis of the latest public sector reform!! I have just spoken to a guy I work with who lives in Shrewsbury and commutes on Mondays & Fridays. This is what he has told me, if it helps anyone; The 'Brooklands' is the nearest pub, just off the island past the ground. The food is not bad and you can park there for £5. 2 ways to get to Shrewsbury; On a Monday morning when its early he goes the M54 way, but on a Friday when M5/M6 join is really busy he goes Kidderminster way. M56: M5 to M6. Leave M6 at junction 10a onto M54 to the end. Take first left for shrewsbury or follow signs to park and ride. at next roundabout take 3rd exit Bridgenorth/Shrewsbury. Football ground is signposted. 'Be warned' there are traffic lights on the roundabout and it can sometimes get busy. Kidderminster:Take M5 to Junction 6 and take A449 to kidderminster SPEED CAMERA as you go up the hill ?? at 2nd roundabout take 3rd exit. At kiddie follow ring road signs (4 roundabouts all straight across) Note: the 2nd roundabout is a big one so its the 3rd exit. At the 5th roundabout take 3rd exit to Bridgenorth/Telford on A442 Follow signs to Shrewsbury. Football ground is signposted (in the same direction as Percy Throwers garden centre) !!!!!!! The 'Brooklands' is off the large roundabout. Apparently there are some nice pubs in the town centre which do decent food and a shopping centre for those of us that have members of the party who need some retail therapy before watching us play. I will be there with both my daughters so really easy to spot, I will be the good looking one in the middle ;D Pop over for a chat if you feel inclined. Other than that hope these directions help and maybe see you there to watch a decent game and a overdue 3 points. COYY

What a day it was yesterday weather wise and it sure was no fun driving in such monsoon conditions where you drive around a bend and have to grab that steering wheel ever so tight as you hit some very deep surface water. I was afraid Ants game would be called off and I’m sure some local games will be, but he tells me its still on and today the weather is much more pleasant and so I’m looking forward to my trip to Stoke Fleming.
Would be very grateful if someone could post up the team news when it’s announced and it seems we will have some members at today’s match and so I hope we will get some good match reports from the game.
I won’t be taking a radio with me to Ants game and just hope my phone can get a signal down there so I can check in on the forum at halftime. I do expect to get to listen to the end of the game on the way home and hope I see a great game myself and enjoy what I hear on the radio on my drive back to Paignton.
