So once again we end up in the play offs or for my nine year old son in his fifth season supporting the gulls, a typical season.... Every game is a battle which can go either way at this stage and although Cheltenham faded after Christmas, they have won four of the last six although the final away win at Plymouth broke a run of six consecutive away defeats so how we do in the first leg may be crucial. Unlike us, Cheltenham knew they were in the play offs before the final match and were able to rest seven players. Top scorer is Duffy with 15 with Mohammed and Spencer both on 11. In addition they have loan strikers, Steve MacLean from Yeovil and Ben Burgess from Notts County to call upon. If that wasn't enough, the England under 19 squad have released loanee Luke Garbutt from Everton if he wishes to be called upon. It puts our small squad to shame but a tight knit squad does have its own advantages. As for us... on our day we can beat anyone in the division but also lose to anyone as well. Not the form to take into the Play Off's though Rob We need to improve our performance levels and the defence has got to be spot on. Rene has a groin strain explaining his early exit on Saturday (not to our detriment though) and hopefully will be fit. I think Ling will probably keep things tight and injuries barring, play the same XI and hope to nick one as at Cheltenham earlier this season. If we need to pull on back then 4-4-2 at Plainmoor could be used. I think an eight day gap will benefit us as the lads need to make one final effort.

Swindon TOWN Shrewsbury TOWN Crawley TOWN ==================== Play 0ff winners......TOWN Nah, at least two better in form teams than your lot and ours more than likely. Nothing to stop you keep harping on about and trying to convince yourself, though I should wait until you have a better picture after next Thursday .

Cheltenham 4 - 0 Torquay. Depends which team turn up and which half of the Hereford game they choose to play!

The game will come down to so many factors - fitness of key players (both mental and physical) and how any players that come-in adapt. I don't think form will play as much part as a regular season league game - we've been off form for a while now but I think there wasn't the crushing blow that there might have been if we had won the Crewe game and lost at Hereford.
I think that Ling might just really assess his options. We are entering a very special three match tournament where form and achievements to date are wiped-clean for all participants. I wouldn't be surprised if Jarvis and or Atieno got a start, some of the players looked leggy on Saturday and they both looked really sharp despite the lack of action.
I'm looking forward to to Sunday. I haven't seen us lose there for a proper match for over a decade (I've been to nearly all of them), I enjoy the pubs and aside from the area around the ground, Cheltenham is a nice town with very civil staff and supporters. Crewe or Southend would have been a real drag of a journey and those extra hours saved on the coach might even make the smallest of difference.
It will be too close to call and anything can happen - as we've seen over the the years in these two-legged affairs. Most of the players have the experience of the play-offs over the last few seasons and I don't think they will be phased by it at all.
See you next Thursday..... (I think it works better with 'Tuesday', but it still works).

Don't see a problem with this one at all:- Cheltenham Town 0 Torquay United 2; Torquay United 3 Cheltenham Town 1. Who is that knobber you seem to have invited on here from Cheltenham Rob? I thought the guy from Swindon Town who couldn't stay away in the week leading up to our game but we never saw again after we beat them had won the prize as the most ridiculous away supporter of the season. No it's you Cheltenham guy .... but don't be despondent about it as it really is quite a compliment having in mind the general quality of away supporters we attract here. Don't bother getting your ticket for Plainmoor, you will be too far behind by then ... if you have got it already though I hope you all have the good grace that Scarborough supporters had in a similar League 2 play off situation to join in the Mexican Wave when already 2-7 down on aggregate. Silly me. I read your previous posts. Why ever would I think that?

The Cheltenham fans certainly seem to be in confident mood ahead of this one. I just happen to have last Friday's Gloucestershire Echo here with me as a result of being in the area in advance of the Hereford game.
Page 35 features something called the 'Fan's Panel' and a number of questions are posed to someone called Max Hobbs.
Among the questions posed to Max was 'Which team would you prefer to play against in the play-off semi finals?'
To which Max replies 'I'd take either of Torquay or Crawley, who have both been indifferent, much like ourselves of late. I feel we could turn either of those two over'.
So no lack of bravado from the Cheltenham followers before this one. We'll see whether their team can live up to all this boastful talk.

The tie is ours because we are far the superior team, I suspect the tie will be truly over in the 1st leg with a 4+ goal RUBY advantage going into the game on Thursday. You are no match for us Gulls and thats the truth.

Who is that knobber you seem to have invited on here from Cheltenham Rob? Actually, thinking about it, I had to endure some pretty strong banter from a Cheltenham mate on my course at Bristol back in the early 90s, strongly fueled by our relegation from league 1 as it is known now. Cheltenham were non league then but he always used to delight in telling me how they were going to storm up the leagues and we were going to end up back in the conference! Pure fantasy of course.... That experience took me a long time to get over with Cheltenham up there with Exeter in the popularity stakes for a time. But the question is, is that you Nick C, come back to torment me again? ;D

The tie is ours because we are far the superior team, No doubt shown by the league table positions, and of course the 6 points you achieved against us in the league this season?
