I know you were referring to the crowd Aussie, that's why I asked the question. I checked the forums to see if there was any abuse on there that might possibly corroborate such behaviour in the ground..................there wasn't! Just the usual Muppet's then who need to vent their spleen in order to have a satisfaction of some sort for their entrance money. You can hear them on the commentaries making farmyard noises in the background following any set back during a game............to be honest, I think most pro's just take a disdainful approach towards this "Village Idiot" mentality; and if they don't ~ they should! I tend to be a very quiet spectator at football matches, especially ones where my son is playing; and I always implore him to ignore the crowd and listen only to his coach on the sidelines. He was asked to play in a very strangely (in my opinion) set up team pattern in a game that he particularly needed to look good in for his own benefit yesterday, and it did neither him in particular, nor the team in general; no favours whatsoever and the temptation is to scream and shout your frustration from the sidelines. But I couldn't and wouldn't "do that to him" although I hear it going on all the time with parents and other spectators thinking they can impart their influence on a game or a particular player. .................and as for screaming your frustration (for that is all it is) at individuals at the end of a game ~ that is utter stupidity!

I wasn't going but had a phone call from two disillusioned Argyle mates so made the journey down on a glorious day. I don't know where to start really - it was a pulsating game which ended up with a completely depressing result. I was dismayed when the referee came out. I remarked to my friends that we would be completely up against it. It started with a home game against Huddersfield some years ago when this goon grinned inanely all afternoon and awarded the visitors the game with some terrible decisions.. Since then I don't think I have ever seen him give Torquay anything. Won't do a full match report but if ever a match turned on one decision it was lemon headed Branstons ridiculous knocking over of Sodje for a gift of a penalty to let Bury back in a game that failing that they would have been out of. No wonder Buckle was indignant afterwards and Branston was hauled off at half time. He is turning into a liability. Shortly after the penalty award Ellis recieved the same treatment on the edge of the six yard box but of course the grinning idiot did not give a penalty. He compounded this by refusing a stonewaller for a foul on Benyon in the box. I am not sure what the guy has against us but there must be something. After going four three down we actually had our best period and spurred on by the magnificent Zebroski we deserved a draw at least and looked to have got one as livewire Benyon who gave Sodje a torrid time slammed home a close range equaliser only to be booked for handball - I didn't see it. Furious protests by Buckle towards the ref at full time at not suprisingly so. For all the action it was a dreadful result as we blew another two goal lead and we are hurtling down the league. Can't fault the manager really either. The key point for me is why we are now leaking so many goals. The answer I think lies with the managers decision to keep starting O'Kane and Stevens. It is like we are putting out a mens team and including two twelve year old schoolboys. Neither player won one challenge all afternoon. A prime example was their winner when Stevens failed to get in a tackle for a ball which was there to be one on the edge of our box.. Buckle is really hamstrung by the loss of Wroe, and whilst we are still paying him he sould be playing him (or at least putting him on the bench). We have a loanee (Oastler) who by all accounts is a midfield ball winner - if that the case you have got to wonder at three each why he did not get thrown on at O'Kanes expense. Similarly we have Gritton on loan who the manager clearly doesn't want. We have Wroe on his way and Senda who it appears will never be fit enough to play. Clearly we need one (or possibly two) players who actually can get in the team and make a difference. With the likes of Benyon,Zebroski and Ellis we have players who are as good as anything in this division if not better but it doesn't bear thinking about how we are going to cope if we lose these in January. We are now seven points off a relegation place and it is imperative that we beat the likes of Hereford and Barnet in up and coming matches.

