Sadly I discussed this with my Telford work colleagues who cannot understand how cream would go on first. Sensible person. What the f*** would somebody from Telford know about a Devon Cream Tea? Unfortunately we also have our very own fifth columnists! More cheerful thread than reading the depressing matchday stuff. Strange how when we had the old dilapidated cow shed, a rickety grandstand, open terracing at the Babbacombe end and half of the Popular side, we had quality on the pitch; now we have quality facilities, but a dilapidated bunch of serial under achievers on the pitch!

I never know whether what is written on here is tongue-in-cheek or genuine indignation.
For the record, I would have what many would consider an abomination, as my cream tea. Firstly I don't like tea so it would have to be coffee. Equally I don't like clotted cream with its metal tangy after-taste and nor do I like strawberry jam; my favourite being grape.
So there you have it. Coffee, grape jam, with whipped cream on top. A Floridevon cream tea. So delicious, I may have one later!

Grape Jam? What on earth? Thought they called it jelly anyway. I have to confess that even though I was Devon born and bred I don't think i've ever had a cream tea, Devon or otherwise, so I can't join a side. The ladies here have obviously given their view on the matter on the basis of practicality and occasional visits to the SW. I think you need to bring in somebody with real authority like Simon Mayo does on the radio.
Anyway, Grape Jam? I just dunno...

Yes, they do call it jelly, which means they have to call jelly 'jello'. I try not to use American terminology when talking to Brits. There's nothing worse than listening to some Brits who try to imitate the local accent; it just sounds ludicrous, especially if they're coming from a position of being a broad Yorkie or a Geordie. You have to use American terminology to US Americans, as the are so insular, they don't understand alternatives. 2 things have made me chuckle over the past few days. The first is that T-Mobile is now offering "Unlimited calling to Mexico and Canada from the U.S. for free." Because there are so many geography knowledge-challenged yanks, T-Mobile has to qualify that by saying, "That's 3 countries for the price of one." The other thing is outside one of the local banks there is a sign saying "We make local decisions here."

Horrified my Cornish in laws going cream first on a scone a few weeks back. That's not how they do it. I wouldn't say they ate it under protest, but they appreciated the Devon difference. Sort of.

Will post a photo later, but the front page of this week's Herald Express is proclaiming free mini cream tea - with the jam on FIRST. What more proof is required?

Am starting to think that Torbay since unitarising the political set up has become some sort of quirky nonentity republic (like San Marino & Monaco) and is not part of Devon at all!

That'd be cool; we could have our own international football team. And losing would be totally accepted as the norm!

Spotted outside a Devon cafe this afternoon - not too sure of the upper scone combo: What more proof is needed?

Worse than putting the cream on top is closing the scone. Philistines!

Is this a pucker photo or a Google image? Pucker photo taken in sunny Brixham a few weeks ago.
