I'm not sure what time this match is but if it follows last year's format then it will be in the afternoon!
If players that didn't start on Saturday play in this one then Rice, LRT, Ellis, Halpin, Stevens, Lathrope, Yeoman and Spear could be lining up for this one to keep their match fitness up. More importantly, Howe and Leadbitter may be available following injury and it would be great to see them play at least some part in this match. Some youth players will get a chance and it will be tough against this recently promoted championship side.
The league area has changed from last year so technically we are not the defending champions but it would be great to have a reserve side firing on all cylinders as many of these players will be called upon as the season progresses.

If it's evening then I think a big crowd would be great to ensure we win the league and show our appreciation for the efforts. I'm led to believe this is a decider .

Chelston - Thanks for that together with your lino adjudication! Rawpower - just to clarify, this is an opener and not a decider; unless you know something that I don't?

If it's evening then I think a big crowd would be great to ensure we win the league and show our appreciation for the efforts. I'm led to believe this is a decider . I have heard the same and it appears to be confirmed on the Brighton site which implies that this is the 2010/11 title decider with the 2011/12 league game rearranged for November 8. www.seagulls.co.uk/page/ReservesThe three regional sections of the Combination were won by Torquay (with 29 points), Brighton (28) and Ipswich (21). I believe that the two winners with the most points play off for the title. I really hope we go for this and bag the silverware. The Combination League has a great history. It was founded in 1915 to provide wartime football for London professional teams and changed to a reserve competition after the war. It would be good to have our name on the honours list alongside the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham. This is a bit of a case of history repeating itself. In 1927, we had the chance to put our name on the list of Southern League champions after we won the Western section. We had to play off against the Eastern winners - Brighton reserves. Unfortunately, the game was left until the following season on that occasion. By then we had been voted into the Football League and didn't fancy risking embarrassment by fielding our first team against the reserves of a fellow Three South team. Our reserves got thumped 4-0. Time for revenge!

Thanks Jon, would be good to see the club push this game a bit more though. I wonder what the criteria for selection is. i.e anyone who started on Saturday is ineligible?
A chance of silverware! Not only a chance of revenge for 1927 but some of the younger fans will remember the very recent FA Cup defeats as well! I suppose we have the home fixture as we accrued the most points last year.
COYY!

Enjoyed reading Jon's background and the history behind this fixture. It would be great to get some silverware for this. It's supposed to be wet and windy in South Devon tomorrow, but I can't think of any better way to spend a Tuesday evening than watching this fixture for less than the price of a pint. Alas, I cannot make it Brighton's reserves will be a formidable outfit if the strength of their current first team is anything to go by, but it's good to have home advantage.

A bit gutted that I couldn't make this one so looking forward to some match reports. Looks like Ling treated this very much as a reserve match! Still, good to see Leadbitter back for the first time in two months and maybe he will become in contention soon?

Good report on the club site. www.torquayunited.com/page/Reserves/0,,10445~2443193,00.html To be honest, we were totally outplayed by a very impressive Brighton team - who crisply passed the ball through the middle of us for fun. Our goal was totally against the run of play. Ricey was our man of the match and his efforts kept the score down. Formation watch : looked almost like a 4-1-4-1 to me. Kudi in front of the back four with Thompson to his right, Halpin to his left, Stevens wide right, Spear wide left and Yeoman mostly on his own up top. Our best spell was after May came on for Stevens and introduced a bit more bite to the midfield with Thompson pushing wide right. Leadbitter was given 45 minutes and was replaced by Nardiello at half time. Washburn replaced Ellis late in the game.

I went along to this as well and was impressed with the way Brighton played. Very quick passing, too quick for our midfield and putting pressure on the defence and keeping Rice very busy!
We had to change our formation to try and combat it and it worked more in the second half but at least one or two players were tried out at different positions. Halpin spent time in centre midfield which is a good thing. cant have our young ones only having experience in one position.
Leadbitter played the first half and looked ok but not match fit yet.
