It looks like it is in an old quarry and one that is at sea level?I think Porland looks like a place on another planet, I do find the Wren (is this the correct name) prison a very interesting place, not that I have even been sent there, you understand.

The picture creates something of an illusion because the sea isn't visible. The top of the "wall" is over 400 feet above sea level. At its top there is level land for a few hundred yards before the drop away for the high cliffs of the eastern side of the island. It's all located to the south of the Verne Prison on Incline Road (off Grove Road). A fascinating area - Portland at its must characteristic and quite unlike anywhere else I know.

With our upcoming trip back to the Wessex i thought it was worth bumping this back up with some good posts. I would get Wessex if you haven't been as they are on the brink of Administaration.

It's twenty years since I first visited the Wessex Stadium and that season's Weymouth FC team picture shows a fair few Torquay United connections. By the time I visited, ex-Exeter keeper Mel Gwinnett - father of Raiff Gwinnett - was playing in goal.
