Incredible, amazing, unbelievable. I'm running out of words to express my feelings about this set of players and management team. They just keep on surprising me with every match. Without doubt these guys can smell automatic promotion. Of course we should have known it would be 1-0 with Manse getting the winner! Lee Mansell fast becoming the new legendary folk hero of Plainmoor.. The only problem is, us lot will soon have to choose a POS. Its going to be near on impossible

Forgot to add . Our tenth 1-0 victory of the season and our seventeenth clean sheet now that tells a story that if you haven't got huge resources aka Swindon and Crawley Town there are other ways of achieving your goal.

With Crawley drawing, destiny is now offically in our hands for automatic promotion and that is a fact. I still believe that Swindon will be champions, Shrewsbury will be runners up. Now that 3rd spot is ours for the taking. Isnt it great that both Southend and Cheltenham are struggling abit. The absolute minimum has to be playoffs and boy does that sound good if not sounding arrogant. This has to be the best night for a gulls fan in many of years.

Talking of Crawley who in their right mind would have believed that just before Christmas we were 15 points adrift of Crawley, who were top and that we would now be six points ahead and in second spot? Quite incredible.

Quite incredible. Make that seven! - Made up 21 points on them, I would describe that as awesome but f***ing unbelievable is a much better description - imagine if someone had wrote that last Christmas! ;D

As you might expect from previous postings, mixed feelings on my part.
Firstly, congratulations to Mr Ling for having bought into the modern way of playing football and thus getting us into the top two with only ten games remaining. Scoring the first goal and then hanging on to that lead for dear life certainly seems to be working, thanks to a top class goalkeeper. Results are clearly everything, never mind what the performance looks like.
However, with promotion to League One now looking to be a distinct possibility, larger attendances will undoubtedly be required in order to fund the signing of better players. Does anyone really believe that dormant supporters will be attracted to come and watch game after game in which such defensive and negative tactics are employed ?

I see a return to the Leroy days of playing creative football on the ground with a spine of steel. A combination of boring defensive Macfarlane and creative footballing Leroy. the best of both worlds Thank-you Mr Ling (ex-cambridge manager )

Agreed Stewart but this is a team and manager that has its priorities right, namely earn the right to play your passing game first and be tight and give nothing away. Plenty of pretty good footballing sides in this division including Barnet and Dagenham who both looked pretty good going forward only to pay the price. Unfortunately we don't have the resources of Swindon Town etc yet have discovered another way to gain some success though I must admit that I keep thinking the bubble will burst only to be consistently proved wrong.

Mr Stewart, what more do you want. We are 2nd in the league and that is by merit. Man Utd win the league through cleansheets. If you ARE SO CRITICAL WHY DO YOU SUPPORT TORQUAY. If not continue following the laugh of the premership, we are Toquay and we are going up

Does anyone really believe that dormant supporters will be attracted to come and watch game after game in which such defensive and negative tactics are employed ? Ignoring your view that we are employing defensive and negative tactics (because I don't happen to agree with you) I'll concentrate on the point about needing to fund better players. I don't agree that we will undoubtedly have to resource better players by spending large amounts of money. If anything has been proved by our perfomances this season it is that organisation can mean lesser players giving more to the team effort than better players could. If anyone believes that we have to go and buy better players to survive in League 1 then they my only conclusion is that they haven't been paying attention to the football we have been playing this season. We need a skilful midfield creator so either go and spend wads of cash or grab Eunan O'Kane from the scrap-heap. We need a cultured midfield dead-ball specialist and passer so either go and spend wads of cash or grab Nathan Craig from the scrap-heap. My point isn't that these two players are the be-all and end-all of our success, but that very good players are available at very minimal cost due to supply exceeding demand. And Martin Ling has proved he can spot a gem. He built this team in a few weeks once he got the job, can you imagine what work he is currently doing on rebuilding the team for next season? Irrespective of what division we are in. It was only a few weeks ago that this forum was very concerned that four of our first team were going to be sold to League 1 or the Championship. As it happened only 1 went. Now there are some who are worried that the squad isn't good enough to survive in League 1 I believe that Martin Ling has a system that will work in League 1. I believe he knows exactly which players can't work that system and need to be replaced. And I believe he won't need to break the bank to replace them.

Whilst we haven't battered many teams (Wimbledon 4 - 0, springs to mind) the football in general has been pretty good with end to end stuff on most occasions.
Fair play to Merlin Ling and the magic he has performed this season.
