I've just got back to Kingsteignton after visiting my parents in Plainmoor. My temperature gauge in my car dropped as low as -8.5 degrees ! You have to admit the conditions have been severe this weekend. However for the benefit of those not in the Torbay area, today was a beautiful sunny day and not a cloud in the sky. Sadly it was fears of possible health and safety issues that prompted the match to be postponed. The trouble is our football club now has a big bill to pay to Rotherham and you have to feel sorry for those who travelled far to the match. I wish those health and safety issues would allow a bit more flexability and consider all the other costs and inconveniences to people. In the past this sort of situation would have gone ahead with a bit of improvisation here and there without any hitches. Whatever happened to the Dunkirk spirit, and all that ?

Whatever happened to the Dunkirk spirit, and all that ? Basically the Dunkerque spirit evolved from something far more important than a football game

I forgot to mention that our fans showed great spirit in rallying around to clear the pitch from snow yesterday and it shows the general public still have that in abundance. However with too much health and safety regulations and the fear of being sued by someone, there is little chance of being allowed to improvise with a bit of common sense to make things work when in a challeging position like yesterday. It's just frustrating and I wish common sense would prevail more often.

Absolutely right but unfortunately in this country with the Health and Safety Act and indeed others like the Human Rights Act common sense seems to have gone out of the window!

Lots of thanks and free hot food and drinks for those who offered their services for nothing. But like Aussie touched on, as soon as news filtered through that the police had issued their statement the whole place went as flat as a pancake. No doubt the club will ask the Police why they said what they did it and pass that information onto us.

It is obvious that the club did everything they could to get the game on. The pitch was playable and they were ready to meet their obligations. Now due to the decision of the jobsworth tosser whose cowardly, spineless action has cost the club and fans a great deal of money. The bill should be sent to those responsible. They should be held to account for their stupidity. Why should TUFC foot the bill?
Any lawyers on here think we have a case?

And another thing. Were Tescos, Sainsbury's, Trago Mills et al told to close their businesses for the day because the Police wouldn't be able to respond? Was Torquay town centre closed because it was considered too dangerous for shoppers? It seems to me that there is one rule for them and a different one for us. Get the reasons in writing from the idiot who made the decision and rip him a new one!!

That`s exactly how I felt when I walked away from the ground yesterday, pissed off doesn`t even scatch the surface! Then I get back and go on line to find on the Millers forum that they are blaming us and want us to foot the bill for their fans who travelled ( to55ers ), there was one intelligent soul on there though who realised it wasn`t down to us but the rest of `em can go **** themselves! Typical bloody northerners! I did cheer up this morning though when I went on livescore.com and checked the cricket results! ;D

Am I correct in thinking that the game was seriously called off because the police "wouldn't respond to emergency calls". I find that hard to believe. As for the Rotherham fans - well its a long way to come but did any of them read the forecast before travelling? It was bloody awful and the game was always going to be 50/50 at best. Travelling all this way was surely a gamble ?

Excellent post DTG - I think you mentioned somewhere else that that the police are supposed to serve the people. This was a question of priorities (as it always is) - the police need to decide at the time what is the most important call to attend to. Sometimes that will be rescuing Mrs Smith's cat and other times it will be a major fire.

Sometimes that will be rescuing Mrs Smith's cat and other times it will be a major fire. Even though it`s the public going to a football game they (the authorities) see it as a business of making money (the club) and therefore it is not as much a priority as the general public at large! They might have a point but it is still the general public going somewhere as it is like DTG stated `going to the supermarket`for example or X-mas shopping, it`s still the public supporting a business or business`s, I`m struggling to see how the authorities can seperate these business`s. Perhaps they should have closed the all the shops because resources were streched and just attended the football! I know there was a fire at the Palm Court and there was extra resources in Exeter because of the Wednesday fans, police wise, but surely they have to treat everyone evenly and not discriminate!

What a weekend!!! I dug my car out of a foot of snow on saturday morning and set off for Devon. games were dropping like flies but I'm ok because Dave said the game will be on The going was tough but I've driven in worse. BTW I do not have a four wheel drive. we reached Cullumpton Services and had a MacDonalds. it was then that they announced that the game was off. Oh well, i had plenty to do this weekend, so i carried on to torbay. Snow!!! that's not bl00dy snow!! i could not believe how little the bay had had and people were panicing All day sunday I spent rendering a wall and then went to The Kents for quiz in the evening. We finished second and then got drawn out to answer the question for the money. Mr F answered it correctly and we walked away with £53. Result Off to bed, no sign of snow yet. Thunder and lightning followed by hale woke me in the night but when I got up at 8.30 there wasn't much around. i pottered around town and when I got back to the flat, I read teletext which showed how bad it was elsewhere. We decided to leave early, but as Haldon Hill and Telegraph hill were closed we headed for the coastal road. teignmouth was fine, Dawlish was fine, Starcross getting worse and then the standstill in Kenton by Powerderham Castle. Well that was a waste of one and half hours and we were turned around because the road was now closed. We got back to Newton Abbot and grabbed a burger as the A380 was blocked by the Police. We gave in and headed back to the flat. i popped over to my Mum's to help my Dad move his beehive but he had gone out. While I was taking to my Mum, James sent me a text to say Telegraph Hill was now open. i dashed back to the flat and grabbed James. Off we went to attempt to get back to Wales. We left at 3.45pm. The roads were horrible but worse was the antics of the other drivers. We took it easy but I was shocked when we got on the Severn Bridge. the road was down to one lane and we were doing about 30 miles an hour. Out of no where a 4x4 towing a caravan passed me ploughing through the snowbound lane. Worse still, he was followed by two articulated lorries. All were doing at least 50. Mental or what. If they want to put themselves in danger, fine but what about the rest of us? I came off the M4 at Cardiff and then started heading up the Valley. My goodness, it was like a wasteland!! Cars abandoned all over the place. i got home in three and half hours, which wasn't bad. I did not even attempt to get into my street but left the car on the main road ready for work tomorrow. Hey, it's all good fun and I get to do it all again on Boxing Day ;D

So sorry I said the game would most defiantly be on Stu, but lets be honest it bloody well should never have been called off Sounds like you have had a day of it trying to get back home to wales and glad to hear my dear welsh family all made it back safely. I have to agree with you about some of the mad drivers out there who are showing no regard for other road users safety. I know its frustrating getting held up when you have work to do and customers to call on, but there is always another day, as long as your are still alive, or have not been arrested for dangerous driving. I was disappointed the game was called off, had a card for you as we could not post it as you did not put your address on ours. Plus it would have been a very rare thing to be on the popside with Ant, when was the last time? I was also looking forward to saying hello to all my friends I have made here on the TFF. Not to worry I will be at the game on Boxing day and so can catch up with everyone then.
