It seems a recurring theme for the club to string TUST along and then fling them away in favour of the latest suitor flashing a bit of leg before it all falls through again.
This is a board - remember - who are meant to be supporters, denying fellow the supporters the opportunity to make a better fist of the job than they have.
I wonder if they have the interests of the club at heart or something else?

TUST now need to regroup and rethink their strategy. I think they should now consider how best to protect plainmoor from redevelopment. Also they have to seriously consider expanding their war chest, this proved to be their Achilles heel. TUST has around 400 members. They need those members to cough £250 each to boost their account by £100k. This will show that TUST and its members are serious.

I suggested exactly that around 18 months/2 years ago. My suggestion was for TUST to try to get 2000 members and then persuade them to give 250, which is less than a fiver a week, and if achieved would have raised half a mill. Didn't happen then and 2 years of procrastinating later, the opportunity has probably been lost. I know it looks as though at 5000 miles away, I am seemingly taking the easy option of sniping at TUST from afar. The truth is after 2 years of being a member I've seen no significant progress at all. While the board of the club continues to try to portray TUST as trouble-makers, you will only ever touch a relatively small section of the fanbase. Many will not contribute to a fund set up by a body that the club's directors are telling them is "unhelpful". That is why the strategy that has been worked on hard over the last 18 months has been to try to convince the board to positively promote a community share option in order to maximise its effectiveness - thereby assuring the club's future. The strategy has failed, but that does not mean it was the wrong strategy or that any other strategy could have worked. If we get our nice new owners piling in £500k per annum with no ulterior motive, everyone will be very pleased and will wonder what all the fuss was about. If we don't, I think we may look back on an opportunity missed. Why didn't we do anything? We tried. You can throw a lifebelt to a drowning man, but you can't force him to grab hold of it.

Ok Flo. You have formed a judgement on TUST. Not convinced about your assertion you don't know what they requested an apology about as it has been clearly spelled out in simple terms. Rob Stanley restated the area of disagreement at the forum and then seemingly agreed it was information TUST knew before the NDA anyway. Mystery solved. About 10 minutes in.
The thread has evolved into a "future of the Club" discussion to a large extent. No doubt the same for most fans, be they TUST members, season ticket holders, living abroad or other. That is the big issue. I don't know if you are able to view the Fans Forum video from the States, but it is worth a look if you can. There's even a fan shouting down another fan and another one having a joke with the chairman about other fans being keyboard w*nkers on the video - if fans judging other fans is your thing. Assuming it isn't, the Club put a lot of information out into the open (maybe not enough for some) which will or will not stand up to scrutiny in the very short timeframe they themselves stated at that meeting.

Latest email from TUST which explains how community ownership would work.-
Recently I have become aware that there is a lot of misunderstanding about community ownership and what it means, therefore I have taken this opportunity to try and remove some of this confusion. TUST is a Community Benefit Society established to represent the Community of TUFC Supporters (locals and exiles) in the first instance. Beyond that we have to recognise that TUFC Supporters are part of the larger Football Community and more importantly a fundamental part of the South Devon Community. So when we talk about Community Ownership and raising funds in this way, it is important to understand it is about reaching out to all 3 sources of potential funding and it is not just limited to the 1500 – 2000 passionate “regulars” who walk through the turnstiles at Plainmoor on a Saturday afternoon. TUST is against private ownership of TUFC - WRONG - TUST will support and work alongside private ownership that demonstrably has the club’s long term interests at heart. Community ownership has been promoted by TUST in the absence of appropriate private investors coming forward. Community ownership may be the only option available to fans wishing to see the club survive. TUST believes that community ownership is an easy solution to the club's current problems - WRONG - TUST acknowledges that community ownership will require a great deal of effort, beginning with organising the initial share offer and then 'business as usual' year in, year out. However if the new community owners of the club are passionate about their team, by working together, contributing time and money we can create a club that is run by the community for the community. More businesses may be prepared to sponsor a community-based club compared to a privately run club. Supporters become part of finding the solution to the problems, rather than disgruntled outsiders who have no say on how the club is run. TUST want to takeover the club - WRONG ... Community Ownership is exactly that ... owned by the community. The current TUST board are all desperate to run a football club - WRONG - The current TUST board and any new future community ownership board will be elected by the members and will be required to ensure members are communicated with on an open and regular basis, involving all of the community owners in major decisions. TUST do not have enough money in the bank - WRONG ... TUST have enough money to launch a community share issue ... as part of the legal process a separate bank account is created for the community share issue ... the important question is how much is in this account after the share issue? TUST do not have the skills to run a football club - CORRECT - but it is important to understand the difference between owning and running a football club. TUST has the skills to facilitate the launch of a community share issue and it is during the time it takes to run the share issue that suitably qualified people are recruited to take care of the day-to-day running of the club. Community ownership means the club will inevitably be relegated down the leagues - WRONG - The level that any community owned club can play will depend on the funding it can raise from members, businesses and through effective marketing of income opportunities by using all of the talents across the new owner members. Community owners will not be a select wealthier few hundred fans. Everybody has the opportunity to become an owner if we are confident that sufficient numbers of people will sign up, enabling community shares to be priced at an affordable level for as many people as possible. Community ownership can always happen quickly if things go wrong for the club in the next two months - WRONG - TUST recognises that it will need time to raise funding through a community share issue, which is why TUST agreed the deadline with the club of 31st October 2016 to make a decision on whether TUFC and TUST would work in partnership to secure the transfer of the club from the current board to community ownership, only 14 weeks before the GI debt is due. In our view timescales are now too short for community ownership to be achieved before the end of January 2017. There is no guarantee that a community share issue will raise enough money to save the club - CORRECT ... Ultimately it will be the supporters and the wider community to decide if they want TUFC to survive.
Do I think a community share would work for TUFC? The honest answer is yes I do. We are not reinventing the wheel and the number of community owned clubs in both the English and Scottish leagues is growing and the likes of Bath City FC and Lewes FC have both recently become community owned, despite having considerable lower attendances. I am constantly asked to put a figure on how much it would cost to become an owner and how many supporters would be needed to purchase shares, and whilst I am loathe to guess at something as important as this I offer the following calculation as way of an example; Assume the minimum cost for one community share is £100. Assume 3000 community shares are purchased. E.g. 3000 x £100 = £300,000 … although evidence from other share schemes show that people will buy more than one share. E.g. 1500 x £200 = £300,000 Irrespective of the amount of shares held by any one person (up to a maximum of £100,000) all shareholders only have ONE vote. Of course the big argument is what happens year 2 and beyond? Whilst there are no guarantees, typically a club at our level that is democratic, transparent and run sustainably by its owners has more chance of survival. The same question needs to be asked of private owners – unless of course they have an ever open chequebook and money to burn.
Kind Regards...
Michael

