Didn`t Arsenal win the league going all season undefeated? Just can`t understand how being undefeated can be construed as negative and worthy of relegation! Just joking James I see the maths of it and you are right just incredibly negative!

Going unbeaten through a season is usually pretty much a guarantee of winning the league, though not always - there was one Italian side in Serie A a while back who went unbeaten through the season and still finished 2nd
My point was more that we shouldn't get excited about being unbeaten since we're still in 11th place - that's more what we should be looking at right now. It's not been a brilliant start to the season, but I've seen worse - indeed, the year we got promoted from the Conference we had a terrible start
We've played 2 at home and 2 away. Of the 2 home matches, we won 1 and deserved to win the other. But we were outplayed in both away matches

Just taken a look at the past 30 or so posts and only a handful about the 'Vale game. Not sure if we actually had a match report.

JamesB (Brucie ??!!) we may have been "outplayed" in the two away games but look at the circumstances. Fleetwoods first league game and so obviously very much up for it and yesterday against a strong Port Vale team with a depleted side and we have come away from each game with a point. I would say thats a pretty good return.

Stu = Brucies dad. Made I laugh!!!!
As an earlier poster said, take 3 or 4 first-teamers out of pretty much any team in this division and the level of performance will drop. Established players wont come here (or anywhere at this level) to be a bench warmer (unless they have a history of injury problems like Downes and Easton and see it as a way back). That somewhat limits us on the quality and experience we can have on the bench or call into the 1st team due to injuries. From that perspective, points at Fleetwood and Vale are not too bad a return, though I feel people are rather over-inflating Fleetwood as a force in L2. We would have had 2 home wins (speculation I know but its my opinion!) as well, had it not been for unfortunate injuries against Cheltenham. Saturday will tell us more as the Gargs are probably one of the poorer squads in the division.

I take the point Junior Brucie (JamesB) makes when he claims we were outplayed in both away matches, and I expect that the possession statistics back up that claim.
However isn't a readiness to be 'outplayed' also something we're willing to conceed in order to keep things tight and not get beaten.
I remember Paul Tisdale speaking on the radio fairly recently when he said it was important his players remained disciplined and focused in an away game where they knew they wouldn't have much of the ball. Tisdale's overriding concern was that they maintained their defensive shape. The opposition could have the ball all afternoon as far as he was concerned as long as Exeter didn't leave a gap for them to get through on goal.
Not an exact comparison of course, but didn't Chelsea also refuse to engage Barcelona (at the Nou Camp) in more general play so that when Barcelona won possession Chelsea would pretty much always have their two banks of four behind the ball which Barca found very difficult to penetrate.
Had Chelsea played a more expansive game, committing more men upfield, the assumption seems to be that although they may well have had a greater share of the play they would also have conceeded more goals as a result.
For a small squad suffering with injuries and suspensions the unbeaten start to the season is quite acceptable. I'd prefer a big squad of quality players so that we could go anywhere and play the opposition off the park, but realistically with 2000+ gates I don't think that's going to happen.

Just taken a look at the past 30 or so posts and only a handful about the 'Vale game. Not sure if we actually had a match report. Rob does an excellent job writing the opening post on all our matchday threads. All the TFF can hope for after that is that some members who are able to attend games, spend a short time writing a match report and posting it up on the matchday thread. We do have some excellent reports put up for our home games and I’m sure at every away game there will be TFF members in attendance. I said from day one this forum belongs to its members and will only be as good as the members want to make it. The TFF was set up to be a completely different type of forum and it has always been the case and the reason we have so many different boards set up, you never know from day to day just what might appear on here to read. It is something that made the TFF unique and loved and something that has been copied elsewhere. It has been a shame of late such great interesting threads had dried up a bit, so we welcome their return with great glee. I have not been able to play the part on here I once did, but hope to be able to a bit more now. I still believe and have great faith in the TFF as it has always been run in a very open and honest way and has always done all in its power to rid the forum of personal abuse etc. I believe in it so much I’m just about to renew our own personal domain for the next five years and hope in time we start to see more posters again posting on the TFF. I was not at the game nor was I able to listen to it on the radio. Reading what I have and my own expectations of the result, I do feel we did well to get a draw and a result that does keep us unbeaten so far this season. The days are gone when we can have a very large squad and it has been rightly pointed out, players these days are not looking to sign for clubs just to end up as bench warmers. With some regular first teamers out of action it was good to see our manager have faith in one or two youth players and start with them. At this stage of the season I’m sure the fans would be happy with such action, but I do feel that might not be the case if we were having to rely on youth players to get us out of a relegation battle. I would rather we were undefeated so far than losing all our opening games. Yes too many draws can be costly over the entire season with the current system of three points for a win, but the first thing any team needs to learn is how not to lose matches. By all accounts we might well have been on the ropes for a good part of this game, but it was only a soft goal we gave away, than stopped us coming home with all three points. On the whole I think we should all be pleased with the start we have made to this season and I’m sure it is going to be another enjoyable one for all TUFC fans. Not good news for the forum when the club is run so well and things are good out on the pitch. The happy clappers remain happy and the darksiders do not post as they can’t find anything to complain about. I’ll take that any day even if it means the TFF will be quieter than I would like it to be.

I wouldn't worry about the lack of match reports from away games. After all, I've seen a figure that suggests there were only 139 of us present at Port Vale on Saturday. That may have included only a handful of people who contribute to this forum and possibly none of those who take the trouble to pen such detailed and insightful match reports after each home game. So be it.
And, maybe, some of us are into match reports more than others. I enjoy reading about football until the cows come home but - over the years - I've spent less time reading reports of games wherever or however they are presented. I skim but I don't read or devour in detail. I want the basic details of a game and a general impression. Nothing more, nothing less.
Maybe one of the beauties of home match reports is that they're often on the screen within an hour or so of the final whistle. Also, of course, a fair proportion of the readership has been at the game and can share and dispute the detail. The thread consequently grows. Away from home and many of you will have listened to local radio and perhaps made more of an effort to read the report on the official site. So, when people start to return home three or four hours after an away game, there might not be too much to add unless there are particularly fresh insights or specific criticism.
That's great if you've got something to say but, to be honest, when I got home on Saturday I really couldn't add much to what had been said already. Perhaps others felt the same. Or maybe the wrong buggers attend some of the more distant away games.

Not to be forgotten that James correctly called the slump back in April that saw us just miss out on promotion and well argued but differing views make any forum tick!

With Port Vale hitting 6 today at home to Rotherham and Pope knocking four of them in, shows what a top debut MacKennzie had!
