YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How the feck did we win that? Belief , hard work, good tactics, not so bad players who want to win , etc etc etc ;D Great result at a ground where we usually struggle. Poor Argyle get another stuffing . Will there be a club in Plymouth soon? Hereford, along with Crewe early season whipping boys. Crawley - ugh! cant stand the name cant stand the manager or his sidekick but they're having the start we all predicted. Sets it up well for Saturday when we will have to be at our best.

Listening to Ling on radio Devon, he wasn't happy with the performance as our passing was off and the defence was under a heck of a lot of pressure.
It has happened to us too many times in the last couple of seasons so I take an ugly three points, particularly coming on the end of three away games in a week.

Dont play well - and win I'll take that. Plenty of times before and in the future we will murder teams and lose. To not concede - well some parts of our game were pretty good then . Its a funny old game Exeter had 65% of possesion and still lose!! Shame... its what you do with it is what counts.

So does this mean that reports of Torquay passing our way to promotion playing total football have been over-egging the pudding just a little? Shame.

Just got in from the game.
Well, that was hard, didn't play well to be honest , although the defence was ok.
We didn't have much upfront today, but I thought the Shots had a well managed defence, Hahaha except for the goalie, what a horrendous error that was. Believe me that was a dinger, speculative shot by Manse and the guy let it through his hands, ooops!
I didn't think anyone played badly, but as a unit our passing wasn't there this evening. A handful of times we put a move together but not often.
Aldershot looked sharp, more precise, crisp passing, and some good crosses, but no end product. Bobby did well this evening and I would make him MOTM. Manse was ok too.
I thought our front pair were isolated, but that was probably due to the fact that Aldershot were sharp in midfield and basically won the battle there all the match.
We did battle hard though and grafted, and that is what won it, but I never for one moment thought we would last out, an equalizer looked inevitable to me.
The Toruqay fans once again turned out, 334 I think it was, well done to all, good singing lads, and a good turn out for a Tues eve at what is a really crap ground.
We will have to up our game considerably from this one against Crawley.

So does this mean that reports of Torquay passing our way to promotion playing total football have been over-egging the pudding just a little? Shame. There's a difference between winning ugly and winning despite being poor, though. From what I've heard, we weren't exactly hoofing it... Aldershot have been one of our bogie sides for a while and Guttridge always has us by the balls so no surprise that we were outrun in midfield. Also McGlashan was apparently a constant danger on the right which implies Nicho maybe couldn't live with him for pace, though the Aldershot fans have the same complaints as our fans do about Stevens - the two wingers don't cross. But 2 attempts on target out of 12 overall for them according to the Beeb sounds pretty wasteful, regardless of that

Very much after lord mayors show from our boys tonight. Three points is three points and it was great to keep a clean sheet, but many parts of our performance were below par.
First half was not too bad and fairly even. We never really troubled the keeper until a Mansell shot somehow went in - a horrendous error, but well done to Manse for getting the time on the edge of their box and hitting the target. A real gift.
Second half was poor to be honest. Second to the ball throughout midfield and attack. The defence stuck to their guns and all played well. Bobby looked very sound in goal. We did seem to be defending very deeply though. The forward line that performed so well on Saturday looked very one dimensional this evening. The ball was not sticking up front and once Danny went off we had no attacking outlet. Whilst he was on Danny was our most effective attacking outlet - that is not to say that everything came off though. Far from it.
We lost the midfield battle tonight and after bigging him up last week, Eunan's touch was not there tonight. Too often our midfield dwelt on the ball and our possession retention was terrible. The last 20 minutes it seemed like a defence v attack training game as our players seemed unable to clear their lines and we began to concede free kick after free kick in dangerous areas.
All very negative, but the team has a bit of steel about it and plenty of character. 7 points from 9 is about a good a start as many would have hoped for. Sets up the Crawley match nicely.

I thought Nico had Mcglashan in his pocket all night, myself. Stevens was the only creativity we had tonight and at the heart of all our best moves. O'Kane looked poor tonight. The goal was ridiculous. Young had made a very good save earlier on from a back heel flick by Howe after good build up play, but he made a Massimo Taibi style fumble for Manse's soft shot that was straight at him. Under siege from Aldershot with a succession of corners and free-kicks from the right and from pressure from their very good substitute on the left, Rodman, we held out and Aldershot rarely did anything bar huff and puff. Their best chance, gilt edged, was fluffed by the diving cheat Hylton late on.
Ratings thing:
Bobby 8 (assured and good on the high ball tonight) Oastler 6.5 (solid) Robbo 7 (dealt with all their rubbish) Saah 7 (composure mixed with foot in. I like him a lot) Nicholson 8 ( intelligence saw him snuff out Mcglashan piss and wind threat) Stevens 8 (only one showing attacking verve tonight and got properly stuck in to the defensive battle. Well timed substitution again, as he would've struggled continuosly on that Rodman with a continual backs to the wall. Rodman looked good and did Oastler and McPhee (5) a few times) O'Kane 4 (little went right for him tonight) Manse 7 (Manse) Morris 5.5 (Still getting fit and looked to be tiring, which caused extra pressure on the left side after the break) Howe 5.5 (Hard to say. Lovely back heel producing fine save in first half. Rarely had ball second half. Kee came on for him, but am not sure he got a touch either) Atieno 6 (Lively nuisance. Not sticking up there tonight, though)
Local bragging rights around my way, so happy with that. Good noise from the Yellow Army of 350 odd. Bring on the next set of villains on Saturday.

There's a difference between winning ugly and winning despite being poor, though. From what I've heard, we weren't exactly hoofing it... We haven't really been "hoofing it" since Bucks' first season. By the end, he was very much a disciple of the passing game. I wasn't at the game tonight, so I can't really comment on what we did or didn't do. Pragmatism is the key - play football when you can, but there is no shame in mixing it up when things don't go to plan.

Listening to the second half of that game "winning ugly" should mean "we have fluked three points because we were absolutely shit". Thats two big wins in four days though. Seemed that Mcphee came on and didn't touch the ball for twenty five minutes. Really sounded a dire peformance - I fear that our luck will run out bigstyle when Sheriff Evans and Deputy Dawg role into town and shaft us right up the arse bigstyle.