That's a great summary Terry, which I find much more informative than repeated reports from different people on the same match. To me, reports are all well and good, but considered summaries of a performance so much more informative and illustrative. I take it you ALWAYS watch from the grandstand ~ that's fair enough and vindicates your view of the disallowing of Benyon's "goal" that would have brought the game to four all. View the footage on TV taken from the opposite side of the pitch and you will clearly see Benyon's hand ball, and the reason for his caution. Refereeing is all about angles, and had that ref managed to get himself on the same side of Benyon as you were added to having his lino on that side too and we could have been looking at the goal being allowed and all hell breaking loose from the visiting players! The same could apply to the two "stonewall" pens we are claiming. I don't know if the positioning of the ref and his assistants over those two can vindicate their decisions, but one always has to identify the positioning of the officials before making a noise over their interpretation of any incident..................it's how football "works" I'm afraid.

Merse it can also be said that the three of them, one should be in a position to see what`s going on in nearly all occasions, between them they should have it covered and clearly didn`t on many occasions yesterday, I appreciate the fact that football is a very complex game of many permutations and the ball can break in an unexpected way and catch officials out every now and again but not so many times in one game, this would suggest that they didn`t perform very well or do their jobs correctly!

The handball was given by the linesman on the grandstand side. Benyon seemed to be clear of Sodje so if he did handball it I'm not sure why he needed to. I was actually too busy celebrating the goal to be honest. My unbiased mates also didn't see the handball which just made it worse. The two Torquay shouts for penalties looked blatant though. To not get one of them was pretty unlucky. Trouble is that ref doesn't appear to peform very well in our direction whenever officiates in our matches. Given the referees decisions, we hit the post, their deflected goal and even their awful penalty which seemed to smack the post hard and then go in I think we deserved at least a point. I did not hear any barracking at all though - maybe it was on the other side of the pitch perhaps. Difficult to really criticise the manager or the players as we put in plenty of effort. I still think Branstons absolute stupidity cost us the game mind you.

For the first half 'Stonewall' penalty the linesman must have seen it or he was afraid to give it. His view wasn't blocked - a straight forward push. I'm normally at the match when the ref and his crew warm up - I will be popping into Specsavers before the next match and will ask them to view the chart to see if their mince pices are up to the job. Shame I left my pitchfork and lighted torch at home.

Shame I left my pitchfork and lighted torch at home. ....The 2 lads of ours involved in the penalty shouts are victims of their own honesty (some might say naivety ) Ellis was clearly shoved at the far post shortly after their pen, as he had got in front of his man and was about to have a free header...........he made little of it, it was obvious from the grandstand side so what the lino, who as you say had a perfect view was doing.....who knows? Likewise Benyon was past his man and clearly shoved, right in front of the ref, again he tried to stay on his feet and score........but the chance had gone once he'd lost his balance. Compare those two incidents to that of Sodjes' - who went down as if he had just been sniped from the pop side roof. Apart from getting the pens wrong for us, he let the game flow well and at least wasn't niggly like most we've had recently......

When i first looked at the score with about 30mins gone i was well delighted and thought that we wouldnt give that away. Then when i looked again Zeb had just scored our third and couldnt celebrate as they had score 3 too. When it came up 4-3 to them with 20mins left i knew that was it, we just dont do late goals this season. Rotherham managed to score two away at the end and they had a man sent off before that. many other last minute goals around bvut just knew that we wouldnt be one of them. The latest we have scored this season is the 78th minute, at Southend and its 71mins before that so at the moment if it gets to 20mins left and we need a goal, we are highly unlikely to get one. So you may as well leave just after 4.30 Now i have said that of course we will win at Gillingham 2-0 with goals in the 82nd and 88th mins ;D

Indicating that the squad is not strong enough to include a "bench" of whom at least one would "up the ante" if brought on to set the opposition additional problems when the game has become a little stretched and they might be showing signs of fatigue. Successfull sides are ones who can set additional problems when utilising subs, not merely sending them on for crisis management; and we are not at that level at the moment.

Shame I left my pitchfork and lighted torch at home. Maybe all home supporters should come suitably equipped, we may get a few more decisions. With the darker evenings just around the corner it would certainly create an atmosphere at Plainmoor. ;D

I guess some of those plonkers who flounced out in disgust and missed our goal on Saturday took too much notice of that stat!