Dear fans,
We know believe that we can shed a lot of light on the future owners of TUFC; we believe that Pete Masters will take over TUFC using a front company and it will be achieved in the following way:
GI will get their shares of TUFC/Plainmoor Ltd in January 2017 (unless the board agrees it earlier) GI will then allow Pete Masters to have the shares along with a substantial sum for Truro because this site already has planning permission.
Pete Masters, GI and Dave Phillips are in a win-win situation which ever way it goes; the same cannot be said for the rest of the board.
We believe now is the time to support the TUST and raising money for the TUST is paramount. At some point in the future TUFC will be in the same position as it is now. Having researched community owned football clubs it is very clear that they are run far better if the community is fully involved. Lets be fair, we are all fans and we all want to secure the future of TUFC for our future generations.
Yours sincerely

This isn't exactly whistle-blowing. It is speculation. Probably roughly correct speculation all the same but nothing that hasn't already been mentioned on other sites.

Now TUST have launched a community share pre-issue at £100 a share we should see just how realistic community ownership is.

Now I know what you're thinking, 'Fools and their money' and all that, and only someone who had just sunk nine pints of cider while listening to The Wurzels could be ripe for persuading to make out a cheque for £100 payable to TUST. And it does seem for the most part that even TUST members have been stunned into silence by this call for cash. But let's not be too hasty in concluding that our Socialist friends have taken leave of their senses. I, for one, commend them on this brave move. Remembering what Rob wrote about 8 or 9 days ago, in his post stating that he wanted private ownership for the club: 'I'll happily say that I now want private ownership to take over at TUFC before 31st January and for GI to have no influence in this. I am not convinced a Board that created this set of circumstances has the wherewithal to get a takeover over the line without a fair slice of luck in that timeframe. I hope they succeed. They kept fans at a distance for a long time during their tenure and that potential rescue ship for this beleaguered Board sailed a couple of weeks back given the imminent GI deadline. Like it or not. The least they can now do is hand us over to someone who won't destroy us. I wish them luck. I really do'.
Many were sceptical that any such seaworthy ship could ever have been assembled, let alone that it would have had a crew capable of navigating it to our rescue. TUST's demand for exclusivity rights up until 31st January 2017, would have entailed the club telling all the other vessels that were currently steaming towards our rescue to turn around, return to port, and to tell their crews to disembark, as there'd be no chance to set sail again given the all or nothing clause the TUST lifeboat building company had negotiated for itself. Well now those vocal TUST members have to back up their claims by putting their money where their mouth has been over the last couple of months. Additionally they can prove that the interest within the wider community and abroad (Floridagull, don't forget to enclose a copy of photo I.D with your £100) really does exist and wasn't just a figment of their imaginations, by persuading everyone to get that cash coming in. If ever there was a time for Socialist Solidarity to back up the talk, it's now. OK, so you could get yourself a subscription to Guardian Weekly for about the same asking price ( link - Guardian Monthly subscription) but would that give you the same glow of satisfaction that standing shoulder to shoulder with your Red football friends would provide ? Let's get those cheques rolling in from all corners.....it's what Fidel would have wanted .
